An exotic persona for an exotic look?
Hi all, the "Male Fantasy" thread gave me an idea.
When I'm at work, I know that I should be somewhat different from how I am in real life. So I generally try to be very bubbly, flirty, fun, and happy. However, I don't make as much as I would like. From reading around on here, I've seen several people say that the persona that works for one type of "look" may not go over well with another. That is, a cute blonde might do best by being fun and bubbly, but an exotic type needs to put forth a different type of personality.
Well, I'm definitely the exotic type. Half Asian and half white, and people are always asking "What ARE you?" and guessing me to be everything under the sun. But when I open my mouth, I'm a bubbly girl-next-door with a California accent. Do y'all think that I would do better by acting different? If anyone here is similarly exotic looking, what kind of persona do you put on at work and how do men respond to you?
In real life, I have been told that I come off as both innocent and intimidating - like I'm a wholesome girl but I might bite your head off if you try to talk to me. Lol, it's a weird combo and I am neither innocent nor intimidating once you talk to me, but apparently that's how people see me. It might have something to do with the fact that I'm shy. Anyway, I was thinking that I might play up the aloof/intimidating factor somehow, instead of being the girl-next-door. I'm clueless as to how to make this work, though. Does reserved and quiet ever work in a strip club? What do you suggest?
Also, I was thinking of faking an accent - any tips?
Thanks!

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
An Asian accent will definitely make you money. Know when to lay it on thick and when to use more vocabulary. Guys will melt.

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
Yeah, tha'ts what I was thinking. Work on your makeup to accentuate your asian features more. Like Alexxa said, work on the voice too.

Hey Moll,
I'm just like you! Most people guess I'm half asian and white.
I would say try the asian accent cause an asian girl at work does that and banks it. I would love to try but I can't get the accent right without sounding fake :O
But I would def say keep the happy and bubbly appeal cause its hard not to find a happy go lucky girl attractive. :)

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
Moll, I'm just like you - only you can add hispanic and jewish to my mix too : P. I've done very well for myself in more laid back areas, but am in the midst of overhauling my persona to help me succeed in bigger money areas. Just wanted to shout out!
Yeah, I'm curious about this too!

This is a really cool idea. I can fake my moms Philipino accent! hahaha Whats a good excuse for having an accent though? I mean, what if they ask you to say something in a foreign language you don't speak? Or worse yet... what if they speak the language?!?

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
Awesome, guys! I'm glad to see that there are other hapas on this site. All right, everyone seems to think that the Asian accent is a good idea. I'll have to rent some movies where they speak in an accent and try to pick it up. My accent sounds fake too right now, Theprincess. Whenever I do it, my friends bust out laughing, which isn't really what I'd want to result from a sales pitch - lol.
Venusace138, I thought about that problem for a while and finally realized that I can pretend to be from some remote region where they speak an obscure local dialect. That's actually not too farfetched, as my mom's family is from an area in China where this is the case. Not sure about what to do if they want us to say something in the language. I guess I could try and make up some sort of nonsense phrase and practice it.
The makeup tip is an interesting idea. I'm not too good with makeup, but I can see judicious application of eyeliner making my eyes more almond-shaped.
Any more advice about personas? Ideas on how to make the intimidating/aloof thing work, or do you all agree that fun and bubbly is best? Thanks for all the tips so far!

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
I'm half Latina and half Russian with a slight New England/North Eastern U.S. accent. I don't try to "act" more latin or russian though. Its hard for me to "act", I rather be myself and attract guys from the North East, they spend the most money here anyways.

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
^ You know, people always tell me I have a New England accent too. I've never heard it before in my life. Everyone always asks where I'm from, and I'm like, uh, here... People tell me I look Asian, European (I'm slightly Polish) ... I always wanted to try doing the exotic thing, but I dunno how I can make my look and odd accent work together.
As for the aloof/intimidating thing, just pretend like you don't speak a lot of English! (Oh my gosh... maybe I should try this. Less talking to customers...)
Yeah, you better have a good act for this one, maybe even do a little research. If it pays off in the end, it'll be worth it.
For the makeup, I suggest maybe a bronze-ish lipstick/lipgloss. Maybe a little brown/black color just on the corner of the eyes, I can't explain it. Done right, it's looks pretty awesome.

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
when i first started dancing, i used to tell my real ethnicity to guys- italian, greek, german, russian... i'm a real mutt. but what's worked for me is to tell them that i am 1/2 colombian, 1/2 italian. it's my story and i'm sticking to it.
i created a complete persona for myself- my age, occupation outside the club (hair stylist), etc. are all ficticious.

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
try lowering the pitch of your voice, so you sound more seductive, and less cheerleader. Practice talking slower. Act like you are planning what to say everytime you say something, don't just blurt out the 1st thing that pops into your head. When the custie asks you a question, pause for 3-4 seconds before you answer. Or try taking a drink while he is asking the question so you have to swallow before you can answer. Describe yourself and the other girls you work with as "women". ie: "So do you like exotic women? I'm half chinese..."

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
Im a Kiwi girl working in a Kiwi strip club, but I look Russian/Swedish, to the point where I get addressed in Russian frequently by Russian customers. Kiwi customers always like my look but as soon as they find out I'm a Kiwi they arent interested. I've thought about developing the persona and accent to go with my look, but I feel pretty bad about having to lie about who I am just to make money. Is it worth it? Do I just act to play the part and be happy to be a wholesome Kiwi girl in my everyday life? And since I've never been to Russia how am I supposed to pull off this persona, are men just stupid enough that they are happy to believe me as long as they think they are talking to some amazing exotic girl?

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
I'm Chinese but American, also with a California-like way of talking. I never went for the Asian accent, because for me, it doesn't seem sexy at all. A lot of guys would probably be able to tell that my accent was phony if I tried to use it anyways. I make good money with my slutty white girl in an Asian body persona; it gives them what they want to look at combined with someone they can talk to. My stripper persona is just me with an accentuated sluttiness. I say do what you are comfortable with in terms of persona.

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
The accent idea might work well for you - but be sure you can pull it off.
If you grew up hearing family members (or whoever) speaking English with a thick accent and you can mimic that sound really well, then I say it's worth a shot.
If you're unsure of how to work a particular accent, though, I think it would be worth it to practice a little first.
Bad phony accents are almost never appealing - they just make the person trying to pull it off look really silly.
On the other hand, real accents (or well-executed fake ones) can drive men wild!

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
Well, I'm a Spanish girl from Puerto Rico, and since I also speak a bunch of other languages (like Portuguese, Italian and Japanese in addition to English and Spanish; my Spanish sounds more like the one spoken in the old country, however), I have a very peculiar accent that seems to be very popular among clients.
Plus, I also have strong facial features (something very rare in this part of the US; most women have round features; strippers and non strippers), light olive skin, and the typical Spanish body shape that seems to be a rarity here in Virginia (there are tons of Mexican/Amerindian women in this area, they're not strippers, but they're all apple shape; mine resembles more to the likes of J.Lo, Paz Vega, Raquel Welch, etc).
But servers and internet protocols are not very exotic; I'm such a fucking nerd!!!!

Is it worth it? LOL yes of course it's worth it as long as you're getting paid. Whenever a customer asks me for my nationality I reply with, "What do I look like?"
Then he'll usually respond with something and I say, "Yes, & (insert other nationalities here.)"
That way he'll feel good for guessing it "right." I have an entire character when I'm working and I don't feel bad for lying at all. After all, we're there to make money, not to make friends with the customers.

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
Half Native American/half Swedish -w/ dreadlocks. I stick out like a sore thumb. I just play up my darker features & complexion. I use alot of kohl & liner -wear flowers in my hair, exotic looking jewelry, etc...
Exotic girls are something different from the norm -people always want what they don't have. Enjoy being different, right. Good Luck, girlie!

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
Yeah, accents are a toughie -be wary. Especially since they're soo easy to slip in & out of easily. Too easy to get caught -specially after a couple cocktails.:-\

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
I guess being and acting exotic could bring you business for sure. As it has been said, everybody wants what they don't have.
I'm a born and raised Brazilian, the real deal, and I think being different and being one of the 2 REAL Brazilian girls in the club made a difference. But it sure brings a lot of haters too, many girls talked shit saying I was making more money than them just cause I was Brazilian, and it's not true, or is it? LOL
Bottom like, if it wasn't important there wouldn't be so many fake Brazilians in the club, specially black girls pretending to be Brazilians to get more business LOL... it must work for them! So use what you got and embrace your culture, that will help ya for sure ;-)

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
Oh, just adding on, if you try to use an accent be aware that most of the guys might like it but there will be for sure a few RETARDS that will make fun of you too.
I had a few ignorant ones asking me the stupid shit: "You have been here for 3 years and you still have an accent?" I was like bitch please, I speak 3 languages, how many can you speak?
Sometimes it's hard to have an accent too and deal with that kind of crap.

Re: An exotic persona for an exotic look?
I speak and write Japanese so I have a monopoly over Jap men at my work. I look a little oriental, and sometimes they ask me if I am part Japanese. I speak very well and my 'accent' sounds authentic when I want it to from what I've been told.
If you can pick up on some Japanese then use that!
Some Japanese phrases and words you can use, written in Romaji (so you can read it):
"Would you like a lap dance?" - "Odori ma sho?"
"It's twenty dollars" - "Nijuu doru"
"It's twenty five dollars" - "Nijuu go doru"
"Two dances for thirty dollars" - "Ni odori no sanjuu doru"
"You are cute!" - "Anata wa kawaii"
"I am fun!" - "Watashi wa tanoshii"
"I'll come back soon" - "Sugui ai tai"
"I am a virgin" - "Watashi wa shojo yo"
"Draft beer" - "Nama biru" (Just say Nama)
"Big boobs" - "Ooki oppai"
"My name is ____" - "Watashi no namae wa ____"
"Thank you" - Arigato
"You're welcome" - Douitashimashite
I hope this helps!
If you can't remember all of the phrases just remember "Odori ma sho?" and the price of your lap dance, "doru" means dollars.
