Getting Motivated
I have an idea, because I'm in one of my moods, and feel like sharing it ;D
What's something that you have been meaning to do, that you've been talking about for awhile, that you just haven't gotten around to? It doesn't have to be money related, though realistically most things in this world involve $$. Something like...I don't know...cleaning out your spare room and furnishing it, or painting your walls, or taking a class at the community center. Let's all name something that you've been meaning to do, and maybe this thread will get us motivated enough to fucking DO IT.
For my part, I want to buy and install an X-pole and finally start teaching myself the tricks I've been meaning to learn for a year. And, second, I want to teach myself French with that Rosetta Stone program. So, dammit, I'm going to save up my next few shifts and get to it.
How about you?

Re: Getting Motivated
This thread is awesome! I was just thinking earlier about how there's some things that I just have no motivation to do, even though they're not bad things. I mostly put it down to not having anyone checking up on it. If I don't wanna do something, nobody will call me out and kick my ass into doing it!! I have to:
* Start seriously looking for a post-grad job
* Read a book my professor lent me ages ago, and probably think I've lost now since she hasn't seen it in so long
* Get a steady dancing schedule. It's so easy not to go in when I'm thinking "meh, plenty days left in the week!" Then Friday rolls around /:O
* I have german homework that doesn't have a deadline, so it's been sitting on my desk looking boring for almost 3 months now
* Organize my food cupboard. Seriously, you open the door and get attacked by falling pasta boxes. Meanwhile, I'm buying things that I may or may not have 3 of already, but can't get to!
* Also, semester-long extra credit opportunities that I will leave to the last minute and then regret not finishing them on time
Damn....tomorrow I'm doing a few of these! :P

Re: Getting Motivated
What works for me is to write it down ahead of time. Thus I might write down a week's worth of jobs:
Monday
Write letter to X.
Tuesday
Paint ceiling in spare room
Etc...
I find if I've written it down, when that day comes around, I feel I have to get that item finished and crossed off the list. If I don't write it down, I'm a bit like the OP - it's too easy to put off jobs until the next day.
