Garage & Yard Sales
My favorite summertime hobby is going to garage and yard sales, and with the season winding down, I thought I'd post some of my best scores and see what treasures other people have found.
-Western Digital 120GB external hard drive- $10.
-Vintage NES with a dozen games- $4.
-Brand new, never opened Ipod shuffle- $20.
-Jones Soda Thanksgiving gift box (flavors include Turkey with Gravy, Corn on the Cob, Smoked Salmon Pate, Broccoli Casserole, and Pecan Pie)
-Big set of Calvin & Hobbes collections- $.50 each.
-Palm Tungsten- Great PDA that makes a perfect MP3 player- $15.
-Big box of the recent "Classic Trilogy" Star Wars figures, still in package, for $1 each (sold in stores for $10).`
-Spiderman Monopoly, never opened- $1.
Aside from Nerd stuff, I found some nice, practical things, like a solid pine dresser (which I really needed), a like-new Craftsman lawnmower and GE refridgerator, and enough pieces of cat furniture to assemble a mighty cat-fortress. All for ridiculously cheap prices.
But the greatest find of the year was at the very first yard sale I went to. When I was a boy, I would gaze longingly at this in the Sears Christmas catalog, but it was much too expensive to ever hope to find under the tree. But now, here it was in front of me. All the parts were there, even the box- although it was a bit tattered. There was no tag on it, and given the eBay-ish prices on some other things, I feared the seller would want $100 for it (which I would still be sorely tempted to pay). But when I asked, he said "twenty bucks." I don't think I've ever been happier to part with a twenty. And now, at long, long last, I am the proud owner of... an OMNIBOT!

Anyone else have any luck?

^^^that's fucking awesome. I've managed to find three very nice solid wood bookshelves and a mini fridge. And I always find books. Lots and lots of books.
