I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
I never used to drink much - about one or two champagnes a night.
I used to think I worked better and it helped me. I was wrong.
I haven't had a single drink at work in 4 weeks and it was the best thing I could have done.
I am no longer tired half way thru the night. I was feeling like I needed to go home at 3am - I dont usually finish til 5 or 6.
I am not grumpy now. I used to get really shitty and give up when I felt tired.
The past 4 weeks I have made really good money and actually enjoyed my job for the first time in a long time.
So no more drinking and dancing ever again for me!!
Anyone else had similar experiences? I just thought I'd post in case anyone else might benefit from trying this.

Well done!
Ive fairly recently given up drinking too and Im really surprised at how easy it is! No negitive effects at all in terms of work (-:

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
Yey for no drinking!! Did you think it might make work harder? I did but I found the opposite effect. The good thing is that when I've been offered drinks I have told customers that I don't drink at work and they have been very impressed and encouraging about it.

Good job!
I'm a non-drinker too. I just find that it helps to have my wits about me and I find it easier to stay focused.

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
Good for all of you! :)
I'm trying to make the transition from actually being tipsy at work all the time, to just convincingly faking it. ;) Wish me luck.
I really hate drinking at work. There are so many empty calories in vodka so it makes my body look like shit pretty fast, and I swear drinking regularly ages me and makes my face look old. Even worse, once I started working drunk or high, it ruined my hustle and confidence, and now I feel like I *need* alcohol or some kind of mood-altering upper in order to turn it on at work and make any money. :(
Plus there's the tolerance factor. After awhile, one shot doesn't work its magic anymore, so I needed two, and then two no longer has any effect, so I just kept drinking more. Apparently my alcohol tolerance is way down now after taking 6 weeks off of work...I had one apple martini tonight and it made me loopy. :P I want it to stay that way. I like occasionally getting tipsy off of one vodka drink and then feeling good the next morning...instead of feeling like I *have* to drink, and needing a lot of alcohol to get any effect, and feeling sick and useless the next day.
And I really like wandering through the club with a water-filled rocks glass in hand, acting totally tipsy with customers, but actually being totally sober. :) I end up getting "high" off the money and the upbeat momentum, which feels just as good as any chemical high.
Sorry for rambling. But anyway, I think it's admirable and awesome that you've stopped drinking and I'm glad for you that your money's up because of it! Hopefully the same will soon be true for me too.

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
I find the same thing that customers are cool about it. I drink glasses of water all night now so I get my daily water intake easily at work which is great!
I wasnt sure what effect it would have on my work. I sometimes tend to be a bit on the shy side when it comes to talking to people but I have found that its not making any difference any more. I was worried about the pain factor most though, lol. I really work my body over on the stage and I do a minimum of 2 and a half hours of it each night I work, sometimes much more. I used to think that alcohol helped dull the pain but as it happens I havent noticed as much discomfort as usual!

^^
Same here on the water!! I get so thirsty at work and drinking extra water is great coz Im so bad usually at getting enough water.
Im def shy to talk to customers (always have been) but Im really working on that and the benefits are so great that I wont go back to drinking again.

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
I drink about 3 liters of water at work. Everyone gives me shit for drinking water. But whatever. They can kiss my well-hydrated ass.

That's awesome. I tried not drinking at all a few times but I still got really tired.

Good for you! :) I gave up alcohol for good in February and it's been great.

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
Yaaaah! :) I am so happy for you. Life is SO much better without alcohol. Drinking absolutely affects your appearance - face, tummy, and attitude.
Things for me have improved immensly since I stopped drinking 8 months ago. I've dropped 30lbs, have WAY more energy, my attitude is much better - and I get a lot more accomplished. I could never see myself going back.

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
I'm also a very shy person, and the shitty thing is is that customers notice almost immediately that I'm shy and they assume that because of that I'm not really interested in them :( When I drink, I get over the shyness fast, but I hate depending on alcohol to make me social. It just looks bad, and I can tell my body hates it, and it's obviously only a temporary "fix" for my social awkwardness. It's really hard for me to turn down a drink, and I'm not sure if that's because I have a drinking problem or if it's just really hard for me to say "no" when someone is being nice. Or both.
I'm going to try my hardest this week to NOT drink at work no matter what. Even if at first I think my money is being effected, I want to try and get past my social problems without a crutch. I'll let you all know how it goes!

TXchick i have already noticed that my tummy looks better, although I've been doing lots of running and cutting out carbs at night too.

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
Since I started working weekends only, I have stopped (I slipped up last night, though) and I like it a lot better. I'm not tired before the shift is over, I keep my wits about me, I'm not grouchy, I don't cry when someone is mean to me, I don't have to take a cab home, my make up doesn't get fucked up without me noticing, etc.

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
i started making way more money when i stopped drinking. im more worried about selling a dance than having a guy buy me a drink, i'm not spending my own money on buying a drink, or wasting my time drinking it. when i drink i dont make anything.

YES! I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM... I would love to be sober or only buzzed when snagging the guys but... like Eletrum said, the guys then assume that you aren't into them! Or that you're boring and not a party girl!
I don't need to be trashed or even drunk, but I love the social lubricant alcohol provides.
P.S. Has anyone considered drinking non alcoholic beer for a placebo effect?

that's what my ice and water-filled rocks glass is for. ;) Props do help when acting tipsy!
When I want to fake rolling on E for the night, I'll spend a few minutes with my eyes closed before I go on the floor, conjuring up the sensations and feelings that go along with a really good roll and channeling them into my mind and body. I BANK when I can fake being high on E.
Faking it works just as well as when I'm actually drunk or rolling; customers can never tell. ;)
It must be a mind-over-matter thing, b/c I swear I start to feel it a little for real, when I'm actually sober and just acting!

Im finding water works just fine. I think the fact that I have 25 years of drinking and partying under my belt helps though. Pretty much every night at work and every night clubbing is a lot of the same drunken shit over and over again so its all about doing the same thing really minus the alcahol :)

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
My first club, I smoked a lot, and drank a bit now and then. Second club was vice versa. In the 6 months between my last club and current club, I've decided to become straight edge after a friend of mine died from drunk driving. I have noticed a HUGE and I mean H U G E difference in my money. I went from $250/shift average to $450/shift average. I have moved into this awesome top floor apartment in Waikiki, and I am off food stamps. it has really made a difference for me. I have also dropped about 15 lbs, so I'm feeling all-over good!

Re: I dont drink at work now and it's awesome
The one thing I like about private parties is that I have a ready made legitmate reason for turning down drinks - I'm driving. ;D Yet even sometimes then they just can't take "no" for an answer. I have to come up with some stupid made up story about how "a friend" was pulled over recently on a stretch of road I often use blah blah.
(The times when I do have a driver, I will accept a drink however just like I do in the clubs .. will make it last the whole 'shift' as such if possible.... or use a story to get out of having to have that drink blah blah.)
When I worked (or work) in a strip club, I tend to do what Sveta does - use a prop. Except mine is usually soda water and lime (to imitate vodka, lime and soda) or lemonade in a short glass (to imitate vodka and lemonade). This helps as it makes you 'seem' like you are there to have a good time.
I don't refuse drinks as it helps me form a 'bond' with the customer except I only sip it (or look like I'm sipping it).. if I make a sale, I leave the drink behind. If they insist on me taking the drink with me, I will leave it behind after the dance(s). If I don't make a sale, I take the drink with me and dump it somewhere.
A great way to overcome the shyness is to have a ready made "script" that you feel comfortable (natural) using to initiate conversation. In this script, you have a standard set of questions to use to help initiate and keep the conversation flowing to a sale.
;)

That's a great idea for when a customer is actually spending and you don't want to kill the sale by refusing a drink offer. If I can't get a fake, I like to order something that looks really classy and is meant to be sipped and slowly savored: any kind of fruity or classic martini, wine, Chambord or Grand Marnier (on the rocks or in a snifter)...take a few sips while warming him up for the dance, then either go dance or leave and toss it. :P
