I haven't read her book, but based on the quotes I've read, she does directly attack single moms. One of her chapters is called, "Victim of a Crime? Thank a Single Mother". How much more direct does she need to be?
As to single mothers being responsible for children growing up in poverty, ending up on drugs or in prison, there are many other factors involved. Whether or not a child grows up in poverty has more to do with how rich or poor the child's parent's are, not whether or not the mother is single. It just so happens that many single mothers are poor to begin with, before they become single mothers. For middle and upper class women who become single mothers, it's much less likely their children will grow up in poverty. Regardless of whether or not Bristol Palin decides to marry her child's father, it's very unlikely her son will grow up in poverty.
What I find most ironic, is that while conservatives like Ann Coulter attack single mothers and blame them for society's problems, they're the ones who support policies which result in more girls/women becoming single mothers. They want to outlaw abortion and they fight against providing education about, and access to contraception. One of the biggest factors as to whether or not a child grows up to be a criminal is whether or not the child is wanted by his or her parents. That is why there was such a significant drop in the crime rate 15-20 years after abortions became legal throughout the US.
