quote of the new week - 'I think I have a much higher IQ than you do'
from Obama's newly selected VP candidate Joe Biden ...
(snip)"a snippet of footage captured by C-Span in which the Delaware senator, in response to a question about where he went to law school and what sort of grades he received, delivered this classic line: "I think I have a much higher IQ than you do."
While any human being -- especially a candidate for president who is constantly being poked and prodded -- can be forgiven a momentary flash of temper, Biden's detractors point to that incident as evidence that the senator thinks he is the bee's knees and doesn't care who knows it."(snip)

^^wow, that didn't take you long.
Re: quote of the new week - 'I think I have a much higher IQ than you do'
All that material. Should be instant.
That isn't the dinner bell......... It's the death knell.
Re: quote of the new week - 'I think I have a much higher IQ than you do'
^^^ there are many ... not including mainstream media of course ... who are of the opinion that Obama's choice of Joe Biden constitutes a total sellout of whatever unique opportunity for 'change' Obama offered early in his campaign. Biden has been in congress longer than Obama has been driving. Biden's voting record is less liberal than Obama's, but then again EVERY senator's voting record is less liberal than Obama's. Biden of course is also rich, white and male, a classic democrat 'nanny state' advocate, a bit of a 'hawk' in regard to defense, and potentially one heartbeat away from being the 45th president if Obama is elected the 44th.
The 'tin foil hat' crowd would probably tell you that Biden constitutes a candidate that the Democratic beltway establishment would vastly prefer as president ... but who is unelectable as president due to the existance of blocks of democratic voter groups who would never support him ( black voters, antiwar activists, etc.). Thus the next best option might be to get Biden in a position of being one heartbeat away from the presidency ........................ anyone not familiar with this 'tidbit' of one heartbeat away presidential history might want to Google William Henry Harrison and John Tyler ! If Obama should suddenly come down with a case of 'pneumonia' immediately after taking office, this would put Biden in the 'big chair' he could not otherwise hope to get elected to. Nonetheless, he WOULD be the president, and thus be able to follow vastly different policities than those his immediate predecessor was elected on - just as Tyler did (i.e. the attempted legalization of slavery throughout the USA, the annexation of Texas / Mexican War etc.)
But your point about a 'death knell' can obviously be interpreted in a different way as well ... i.e. death to the chances of an Obama/Biden election victory. A very recent poll shows that many Democratic voters, who already shunned Biden in 1988 as well as early in this campaign, may drop their support for Obama now that Biden is attached ...
(snip)"The young Senator from Illinois has made his first major political gaffe. Selecting Joe Biden as his running mate is a decision that could cost him this election. With two failed presidential campaigns under his belt, Biden brings nothing to the ticket. America decided long ago that Biden isn't fit to be President. And now Obama places him one heart beat away from the job.
According to a poll taken this morning and announced on GMA, 75% of likely democratic voters said Biden will have no effect on their vote; 13% are more likely to vote; and 10% are less likely to vote. That represents a possible 10% defection among likely democratic voters. "(snip)
^^^ this claim is tenuous, but there is no doubt that Obama's choice of Biden has left ardent Clinton supporters disappointed ^^^
(snip)"Obama is running on Change, and most of his positions remain unknown. Dubbed the "Man of Mystery" by Bill O'Reilly, perhaps the best insight into understanding where Obama stands on the issues isn't from the young Senator at all, but from his choice that promises to "fundamentally change" policies in Washington.
Here is a snapshot of where Joe Biden stands on the issues;
- Voted YES: To Authorize the use of military force post 9/11. Voted for the Iraq war.
- Voted NO: To protect United States military personnel and other elected appointed officials of the United States Government against criminal prosecution by an international criminal court to which the United States is not a party. (Favors International trial and conviction for US troops)
- Voted NO: To decrease the United States dependence on imported oil by the year 2015.
- Voted NO: To create jobs for Americans, to reduce dependence on foreign sources of crude oil and energy, to strengthen the economic self determination of the Inupiat Eskimos and to promote national security.
- Voted NO: To provide alternative provisions to better encourage increased use of alternative fueled and hybrid vehicles.
- Voted NO: To permanently repeal the death tax.
- Voted NO: To allow the United States to render assistance to international efforts to bring to justice Saddam Hussein and other foreign nationals accused of genocide, war crimes or crimes against humanity.
- Voted NO: To redirect $1.214 trillion in revenues that would have been lost by implementing the President's entire tax cut agenda into a reserve fund to strengthen the Social Security trust funds over the long-term.
- Voted NO: On both Justice ALito and Roberts confirmations.
On Gun Control: Favors a complete handgun ban, and assault weapons ban. (Assault weapons are semi-automatic weapons). Rated "F" by the NRA for a consistent pro-gun control voting record in the Senate.
And this is just a glimpse into Bidens voting record. His vision for America; No energy independence, No guns, No legal protection of US troops overseas, No solvency in Social Security, No Supreme Court Justices that follow the U.S. Constitution, and higher Taxes"(snip)

Come on, we all know there was a similar long list of suposed negatives for everybody being considered, just as there no doubt will be for anybody that McCain picks.

Without getting into the details of legislation (add-ons for instance), it is difficult to know whether the motivations are as clearcut as they are presented especially by biased sources.
