We should be grateful????
In sort of a spinoff to the "stripping is not really work" thread, stripping is not only easy, but we should be grateful?
At work on Saturday night a dancer (who is Hott btw) exits stage and comes and stands next to me at the DJ booth. She says sarcastically to me, "I made three dollars. That was soooo worth me going onstage," I say that sucks as the tiprail is full of guys, and I tell her I did not make much more than that. The DJ overhears and says:
"It pisses me off when you guys complain like that. Do you know how long I have to work to make a couple bucks?? I have to work a whole hour. You made a couple bucks in 6 minutes. You guys have it made. Your job is easy. I hate it when you come offstage and say OMG, I only made X. You should be grateful."
:O
I'm just stunned because he is a GOOD DJ. He pays attention, tries to get guys to tip, yells at them for not doing it, and everything. Yet he tells us to be happy we made $3 on a full rail? I mean we could say the same thing about his job, and I'm sure he made out with more money than I did that night, as I left with only $140. We had 24 girls Sat night, so even if every girl only gave him $10 he made $240 PLUS his wage. Not bad for doing "easy" work like sitting and playing music, turning on lights, and saying "witty" B.S. into the mike. I'm like you are not a dancer and you do NOT PAY TO WORK HERE. If we want to vent to each other then we can without your opinion. I would NEVER tell him that shit, if I heard him complain about only getting $5 off a dancer who made a bunch of money. WTF??? I am not going to be "grateful" making no cash on a full tiprail. Its not even like the other dancer and I were really bitching about it. You would think someone who worked in the industry would understand.

Re: We should be grateful????
Well, I think the DJ is a dickhead but I am grateful that I have stripping.
I didn't share this in the past but in February, there were lay-offs at my day job and myself and 2 of my friends were given the axe. I had stripping and was not worried about bills. My friends had it much worse than me.
So yes, I am grateful I'm able to make large amounts of money in short periods of time and that I don't have to worry about rent and tuition like my friends.
Not sure I would feel grateful for getting $3 to get naked onstage.........

Re: We should be grateful????
I am grateful that I can dance and that I make good money dancing. I don't compare my earnings to people who are on salaries or who make a lot less than me. Why? Because it's pointless. Im doing this as a job precisely because of how lucrative it can be. I dont care if someone points out that in their job they only make X amount. That means very little to me and my situation. I know what money CAN be made in this industry and I strive to make that.

Re: We should be grateful????
Yep. I honestly think the DJ and housemom leave with more $$$ than a lot of dancers do, on certain dayshifts.
12 girls x $10.00 tipout (our min.) = $120.00 + their hourly wage

Re: We should be grateful????
I'm grateful that I was born in Canada to parents who loved me rather than sadistic child-slavers in a nation where law is only a sham - as I'm sure we all are.
Doesn't mean I have to be pleased or even neutral when I have a bad night.

Exactly. It's not that I am not grateful per se, I like stripping, I know you have to take the good with the bad, but its not "easy" and I do not "have it made" IMO. I put up with the guys, the stigma of being a stripper, I have to work for my money, and if the money did not have the potential to be lucrative, then I would not be there. So what if someone's job only makes X amount? You CHOSE that job. Don't give me shit because I chose to be a stripper and earn money. I should be making money on a full tiprail. I don't think thats expecting too much and being "ungrateful."

Re: We should be grateful????
Random tangent: Some DJs have to tip out as well. :O

Re: We should be grateful????
Yes and No.
I'm definitely grateful that I've got the opportunity to dance, and that I'm physically healthy, and attractive enough to get hired anywhere. (Argh, that sounds so conceited, but I swear I don't mean it in a snotty way...just that I'm grateful for it.) So yeah, definitely I appreciate being able to dance.
But like jaizaine said it's pointless to compare my situation with anyone else's. Yeah, there are people who make a lot less and have to work ten times as hard. There are also people who make a lot more and have easier jobs. Who cares? It's all relative, it's pointless to compare your life to other people's, and I wouldn't appreciate some bitter asshole DJ giving me a lecture on gratitude. ::)

I dont think u sound conceited at all, just honest. Being attractive is one thing to feel grateful for coz that's mostly genetics ;)

Yes, I am definitely grateful but regardless, I don't need a lecture from my club's DJ.

Re: We should be grateful????
Complete BS...on a FULL rail to only make $3?? And you should be GRATEFUL that a bunch of cheapasses just leeched your show?? Would HE be grateful if every girl only tipped HIM $3?? Fucking asshole.

Re: We should be grateful????
Why is it always the DJs who are the first ones to make comments like this? All the DJs at my club are constantly complaining about the girls who don't tip, yet they all drive nicer cars than the dancers!!! Not only that, we SHOULD be making more money--we get naked, pay the club to work, and put up with alot of shit sometimes for that money!! They get to stay fully clothed in the safety of the DJ booth and get drunk and play music all while making an hourly wage plus tips. I'd like to see them get out there butt naked and dance for 3 songs for a measly $3!!!!!!

Re: We should be grateful????
I am convinced that unless the guy is professional DJ who enjoys DJing (those DO exist in a small minority), most men become strip club DJs because they hate women and get control from it.
Also, his math is atrocious. If he works 8 hours, gets $6/hour from the house and $10 from 24 dancers, he's making $288 that shift. That's $36/hour. It's not like he DJs in a strip club with no strippers tipping him.

Re: We should be grateful????
What is UP with some DJs and their pimp mentality? I had a DJ at one club try to charge me $40 for ONE song request. In a really pimpy way: "sure, I can play you that...just so you know, most girls slide me around $40-50 for the hookup...we've got to make a living too."
::) WTF? I don't need to hear any song that badly. I'll listen to it in my car on the way home for FREE.

Re: We should be grateful????
even if he was making $3 an hour, which he obviously doesn't, his whiny ass should be grateful too. There are people making less than that!

That's especially odd considering his earnings are directly tied to yours. If he's one of the good deejays, he surely understands this. If that's not his usual behavior, perhaps he was having a bad night for some reason not directly related to work. Like more bills coming due than money available. I went off on an office co-worker the other day for complaining about general work problems. She was justified in her complaints, but she was desperately whiney, it sounded so defeatist, and, most of all, I didn't want to hear stuff that would get me more depressed than I already was. Fortunately, we (figuratively) kissed and made up later. So, here's hoping your dj doesn't really feel that way on a good day. Or if he does, here's hoping he continues to do a good job anyway and you find a new corner of the club to vent. ;)

Re: We should be grateful????
^ I am POSITIVE the DJs where I work make 500 on a bad night, and about 1500 on a good night. I've done the math.

Yep. $10 minimum tip, times 50-60 girls on a weekend night == $500-$600 for the DJ (and no reason for me to over-tip.)

Re: We should be grateful????
Word sisters! I wish they would stop paying dj's hourly wages and start making them pay house fees like the rest of us. Make some of these pimps do a lil' more for the $.
I've worked with some really sweet dj's, but too many of them are cold hearted greedy jerks!
Today I saw a girl who after tip outs, made only $3.00. And just about all of us were in her boat today too.... while the dj and mom walked with AT LEAST $500 each........

ugh, don't get me started on another housemom rant. A housemom making 500$?? Ridiculous. No way do they deserve even 1/10th of that.
Seriously, housemoms are the most useless thing on earth. I will never see the value in tipping some fat bitchy hag to sit on her ass all night, doing nothing but giving the dancers a hard time and trying to stir up drama between the girls. ::) I can bring a granola bar, tampons and whatever else I need for myself, thanks. My first club didn't have a housemom and somehow the club ran just fine. It was awesome to be able to take a break in the DR and re-group without some old bitch riding my ass about sitting down for five minutes.

What the hell? That is kind of ridiculous. Are you sure they don't tipout or something? You would think that a good business owner would be able to get a great DJ for less. Our DJ's make about minimum wage, plus $4 per girl (we give $20, he keeps $4 and tips out rest) plus tips. I would guess about $200/night but that is just a guess. And we have good DJ's for the most part :)
