I just want to relocate somewhere new??
Sheesh...I am so tired of the rat race of high cost of living, and rudeness no matter what. Has anyone ever just picked up and left to never come back...I have moved...but I came back (no work). I am really considering moving out of my state in the next year...not sure where.
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
I've done it twice. It is hard emotionally and financially. Although I was happy about the move both times, I almost faced bankruptcy both times. Not only was the money thing tough, the loss of having friends and family near is a double whammy.
I've lived in my current city since 2001, and only in the last year or so, have I felt "at home" here. I recommend making a temporary move and set a limit of 2-6 months to see if you'll feel okay settling down in that area. If you decide that the move isn't for you, you had already set it up to be temporary anyway.
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
Housing cost is pretty low here, but taxes are pretty high. Depending on where you live, it can get pretty cold for 5 months.
I think you need to be more specific, like the cost of what is a concern?
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
I highly recommend it if you're at an emotional dead end in your life.
I did it almost 2 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did for myself.
Move somewhere awesome! Make it work.
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
I live near the west coast...I know...but it has become tough....not the money so much..but the people, the rat race. I just had a home invasion near me and I am just sick of all of the same bad news...is it everywhere?? When I say cost of living...I remember when I moved out of state, some of my utilities were due every other month. There was NO traffic at 5PM. My insurance rates were great. My house payment was low...very low. I am basically single and paying for it all and eventually I would like to find a quiet place to live. I moved back here for family (I missed them) but honestly I still have quite a drive to see them...and they have yet to come see me...a little sad...but it is what it is...maybe I am running from more than I think..
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
Give it a shot.
i want to get out of here too. (ny)
Expensive rat race.

Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
Oh yeah!!! Just get your act together as best you can and go...seriously,you'll be amazed at what "re-inventing" yourself and life can do to improve things!
As long as you're not dodging the law or hurting anyone,go for it!
I've done it several times and improved my life each time...
Good Luck and I agree: ain't no economic downturn here in Texas!
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
Come to south carolina, cost of living is fairly low,
and the weather is pretty good too.
I've moved a couple of times since I turned 18..I always came back.
I wana go to Toronto this summer for a few months, maybe move there eventually.
I can never stay in one spot for long.
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
While you are still living where you are, try tuning out the bad news in your area. Literally. Stop watching TV or reading crime news online at all for at least a little while. Be vigilant about your surroundings and what you can control in regards to your safety but do not worry too much over what you cannot. Read your local 'events' magazines and weeklies instead and find things that seem interesting to sit in on, watch, festivals to explore, etc. If that doesn't work:
Start researching cities/states near to you which look interesting and have hobbies that you have always wanted to get into but never quite got aound to.
Try subletting or renting an econo-suites type of place for a few weeks in the new area and start exploring. You may even want to try a site like couch-surfing or sites where you can swap your lodgings with someone in a city that has always appealed to you.
Listen to positive uplifting songs that put a smile on your face. Seek out genres of music that you don't tend to listen to and find new artists that make you feel good.
Write a list of big goals you'd like to accomplish and from there work on the smaller details and check off little by little what you do to get you closer to where you want to be.
You know the saying, "Everywhere you go, there you are"? It is very, very true. Just up and moving to a place is sometimes all it takes to rattle your brain a bit and help you to create the type of life you want to live. However, you can also find yourself on a virtual hamster wheel and repeating the same actions which cause you to feel disillusioned no matter where you are.
You can surround yourself with things that make you happy (just about) no matter where you are if you tap into unexplores resources and get back to what truly would make you happy in so far as things you'd like to DO as opposed to where you'd like to BE.
I moved to my favorite city on earth (outside of the US)and lived there for a few years and after moving back it took me a LONG time to get over the "Yeah, but this city is NOTHING like THAT one" mentality. I was able to experience so many new things and yes, certain cities DO hold a special something about them.
You can learn to create a little slice of (insert dream city here) wherever you are if you make a conscious effort to do so. I moved from one city in CA to another, a mere 20 miles away, and yet have since been able to create a life that is not THAT city, but is amazing in its own way and which I had to be conscious of sustaining in order to fully realize the opportunities it has afforded me.
I wish you good luck on your journey, whether it involves a plane, train, car, or simply standing still!!! ;P

Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
Thank you for all of the great advice! I look forward to just doing that ---moving Forward..
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
Now that's the right attitude! It's about moving forward not running away. With that point of view you will most likely find yourself in a much better situation when you settle down in a new area.
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
i always found www.city-data.com a good place to research, and there is forums too.
of course most of the time you have opinions of a place from each side of the spectrum. everybody likes different things. but sometimes good info that you hadnt thought about.
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
A lot of organizations offer plans where you can go overseas and teach for a year. I know this is a bit extreme and usually they require a degree of some sort, but if you're feeling crazy it could be something to consider.

Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
Im doing this at the end of Jan. Packing up and moving across the country
Re: I just want to relocate somewhere new??
I'm from the east coast, but moved to the west coast and I loved it, but couldn't stay due to cost of living. It got to the point where I was so stressed out, trying to go to school and work....everything was so expensive. I had a job making $20-25 an hour and never got to really enjoy my money. I loved the beach, the weather, the people, just the whole west coast lifestyle in general. I hated to leave southern California but it got to the point where I just got so pissed off/stressed out all the time....I had a bit of a breakdown.
Tucson is where I live now and it's pretty cool. It's not a big city but not a super small town either. Lots of culture, CHEAP rent and utilities, and lower cost of living all around. Plus, if I need my west coast fix it's only a 45 min flight away.
Me and the hubby picked up and moved here on a whim. Didn't think much about it, just did it.
