I worked through the best dancers agency back in 2003 and end up in an awful club in Guam, living in an apartment with an insane lady who cut up one of the dancers clothes and would lock us out on a regular basis. Oh, and I got drugged in the club because you earned most your money from drinking. I woke up in a strange bed with no recollection of the night before--and somehow still had my clothes on, thank God. Janet doesn't care. She's just out to make money. Once she's got her fee from a club, she won't be there to help.
There is a best dancers Australia agency is it that the one you mean, the guy's name is Justin, if not may be hijacking the thread but has on that note has anyone worked through him? Any info appreciated. PM me if you prefer.
Thanks for replying girls, omg Hayley that sounds awful. It's the agency in usa. :)
You may want to do a search. There were some posts a couple of years ago, with a dancer also complaining about her Guam experience.
I've never worked with The Best Dancers, so I can't say for sure. the agency I work for books some clubs in Montana, and I could get some info on those clubs if you are thinking of traveling.
I swear I thought I posted a response to this! I know the agency has been around a long time, at least since the late nineties. The above is the first time I've heard complaints about it. Hayley, did your report what happened to you to the authorities?
Dayna is correct, my experiences were with Janet's agency "The Best Dancers" in the USA. I have also danced in Melbourne, but you don't need an agent to book you into any clubs here. There are many clubs that are hiring all the time in Melbourne--and many traveling dancers will stay at backpackers (i.e. King St Backpackers) to save money. You also don't need an agent to book in at New Zealand clubs such as Showgirls in Auckland, which sometimes offers free dancer accomidation in exchange for working 5 shifts/week. You just need to speak to dance managers and ask what they recommend. Forget agents who just want $$$ for booking you, and are not there to help when you run into trouble. Also, it's always a good idea to travel and dance with a trusted friend so you can watch each others backs.
