Have you ever had another dancer steal your name? Did it piss you off, or do you think imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?
I haven't had that per say. However I was hired at a place where a girl had a very similar name and the DJ basically refused to put me on rotation until I picked a new name. I went to the manager and told him that my name was the only name I use, EVER, and he can either keep me and let me use it or I would leave. Needless to say I worked there for quite awhile.
I think picking a name and being consistent is part of the key to people seeing you as a reliable professional.
i've never had a dancer steal my name... because the managers don't let girls repeat a name.. Like if they already have a Sarah, they won't let a new girl pick Sarah as their name.
If I go to a new club, and Veronica is already taken then I just pick another name.
I haven't had this happen, but I would be SUPER unhappy about it. Your name is linked to your persona. For me, I get into character for work. I stop being me and start being Ava. If some other broad came in and tried to take that away, or some how dilute that, I would be livid. Not to mention guys are dumb, and that would probably be way to much work for them to figure out;)
Immitation is the best form of flattery. Whenever I've switched clubs (in the past) I've renamed myself after someone I admired at my old club. For me new club=new start and names and I typically am drawn to names of people I've admired.
^^ See, I disagree. It makes me SUPER annoyed when someone imitates me. Just tell me you think I'm cool. ;)
I've had dancers try, but in the club I dance at they have a 50 page list of names already taken so you can't choose one that another dancer has already.
OMG yes. I was working in Vegas on the weekends and I didnīt go for a couple weeks then when I got back I walked in The Rhino with my friend Alyssa and the bouncer addresses her "hey veronica!"
My own friend stole my name when I was away. I was actually really irritated because I have been that for years. But the best park is her real last name is Hooker. YES HOOKER.
I donīt even want to be Veronica anymore but Iīve got it on lockdown at my 3 clubs and I refuse to give it up to have some new girl come in and take it. I am pathetic.
A dancer once stole my name. The conniving bitch didn't go on stage with it. She tried to convince my customer that she was me. He refused to believe her and even told her that she didn't sound like me or walk like me. It pissed me off that the low down skank would be desperate enough to try stealing my money and my customer. I told the manager but that greaseball didn't do anything about it because all he cared about anyway was $$$$.
I dance by Fantasia and some chick danced by Fantasy. Blond hair but no ass, big belly and wasn't even remotely pretty. She even tried to copy my dancing style move for move. Grrr.... She didn't last long.
There are girls at my club that change their names every month. I don't see the point, but whatever. Then, I've known girls who have left for a few weeks and come back to their names being taken, no fair. I think our managers push newbies toward certain names just to be spiteful because they know which girls are floaters and they will eventually come back to work. I think they're trying to send a message to these girls about their lack of loyalty.
For me, my name was never apart of the club's list of names and if I should ever leave, my name should leave with me. There's a few dancer turned trainers at my club that have put their names on the hands off list. So, if they can do it for them, they sure as hell better do it for me. Fair is fair.
What's in name? Everything, but it depends on who you ask.
Mia was mine originally... but then i decided i needed something new
and one of the dancers at one of my old clubs in pittsburgh had the name "Deja".... for some reason it really really stuck with me.... and i assumed it was for a reason..
so i dance under Deja now...
i mean, i'm in another state... i doubt she knows.... and suprisingly.. deja isn't as popular of a stripper name as i thought
i'd be livid if someone stole my name at the club I work at now but i don't think thats going to happen cause they don't care for real name stripper names...if i had to swicth clubs and change my name cause it was taken I'd be kinda mad because I've grow accustomed to it but i'd get over it.
You guys can trademark a stage name if its that much of an issue. I do it for pornstars all the time.
It really helps if you ever want to have a website or to feature dance.

I'm not very attached to my stage name and wouldn't care if someone used it if I quit dancing or moved, but someone deliberately trying to go by the same name in the same city is a definite no. It's not that it's that hard to come up with a different name, but people shouldn't just take things you're using. And if another dancer steals my name, I'm not going to be the one to make the switch.
A girl i used to dance with went to house mom at a brand new club and recruited a load of newbie dancers and gave them the names of all the girls at the club she'd been dancing at - i thought that was a bit weird, but i did see it as flattery i suppose, taking all of names made us feel iconic!
