Would you dance in your home town?
So im a waitress right now at a strip club right next door to where i grew up.
i see people i know all the time, but the dancers make a killing!
Ive been throwing the idea around for a couple weeks now and everytime i decide to do it i see someone i went to highschool with, or an ex-boyfriend, or an ex-coworker and i change my mind.
I hate waitressing, i get treated like crap. ive danced at clubs farther away but i cant take the drive anymore(over and hour).
I would say fuckit and just dance there but i also have a kid.. which makes it even harder.
I just know im going to bump into someone around town who is going to recognize me and ill be with my daughter and it will just be aweful.
any advise?
should i just push the thought out of my head out of respect for my kid and to avoid the awkward encounters with ex's and old school mates?
Thanks girls

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
not me... but it depends on the type of town you live in

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I did. I danced during the day so I would not see any of my peers.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
lol
maybe i should have made a poll?
for those who dance in your home town, do u have kids? would you reconsider it if u did?
my town is pretty small and very gossipy
but the money potential is just so big!

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
no kids. though if I did, I probably wouldn't care. Then again, my town is a million or so.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I would not, though I've considered it. A few friend of mine danced at our local clubs when we were younger and didn't see too many of our friends, but now that we're all over 21, it's almost a guarantee.
You know you'll run into these people, so if you'd have a problem with it or if you'd spend you're whole night running from them, then don't bother doing it.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I wouldn't. I drive one hr each way to the clubs I dance at. I'm entertaining the idea of a closer club (30 mins away) but even then that makes me nervous.
edit. No kids but that if I did I think that would be a motivation for me to keep the drive.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I don't and i wouldn't either, especially because i do have kids. It's a small world & i just wouldn't want to deal with any of it.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
No way, unless my hometown was Vegas or NY or some other stripper mecca.
-
Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I dance at home, though not much anymore..but 1) there a million clubs here 2) I didnt grow up here (and the closest place to dance where I did grow up..lo those many years ago...lol...is 45 minutes away) and 3)I dont have kids
I think it would depend on how bad you want to,how old your kid is and whether anyone would tell him/her

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
It depends on what you mean by "town". If you are talking about a town/city like dallas, houston, denver whatever then sure why not. If your talking about a town with only 2 high schools, then no if you are trying to stay undercover.
I dance like 15 minutes from my parents house at one club and on the other side of town about 15 minutes from my high school. All of it is close to the college. I could really care less if some one I know walks in. No shame in my game.
I think the obvious answer is is you don't want people to recognize you dancing and you see people you know coming to the club, then don't dance there. It's really a personal thing, not something you can ask other people about.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I grew up in San Diego and I work here so... I guess my answer is "yes". But, I don't have kids and it's a large city, so I don't know how much that would help you. I guess it's up to your comfort level. What if you danced during the day? That way, if you ran into anyone you knew... Sure, you'd be the stripper... but they'd be the PL who came into a strip club at 1am on a weekday.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I do but I would seriously reconsider it if I had any children. Adults and kids alike can be cruel to children and you never know what someone might say to your child that's hurtful if they know you dance.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
Short answer from me on this one. No way!
-
Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I have, and I did run into small number of people I knew, a small group of them (bachelor party) being guys I graduated high school with. Crazy stuff.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I have and do right now!
It used to bother me but then I really broke it down this way:
What am I doing? I'm going to not dance, make less money, and have a job I hate all so that these people I barely know WILL LIKE ME? Fuck that! They don't pay your bills, they don't know what your life is like, and they don't walk in your shoes. At the end of the day all that matters is YOUR life is good, and the rest....screw it!

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I did, and I have danced for:
1. The guy who's kid I babysat when I was 15.
2. A jr. high crush
3. The principal ( icky yet oddly satisfying)
4. an ex boyfriend
many, many other uncomfortable bumpinto's.
But ya know what? When your working for $20's and they have some...it does help to ease the uncomfortableness.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
As the old saying goes, "Don't sh*t where you sleep..."
I learned this lesson like 20 years ago.
I used to really like this guy that lived across the street. So, I was talking to my mom about him and she was like, "Imagine if you guys decided to date and things went wrong, then you've gotta see him all the time and things are going to be all weird at home. Home is supposed to be your retreat, not somewhere where your always freaking out and stressed..." And she nicely concluded, "Don't sh*t where you sleep..."

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
Would I dance in my home town (where I was born)? No. My mom is still there and she's not THAT open minded, plus if anyone started dogging her on not raising me right..it would be 'world war three' on they ass.
Would I dance where I currently reside? Yes. Because I don't really give a fuck what anyone thinks about me here.

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
^^^ I don't consider dancing & taking a dump in the same catagory?
I grew up here & now work here. I am confident being a dancer, and making tons of money. seeing people from highschool is a breeze. I'm doing good, looking good all that. the ppl you see at the club are there cuz they want to be there. they wouldnt kno you worked there unless they PAID to get in their damnselves. own what you do and take care of yourself. if people are miserable gossipy haters, they will do it regardless of your occupation. my 2 cents

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I danced 30 miles outside of my (somewhat smallish...) home town. Only ran into 4 people I knew. May sound like a lot, but my secret never got out!
-
Re: Would you dance in your home town?
I probably would. Too bad my home town has ZERO strip clubs. It would be a hell of a lot easier to get to work, I can tell you that!

Re: Would you dance in your home town?
Fuuuuuck no. I don't need that shit
