What has the adult industry done for you???
Before I started escorting I danced....and before that I was a student fresh from high school. To this day, I still remember sitting in my dorm room thinking to myself, "once you choose this lifestyle you will never go back."
At that tender age I KNEW once I started selling my body I would never go back to the traditional way of working for a dollar. The adult industry can be evil, yet an incredibly easy way of making money. SO MUCH CASH for SUCH VERY LITTLE WORK. Basically I sold my soul to the devil--- and I pay for it everyday!
When I was only 18 and starting this job (OMG 10+ years ago) ((as a matter of fact I got paid for my "services" before I was 18, but we won't go there)) I never believed or understood the stories I heard from people about how so many girls become jaded in this industry. At that time I would have defended an sort of thought~~~ and despised anyone who might have said something like that. My clients always told me how sweet I was, and till this day they still believe I am. I've always felt that I'm a cheerful person, I love myself, deep down I love my job, I love casual sex, and how can so many people hate the sex industry? I mean GIRLS go out and fuck for FREE, I might as well get paid to do it! Right????
I loved making xxx amount of $$$$ more than my peers who were still in school and had to work 10 times harder than myself. I liked having the newest coolest things in the store. The nicest clothes, the coolest makeup, prettiest purses, etc....
All the things I didn't have growning up....
Where are these things today?
None of those things mean anything to me, they are all objects of the past...
10 years later I look back at myself and the things I have accomplished in life and see my life as stagnant. What do I have to show for it now? Sure I had the opportunity to excell, but monetary things go out of style. And unless you work hard to better yourself, you have nothing to show for it.
I should have gone to school and saved money for 10 years towards my education & future, but I didn't. I lived for the moment- and lost out. Its like the drug dealers who drive around in nice ass cars, with lots of friends and hangers on--- sure you are ballin now, but where will these people be in 10 years when you are broke? As soon as you don't have your money-- no one cares!!! If I compare myself to my classmates from '99 I see that many of them are making it in life with real careers and I'm still standing still with a 10 year gap in my resume, should I decide to try and get a "real job." I felt so shitty when my little sister told me that her home room teacher was one of my best friends in high school. I mean where am I now--- careerwise?
Serious things you have to think about, when it comes to the game of LIFE.
I also think about the burdens/strain providing has put on my health. Physical, mental, & relationship wise- I have missed out on so much. As we tell our clients, "Nothing in this life is FREE!"
I can attest to that 110% When I was 18 I thought I was prepared to handle it all, this lifestyle would never bring me down--- in other ways it has hurt me more than I can express.
Soooo would I change what I've been thru??? Sometimes I may say emphatically YES, other times I would say NO. This "career" has made me who I am today and has taught me so much. I have chosen this lifestyle for myself, on my own free will and this job has afforded me many luxuries & opportunities toward a better way of life---
It is all up to ~YOU~ what YOU do with it.
Sure... I fucked up, but many people have taken the opportunity and ran with it. Hands down I will say that providing has left me very fucked up in the head and I have have a very distasteful outlook on men and relationships. I have a hard time trusting people and never would believe that any man could be faithful. Maybe I was that way before I started fucking for money, but I would never wish this lifestyle upon anyone I cared about if they had another way out in life.
For those who have chosen this as a stepping stone and a way to an end--- I respect you. I wish I could have done the same and used this as a way to an end instead of an easy way out whenever I need cash!!!
Sure this post may be wishy washy, but that is exactly how I feel and pretty much how this industry has left my head.
I would like to hear other ladies opinions on the matter------
Anyone??
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
Um, the adult industry has given me a lot! It gave me the freedom and the money I needed to finish my degree with a high GPA, and it has given the me finances I needed to buy a home and begin investing. It has given me tremendous self confidence, and a great workout. It has given me excellent sales skills. It has given me numerous contacts that I may approach for investment opportunities. It has given me a few great friends.
I feel very confident that being able to strip has benefited me greatly, and that I will be able to transition into a more traditional occupation easily. I was very careful to keep a 'cover' job at all times so as not to have any gaps in my resume, but now that shall be a moot point as I will be self employed in my chosen profession anyway.
However, I may have approached the whole thing differently!
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
i have never escorted but as a dancer of seven years my sentiments are almost exactly as yours.
my bills are paid. i have decent stuff, a decent car. but i dont have savings or a resume.
is all relative i suppose. we cant all have iras, and stocks....
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
I really didn't intend for this thread to be an insult to the adult industry at all--- Its all what you make it. Some people win, others lose--- I'm not passing judgment-- just giving my take on the matter and wondering how others feel.
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
It's all in what you make of it. What strikes me is in your post you say "I KNEW once I started selling my body I would never go back to the traditional way of working for a dollar. SO MUCH CASH for SUCH VERY LITTLE WORK."
The sex industry is not the only way to make good money, you know. It's just an easy one to get in to.
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
exactly everything i have earned or not has been a direct result of what i did with my money and effort.

only if you are hot and have game....
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
^^^ I meant comparatively, of all the jobs that you can make good money at, stripping is a relatively easy one to start. Law school, medical school, tech, investments requiring large amounts of capital to start with... Or just be an average or better looking girl with a little bit of drive and have at it!
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
Yup just like I said-- "ITS ALL WHAT YOU MAKE IT" I've known that for a long time. I know alot of girls who have go into the industry, accomplished there goals, and got out. At the same time I have met girls who have been in the industry 20+ years with not a damn thing to show for it. Then there are many ladies who are in between with a multitude of different reasons for choosing this job.
Maybe I'm feeling bit pissy this evening and that is why I made this post but I'm not hating at all. I APPRECIATE WHAT THE ADULT INDUSTRY HAS DONE FOR ME------ but I also wish I would have made more conscious & smart decisions with the money it provided me. Thats what I'm trying to say. Understand???
Gosh!!!

Thank you...at least one person gets what I'm trying to say!
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
Well, it kept me off the streets (or with some lame bf) for my younger years, though little else. It's sad but until I started this time (last May) I wasn't serious about it and I wasn't serious about much, future-wise. It's been a little rough, but I have savings, I have a car and I'm working on my credit.
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
I don't mean to make you feel that way, OSW. I'm kinda drunk and my reading comprehension may be off, but I think you've edited your original post so it looks like I'm just reiterating what you already said.
You asked for opinions, so I gave you mine.
Re: What has the adult industry done for you???
The adult industry has done everything for me! But then again, I always approached it in a responsible manner- I opened an IRA when I was 18 and bought my first house 2 years later. The best thing it has given me thou is freedom. The time and money to pursue things that i really care about. Traveling is high on my priority list, so it gave me the means and the flexibility to do that. So I really can't complain....

I absolutely agree with this. I have a house, my husband and I have nice cars, but our savings is tiny, very tiny. The only thing I would have done different;y with my time in the business is to have been smarter financially.
