glucosamine? & question for retired dancers
Hey ladies. I have been reading some of your posts about glucosamine helping knee pain. I was wondering about the dosage though. How much of it do you take daily?
Also, for those of you who are retired from dancing...if you had knee pain or other aches/pains from dancing, did it heal itself once you stopped dancing? Is there any hope or am i doomed to have this chronic knee pain?
thanks girls:)
Re: glucosamine? & question for retired dancers
Everyone's different. I've known a girl that has danced for 4 years (and still going strong) who has had fluid drained from her knees several times. She recommended glucosamine and chondrin together to help your body rebuild the cartilage. It helped her and I felt it help me within the first week of taking it.
The pills never worked for me but a liquid form does. I can't find it where I live now but the kind I used to take back home came in a colorful 20 oz bottle in the pharmacy section at Hannaford.
Look for something with at least 1500 mg of glucosamine per dosage and between 100-150 mg of chondrin.
And, I also knew an older dancer who took 5 types of asprin/ anti-inflammatory pills every night. That worked for her....
Re: glucosamine? & question for retired dancers
I have knee pains when I run/jog and had it when I danced. So I still have problems when I run but other than that I feel better throughout the day than I used to. Old school warmup but try standing a couple inches apart, act like you are sitting on a chair, put your hands on your knees, and rotate your legs around.
Re: glucosamine? & question for retired dancers
The things we do to our bodies today will inevitably effect us tomorrow.
I take Glucosamine w/ MSM, or just Glucosamine, whatever I can find. I go to Wal-mart. The bottle recommends 3 pills a day, but I take 1 with breakfast. It takes care of any pain, and later, if I need to, I can always up the dosage.

Take Fish Oil. Cheaper and does the same thing.
Re: glucosamine? & question for retired dancers
I want to suggest weight lifting and using the stairmaster. I've taken Glucosamine in various forms in the past but, nothing seems to keep my knee under control like training with weights and the stairmaster. I have a torn miniscus and broken fragments in one of my knees. I've refused surgery because everyone who's had it done either had to retire of had to have even more surgeries. I second the fish oils, I've used them in the past and they do help alot.
Re: glucosamine? & question for retired dancers
I absolutely 100% swear by cod liver oil capsules. I've danced for 5 years now and without them I think I would have retired after my first year!
Hope this helps!
