New and interested in stripping
Hello ... I guess this is one recession proof line of work so there lies my interest. I am cute but not totally hot. I am 18 but I have youngish looks. I can be shy. I have no experience. With all that said, I am not the best dancer in the world either so I guess I am seeking sort of a dive kind of place to learn in and a place where the emphasis is more on me interacting with customers instead of just dancing on a stage. I am not sure how to find such a place let alone how to approach for a job. Any information would be helpful. I am from NJ but I am willing to travel for work.

Well, I wouldn't say dancing is 100% recession proof...see this thread for further elaboration:

To find your ideal club, just start by checking clubs out as a customer and seeing which ones feel like a good fit to you. When you're ready to start working, just call the club or go in person to talk to a manager and tell them you want to audition. Bring an outfit and heels. Auditions range from doing a set on stage to letting the manager look at you in a thong. Or you might not have to do anything! The first club I worked at looked at me in my street clothes and then gave me paperwork.
Good luck, and be sure to read the forums religiously. A lot of valuable information can be found here.

yikes i dont know if i can put on an audition just for a manager .. is there a chance i can get a tryout just interacting with customers?
Re: New and interested in stripping
What Whinged Dinghy means is that the manager may just take a look at you in your outfit to decide whether or not you can work. You don't do anything but stand there.
Otherwise, you'll be auditioning, which happens when the club is open. You just have to go up on stage for 2-3 songs, dance, and interact with whatever customers are at the stage the way you would if you worked there.
Re: New and interested in stripping
i'm in a similar situation in the sense that i have no experience and am by no means an exceptional dancer, lol. i'm also all right looks wise, but not hot enough to get by on that alone. I'm going to start off waitressing so i can watch the girls dance, learn how the club works etc. from what i hear it's alot about how you entertain the customer and make him/her feel, so i'm going to play the friendly and accessible card, smiling, eye contact, striking up conversation etc. hopefully that will put the customers at ease and make them want to spend time, thus $$$$ on me. anyways, good luck and update your thread! i'm curious!
Re: New and interested in stripping
^^ This is what I did. I bartended for a while, and made the switch to dancing when I felt ready. Not only did it work, but I started as a dancer with a couple of regulars, from guys who would come into the club that couldn't wait to see the bartender naked!

"What's the difference between a cocktail waitress and a stripper?"
Two weeks.
I'd agree with the OP-- find yourself a nice li'l dive bar to start out in. Only do what you feel comfortable with. Every stripper starts out in your position--insecure about appearances, dancing skills, socializing skills. If you're motivated and able to learn, the business will highllight your attributes (emotional, physical, social, etc.) Read up on Stripperweb!!
