White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
So what do you think of this nonsense:
Typical Democrat hypocrisy?
More info:
(CNN) — Senate Democratic leaders think Roland Burris, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's pick to fill President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat, will likely show up on Capitol Hill Tuesday for the opening day of Congress, according to a Democratic aide familiar with Senate Democratic leaders' plans.
They have prepared a contingency plan in case he does, the aide added.
Burris will not be allowed on the Senate floor, according to this aide and a Senate Democratic leadership aide.
The aide familiar with Senate Democratic leaders' plans said if Burris tries to enter the Senate chamber, the Senate doorkeeper will stop Burris. If Burris were to persist, either trying to force his way onto the Senate floor or refusing to leave and causing a scene, U.S. Capitol Police would stop him, said the aide.

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
Your adding race into this is uncalled for and not a proper reflection of what is actually going on in the Burris situation and the rest of Congress. Race has absolutely nothing to do with their objections of Burris and trying to say it does is a rather dishonest and a blatant attempt to create racism in a situation where it does not currently exist.

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
This whole situation can only reflect badly on Blagojevich, not any other elected official. Somehow, I doubt that Blagojevich would have considered Burris for the senate seat unless he knew that it would upset people.
And Blagojevich appears to have upset a lot of people via his senate appointment. Mission accomplished?

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
I just find it interesting that a black man who has actually run in political races, been elected to an office, and keeps up with the political issues has a bunch of trouble; compared to the seating of a Lilly white wealthy socialite from a politically connected family whom hasn't even been voting as a citizen.
It'll be interesting to see this man thrown down the capital steps with a boot in his ass.
It's all for the better I suppose, as these elites know what is best for all of us!

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
Highest office that Burris has been elected to is Comptroller of Illinois. He has lost every other race he has been in, so he isn't exactly a favorite with the people of Illinois.
He is a good choice for stirring the pot. He has a reputation for rocking the boat, politically.

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
as long as we're on the subject, the very high probability of having uber-rich and totally inexperienced / unqualified Caroline Kennedy appointed to be my next senator simply reassures me that I'm making the appropriate decision in getting the hell out of New York ! Of course, we're being told that there isn't any sort of double standard in regard to calling Sarah Palin unqualified for the position of vice-president by the same people who are now telling us that Caroline Kennedy is fully qualified to be a US senator !
In regard to republicans and Blago / Burris supporters raising the 'race' card re 50+ rich, white, democratic senators pledging to prevent the 'black guy' from being seated among them. Again we are being told that there isn't any sort of double standard in regard to Burris being rejected on grounds of being irretrievably 'tainted' by Chicago politics by the very same people who previously told us that Obama somehow escaped such 'taint' ... despite Obama's alleged sweetheart deal on his Chicago mansion courtesy of Tony Rezko, despite Obama being neck-deep in Illinois democratic politics / fundraising for the past decade etc. From a legal standpoint, Blago like Obama has yet to be convicted of any legal wrongdoing !!!
It will be a relief to view this sort of stuff from afar ... and without personal consequences ... thus able to laugh at the absurdity of it all ... very soon !

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
This is not about race at all. I don't even see how it could be construed that way. His appointment by Blago has raised quite a few eyebrows because of the shit surrounding Blago, not because of Burris' race.
And Caroline Kennedy has no business being a senator just like Sarah Palin had no business being VP.
Melonie, what the heck are you still doing here? You're supposed to be living it up tax free on a tropical island sipping pina coladas and being rubbed down by hot cabanna boys!

She's got plenty of time before Obama trys to ruin things by raising taxes, maybe years if he puts it off...

There is a HUGE difference in the amount of responsibility the President of the United States has vs. the amount of responsibility a US Senator has. The VP can become the President of the United States at a moment's notice. I doubt Palin's experience, or lack of it, would have been an issue if she ran for Alaska's Senator instead of VP.

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
I think Christopher Hitchen's describes Palin's nomination for VP best:
This is what the Republican Party has done to us this year: It has placed within reach of the Oval Office a woman who is a religious fanatic and a proud, boastful ignoramus. Those who despise science and learning are not anti-elitist. They are morally and intellectually slothful people who are secretly envious of the educated and the cultured.

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
Interesting bit of news on the TV.
Apparently Reid said no to every black person listed on a potential replacement senator list.
Tomorrow the entertainment begins anew!

Hmm. Something tells me you are just making that up.
I haven't heard that and I listened to the news most of the day yesterday. Plus I am watching the Burris stuff in D.C. live right this minute and not a single mention of what you just claimed.
If it were true it would be a big deal on the news this morning and so far nada has been said about it.
What news channel or show did you get that from? Happen to have any links to prove it by chance?

I don't give a fuck about proving shit to you. But if you want to go looking, I am sure it is on the CNN site someplace or just google "reid black replacement" - I am sure plenty of "liars" out there will point out the "truth."

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
The "source" of this claim is Blogejevich himself. It was referenced during Reid's appearance on NBC's Meet The Press, and Reid said he was making it up and that the tapped phone calls would prove it (whether this particular call was recorded or not, wasn't confirmed).

Thanks for the info Ernie. Must have been a small story as being the news buff that I am this one never even made it on my radar. Then again I missed the latest Meet the Press so that could have been it as well.

Ooh, I hit a nerve, lol!

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
Seems Burris doesn't agree with Deogol about Reid being racist. In his press conference today Burris spoke about how much he and Reid had in common and how in his meeting with Reid today it was like talking with an old friend. Burris seemed very pleased with todays events.
Guess that blows the whole Reid was trying to hold black people down theory out the window. Just as I suspected too :)

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
Did he or did he not say no to all blacks presented as possible replacements?
Is the senate not blindingly white?
One would think that for a bunch of people who like to legislate political correctness, they would at least follow their own advice - especially when it comes to legally appointed senators.

Not really. Don't overly congratulate yourself. Maybe if more people went out searching for the information, they might learn more about what is going on.

Oh jeez. I miss one small news blip and now I'm accused of knowing nothing of what is happening on the world. So no true but whatever. If it makes you feel better about being wrong then so be it.

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
Blago picked Burris in large part because he knew the race card would be pulled and it would cause a lot more controversy. Another reason was because Blago knows he will be facing a jury before too long and he is trying to gain favor with potental black jurors. The race card was pulled by Bobby Rush, a member of the House. He beat Obama in a previous election, is a former member of the black panthers street gang, he ALWAYS plays racial politics and has very little time left as he is dying of cancer. Rush had nothing to lose and everything to gain by putting race out there in the forefront. The race card has been furthered by Burrises legal advisors, but never him, he plays the good cop. I don't understand why it isn't getting more mention, but there is a connection from Burrises business partner to Blagos wife through a 80K job she she received but has no backround to explain why she has the job. Burris should not be seated until that connection has been investigated.

Re: White senate leadership rally to keep black senator out of Congress
They did not object to Burris because he is black, they stopped objecting to him because he is black.

This ERROR is a typical one when one tries to paint everything in political-party colors.
