LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
Hello All!
(and more specifically the London Crew!)
So once upon a time (when I was living florida) I used to work as a dancer...
I moved to London... I've been living a normal life for 3 years and recently was made "redundant" from my 9-5....
and so I find myself crawling back to the world of stripping...
not that it's a bad thing... honestly... I've found the office thing a bit 'soul destroying'
So i went for the obvious choice.... (an audition at Stringfellows)... got the job and shall be starting tomorrow...
one problem.... while i know i can pole dance... and i know i can hustle... i'm absolutely terrified by the private dance aspect of it! And i don't mean that i'm scared of going nude... (i'm a shameless exhibitionist) oh no! it's the big scary private dance rule list of doom that has me worried...
Im used to "lap dancing" ... american style.... which is actually quite "rude"...
however it appears UK legislation doesn't allow you to do much more than stand away from the customer with your knees together whilst your hips wiggle... i guess you guys call it "air-dancing" or something like that...
anyways...
:/
I really find it hard to believe that there isn't some kind of loop hole here...
elsewise whyyyyy would customers bother... (as someone who loves going to strip clubs with her man... and appreciates a good lapdance just as much as him.... i certainly would not want to pay £20 to see something that is no more naughty than a top shelf soft core porn mag you could get at any news agent!)
that being said...
simple question for UK ladies (especially ones that work at or have worked at strings...) that i would love answered but have been unable to find anywhere else.....
during a private dance..... can you get as close as you want / have as much contact as you want AS LONG AS you are fully clothed?
like, can you get away with starting the dance clothed and with contact then back off 1/2 way through and strip down?
or is that a one way ticket out the front door?
sorry for sounding like such a n0ob... this scene just seems sooooo much different to what i'm used to back home!
thank you much in advance for your replies!!

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
Nope don't think there's a way around it, once you start dancing the dance has begun, whether you're fully clothed or not doesn't matter.
For get about the bump 'n' grind style dances, in London, dancers make money by sell their company via their personality (whether it be for a dance or an hour sit-down) . Good luck, try strings for a week or so and you'll get the hang of it.

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
cheers for that shameless! :)
ahh well... I shall forget about what i learned about dancing in the states and hope that my psychology degree and the fact that I'm a general nutcase who loves talking to anyone and everyone will serve me well...
fingers crossed!
i shall report back with my findings!

Are you American? Because you seem to have the britt lingo down quite well for having only been there 3 years lol. I'm going to London in Dec and will be checking out the clubs myself, but as a "punter."

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
The London clubs are officially strictly no touching and very few have private booths or whatever where you might get away with ignoring them. Stringfellows certainly has none, neither do the Secrets clubs or Spearmint. In most of the rest of the UK the girl can touch the man {grinding etc} but the man is not allowed to touch the girl. In some places like Birmingham the rules are not really enforced at all so it's more like the US.
Stage shows are pretty non existent in UK clubs though I know Spearmint employ Lolita {Loaded mag showgirl of the year} from the White Horse Shoreditch to put on pole dancing shows sometimes.

Does that mean Spearmint has a pole on which girls can dance? Or is it only for features?
-
Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
Not sure about all Spearmints but Tottenham Court Rd has a stage with poles plus various podium type things where girls do dance. I think the regular girls do use the stage though they also have experts like Lolita who I think doesn't do private dances there.
Features are very unusual in the UK, I think Spearmint are the only ones to use them, Lolita does the Colnbrook club as well.

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
You do main stage in spearmint on tottenham court road even if you're not a feature act like for instance Lolita, Lolly or Lee and Tina that are absolutely amazing. Everyone's eyes are on it so you do get dances from it, however tips are very very rare. Dancing on the cocktail bar gets you pretty noticed as well as the main bar is just underneath it. The podiums are usually a bit of a waste of effort though. If you're good on the pole go for Spearmint instead of strings where I think there's too little stage space to do anything especially elaborate on .

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
there was a documentary on channel 4 not that long ago discussing how no-one abides by the rules etc.

The three spearmint rhinos that I've worked in certainly have private booths where you sell sit-downs (15 mins, half-hours or however many hours you can hopefully get at 240 quid/hour). Haven't personally worked in Secrets but have friends that have and there are def private rooms where you sell sit-downs by the hour (the guy has to buy champagne though)...For Your Eyes Only on City Road- in fact only has private booths with curtains where you dance that is no open space shared dancing areas. In other words, Tyke you should def try to have a few private dances, strictly to update your info on clubs of course!

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
Well, after my first night... to answer the question (just in case anyone else is hunting for the same thing....)
at strings no touching means no touching... (and dont even try it because there are closely monitored cameras in every private booth!) some poor girl was crying at the end of the night because she had been caught out for getting too close...
that being said... in the private booths there are chairs / walls / tables etc to hang on to so it's not so hard to give a creative and provocative "air dance" without actually breaking any rules... all my customers walked away happy... which was all i was worried about!
my biggest complaint about the club is defo the poles... stage space is soooooooo minimal and the ceilings are sooooooo low... (which i find a bit heartbreaking because i LOVE a good pole routine...) i don't even think the customers were watching the pole dances most of the time....(which doesn't surprise me because the dances were usually boring and unenthusiastic.... no matter how gorgeous the girl was...

haha! my accent is totally fucked! - every single customer i had last night did not believe i was american... >:(
they say that when you move to another country you either totally keep your accent... or totally lose it within 4 years....
i suppose i am in the latter group :(

I'm not sure what you mean by private booths, in Spearmint TCR the private dances take place in seperate areas at the side of the main club but big enough for 6 or 8 girls to use at once and with a bouncer watching. They are visible from the main club, I know there are seperate rooms you can hire but I always thought they were intended for larger groups rather than 1 on 1 dances or sit downs. The Secrets I went into had the private dances in a seperate VIP bit which 20 girls could have used at once though no bouncer when I was there. Neither Spearmint nor Secrets involved any contact at all when I went. In some of the Northern clubs { Purple Door, Wildcats etc}private dances are all in a row of cubicles away from the main club area big enough only for a 1 on 1, often with a curtain for extra privacy. That was what I think of as private booths.
I've been into FYEO City Rd twice now {opening night and the LDA awards} but not had a private dance either time. Rather like Spearmint it's got lots of rooms off the main area but I don't think it has the sort of cubicles you get in other parts of the UK.

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
im just starting a new club in uk tis weekend, and in my previouse 2 along with this new one there is no contact aloud what so ever with customers, whether clothed or not, but...... however, this rule i hav seen broken countless times by almost every dancer i have met, i personally dont touch, unless by accident, i have previously been fined for leanin back on a customer durin a dance, so i know its not aloud, but have seen other girls contiuosly lean back, sit on laps, legs on knees, and stradle customers with no one telling them off, but its just my luck to do it once and get fined lol, at my club ive jus been at there is a rule were one foot must be on the floor at all times, which i see broken by many girls, i can say that the clubs ive worked in are not high end, but if these clubs are that strict then i can imagine a well reputated place like stringfellows will certainly want u to abide by there rules at all times, as for closeness, in my clubs ive been aloud to go as close as i want as long as nothin touches the customer

-----------------------------------
Spearmint def has private rooms and following their renovations a year or so ago the big dancing areas that you describe were turned in separated type seats where one guy is not watching another have a dance nor is this area visible from the main area of the club as there is a dark glass wall.

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
ignore tyke he usualy comes up with some rubbish he thinks he's a lapdance expert and knows everything and usualy posts in the dancers only section even though he's a man that usualy doesnt buy dances,in my club there are srict no contact rules and i consistently make good money, i think letting men touch you all is fine if you are ugly or have such a crap personality you cant sell your time for a VIP x

I agree, Anyway If you want to work in a club with some contact try Secrets or for lapdancing in London try Platinum who will audition you by making you do an air dance but its defo lapdancing, I would say tho is Plat you prob need to do sit downs to make money, Secrects is a bit crazy in the sense that girls run 4 the customers all at once, platinum is more laid back but less busy but vips r easier to sell their cos they don't force the champagne so much, anyway hope this helps}:D
-
Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
We all seem to agree, but be careful with the platinum bar though! 'Vouchers gone missing' happened to me and I know other girls that got the same treatment.
In my case they claimed the customers only paid for an hour's VIP when I know for a fact that he paid for two, I tried arguing my case and the customers in question offfered to give me his credit card statement but in the end I left the club and he will never set his foot there again (which is great going considering he's one of the few in the city still with a company credit card).
Also not too sure about some members of the management and their tendency to indulge in frequent substance abuse.

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?

I've got a friend whose vouchers were never converted into money...but this was more than 3 years ago when the club changed owners and the previous one apparently stole all the money (don't know how much of this is true).
Platinum used to be a strictly air-dance club but it's been going downhill for some time... Nevertheless, there are loads of new girls coming every week... and majority of them started doing lapdances and somehow it became a norm rather than an exception... But you never know, you can still get fined for a lapdance because it's prohibited, yet it gets overlooked on a regular basis...>:(
Con**d left (or, more precisely, was fired) - I guess it was him who you referred to with regards to the use of illegal substances :D ?

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
For the American girls that went to work in London, how did that work for you? Did you have to get some sort of working visa?
-
Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
You're spot on if you know what I mean. It's bad enough with dancers fuelling their egos with speed cut coke.
Also when working at platinum I found it silly that lap dances are not allowed, which for me were bloody hard to do anyway as customers practically sit on the floor in very low sofas...but it was ok that in VIP girls were sitting in customer's laps and kissing their necks etc YUUUCK! Apparently different rules apply then as girls are not dancing but 'hostessing', the times I went to VIP I did not stop dancing or I sat next to the customer!

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
my friend worked in the platimum lounge for three years and has just left around a 4 months ago, she said it got so dirty wih touching in vip which she wont do that she went in for three weeks and the monney was so bad afer costs she was left with only a few pounds.
if you want to work in england you cnt realy get in wihout a visa and they are changing the law in april so you have to be a professionl ie a doctor engineer o get in, not a lapdancer x

Re: LONDON / Private dances and no contact?
