"Is that your real name?"
I try to be very tolerant of customers who may make a stupid/insensitive/weird comment. I understand many are just trying to be cool, and at times fail miserably at it. But there is one question that makes me want to scream :
"Is that your real name?"
Clenching my teeth and smiling is all I can do to not respond like a smart-ass. All I want to yell is "What do YOU think? Do you think I would actually tell potential stalkers ANYTHING about my true identity?" or something sarcastic and bitchy.
How do you respond politely to this question? It's just so incredibly stupid, and the answer so obvious, that I have great trouble tolerating it. Grrr...
Thank you!

Re: "Is that your real name?"
" i'd tell you but then i'd have to kill you " smile coyly

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I would smile and say 'sometimes'

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I do the "Real Fake Name" thing. Like a secondary stage name used for such occasions. I tell 'em my name's Michelle, and treat it like a secret. ::) Then they feel like they've bonded with you and that you trust them, and, from my experience anyway, are more likely to spend on ya.

This is exactly what I do. It works like a charm. ;D

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I tell them it's part of my real name, like a nickname. Othertimes, I do the "Real Fake Nam" thing too. Depends on my mood.

I love love love it! I'm trying this one.
Yea, I do the Real Fake Name thing, too. It works well enough, but I'd prefer to get a cute little smart-ass jab in like this }:D

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I say my stage name is my real name, and that I was named after my grandmother.
Ironically, my grandmother's name is tattooed on the back on my leg, and it is not my stage name. }:D

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I say "Nope!" and then grin..
Honestly I don't seem to get asked that very often, I tihnk it's more of a conversational thing rather than a real question. Then again, my dancer name is a "real" name so they seem happy with it.
When I went by Gypsy I most received a lot of laughs rather than questions.

I do this too. It works well for me also.

Re: "Is that your real name?"
My stage name is an ordinary name so I rarely get the is that your real name. When I do though, I say no, my real name is Sparkles. It usually gets a laugh. I find it's better to say something stupid to a stupid question and get a laugh rather than get angry.

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I say, "even if I told you, you wouldn't believe me anyway. You'd think I was just lying to you." That usually gets them to shut up, but if not, I give them a fake real name, and then guess what! They don't believe me!

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I usually say "of course not!" and sometimes add "I'm in my fantasy world now, I can be whoever I want!"

Re: "Is that your real name?"
Yeah my mom would really name me Moet. Crazy thing my real name is tatted on my back.

Re: "Is that your real name?"
"Well, technically it's Steve... but since I'm post-op now, I figured giving a girl's name would make customers a bit more comfortable with me..."

Actually... it's not discouraged anyone yet. :|

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I also did the "real Fake name" thing, it worked everytime.

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I pretend like I can't tell them by Fake Real Name, like I get all shy and everything and I try to get them to coax it out of me. It's a time waster and as someone said before, it makes them feel special, like they're getting a secret. I promise to tell them after we've gotten to "know each other"

Re: "Is that your real name?"
it's your right to be secretive about your real name. but, let me play devil's advocate for a second:
what do you really think a customer is going to be able to do to harm you or find out any further information about you by knowing your real first name? chances are, nothing. the way i see it, if a guy is really serious about stalking you, it doesn't matter if he knows your real first name or not. all he has to do is sit in his car and wait for you to get into yours. it's far more dangerous for someone to have your license plate number than it is your first name. not to mention, you could always be followed. just the fact that he knows where you work, what car you (or whoever brings you) drive(s), the plate # of said car, etc, is far worse, IMO.
all of that being said, i agree with the "real fake name" thing if it still bugs you.

Re: "Is that your real name?"
I have a question. Have you guys ever had someone you know come into the club and say your real name loud where everyone can hear it? Just curious.. it's something I thought about happening..
