if you were in the olympics, what sport would you participate in?
i have become an olympics fiend: i watch the games on primetime every night (even at work they show them on the big screen so i can make money and watch the olympics simultaneously-yeah!) and am just obsessed. so i got to thinking about what sports i'd hypothetically compete in if i were an olympian...
summer games: swimming and springboard diving. (did them in high school and college).
sports i'd like to try: canoeing, trampoline, equestrian, archery, synchronized swimming.
winter games: speed skating, luge, skeleton, ice dancing.
how about you?

^i don't see why you couldn't dive just for having big boobs. take some lessons just for fun.

Re: if you were in the olypics, what sport would you participate in?
racewalking! but only because it's the most bad-ass sport the olympics has.

Racewalking? Is that really a sport??? I'd do that. And I'd be a breaststroker.

I thought that was funny until I watched the clip. Now I think its foking hilarious. I'd still be a breaststroker though. Those breasts aren't going to stroke themselves.

I don't think they have it, but I would do this:

Just skip ahead to 50 seconds in.

Chinese Pole. I can do some of this stuff but these guys blow me away. I must do it like this before I die so I better get off my ass.

100 metre running, hurdles and the walking as they are things I am or was good at. I reckon that indoor cycling looks mad too. For my love of watching it I dont know what its called, lol. My dream would be gymnastics though. I love the Olympics, Im watching as much as I can!

Well I usually don't get past the first 15 seconds of video with guys doing pole tricks, it looks absurd to me. Knowing how hard this Chinese Pole stuff is means it doesn't look bad to me but extremely impressive, as opposed to male exotic dancing attempts with poles, which is an entirely different thing.
There's no music, no fucking thongs, no girlish swaying or grinding, just straight up phenomenal pole work by a dude. The Chinese Pole I've seen is basically a form of gymnastics, without the spandex tights traditional gymnasts wear, brought to you by Wheaties the Breakfast of Champions, etc.
The strength it takes to hold yourself fully extended at a 90 degree angle like that is phenomenal--on a level with olympic level gymnastics, make no mistake about it. The first time I saw a guy do that he was a gymnast just fucking around on a heating pipe--he'd never tried it on a pole in a club or whatever, it was amazing.
What does look amusing and pathetic to me are the vast majority of commercially oriented organized sports--groups of guys in multi-colored tights chasing inflated balls around, hitting them with sticks, into little nets, etc. But everyone usually wonders why I am laughing at it, and the shaving cream commercials taking up a third of the game shows, so I suppose I understand where you are coming from.
I can watch boxing, maybe a little hockey, that's it. Even the Olympic stuff--it's impressive sometimes but I lose patience rapidly. I'd rather be doing something than sitting around watching someone else.
But if I were to be in some sort of SW fantasy Olympics, it would be this or boxing, yeah.

Re: if you were in the olympics, what sport would you participate in?
I have never seen show jumping on TV, except very rare and very short clips. Now that I might be able to sit and watch. Do they have an Olympic category for this?
-
Re: if you were in the olympics, what sport would you participate in?
yup, they do, with team and individual medals, unfortunately they almost never show it except at the very end. they don't think it's popular enough. apparently ping pong is more interesting to people, lol.
I've had to watch all the equestrian stuff online so far. thank god for the video stuff this year.

Swimming. With the men *drool* LOL

Re: if you were in the olympics, what sport would you participate in?
It's strange, how certain sports are universally acclaimed, often patently absurd if say, viewed by aliens, and others requiring equal or greater strength, skill and dexterity are seen as sideshows or not as sports at all.
I don't like the contrived aspects of a lot of sports, it ruins it somehow for me. Like the lanes in the pools and all the display boards and buzzers and judges and commercial breaks. To see guys swimming competitively out in the ocean would be a lot more interesting to me.
Oh but I did find a Chinese Pole video that did look sort of stupid, complete with weird music and guys in multicolored tights, lol! I actually hadn't seen that much of it before this thread made me look for more, but what I saw back a few years ago made me want to try it--especially the full 90 degree extension.

Curling, until drinking beer while playing darts becomes a sport.

Re: if you were in the olympics, what sport would you participate in?
beach volleyball or 100m sprint

Re: if you were in the olympics, what sport would you participate in?
Wrestling! I was actually pretty good at it. The girl who won gold the other day took it up same age as me. I regret not going to a university where I could have pursued it, but with that level of competition, it takes up your whole life. I miss being so muscley and fucking badass though. When I was competing, I'd try my take-downs on everyone I knew. You feel so POWERFUL. lol
Or dressage. Actually, at this point, I have a better shot at dressage. By some miracle beyond miracles, that could still happen, were I more committed to it. The glory of equestrian- you can do it til you're very old. Their are equestrian olympians right now who are in their sixties!
