Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
It is so annoying that she always chooses women who are unable to articulate why they feel like it is ok to do what they do whether it's dancing or otherwise....then she makes them seem like pitiful voctims of low self esteem. Ok, so her mom chose to struggle and work a million jobs to support here and her brother. That's cool but some mom'schoose to work 3 nights and be there for every teacher visit, field trip, help with homework, andbethere when the kids get home from school...oh, and be able to pay for classes, good schools, etc....errrrgh And some women just choose to dance, domme, whatever because they want to. So, speaking to the choir I know but it's really irking me.

She deos have to cater to the network that carries her show & ya, I do have a beef with it......

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
Tyra, the producers, and the guests are all to blame for the portrayal. I think the sex industry is a legitimate and respectable field of work, but no one has the balls to present it that way on television.

^^^ I agree, people are quick to judge..... I live a normal life outside the SC

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
I think it has a lot to do with the ANTM legacy that she has to support. If she ever equated that models have similar strengths as strippers, or strippers could become models, there would be an uproar
-_- Tyra makes me grumpy

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
They'd rather look at us as victims instead of what we are- women making choices to do something different than the rest of society. Big deal. They just can't handle it.
My friend says they are jealous of us. I don't know if that's the case, maybe jealous of our money and freedom, or maybe of our balls to go against the grain, but most couldn't ever imagine doing what we do.. It scares the hell out of them.
Tyra DEFINITELY is biased. And you're right, she chooses those who cannot stand up for themselves so she can say what she wants. I have to admit, I still love her show, I tivo and watch every day. B/c she is a very smart woman and her shows are informative. Of course I hate when she get's so judgemental. But that's society and how most women are towards us, and everybody's different!!
It's what makes us so strong. And non judgemental. That's the part I love :)

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
I have issues with how she has acted towards our industry. I've seen interviews where she doesn't really let the other people talk or just degrades them.
I think there are a few issues here though. You need someone who is really good at speaking in front of large audiences and won't clam up when the camera is on. Tyra is just talking to whoever... she's seeking out the leaders in our industry. Typically when an industry is represented the people doing the interview look for the best, but she's not doing that. I'm not sure if that is on purpose or not.
I personally do pretty well speaking in front of groups, however I don't even bother with situations like Tyra's show. I've turned down speaking engagements where I knew the interviewer and audience was already against me. Why would I want to let them try to butcher me?
I really think the only fair way to do this would be if the interviewer gave the interviewee a list of questions in the beginning so they could prepare appropriate answers. Thinking off the top of your head can be difficult when our society is taught to only respect people and information such as dates, numbers, and statistics from reliable sources. Part of the problem with those shows is that they discredit personal experiences.

She definitely does.. She always belittles her guests... It makes me so sad for them. And they can't really stick up for themselves b/c she chooses those who are weaker and she doesn't give them the opportunity.
She has had such a charmed life though, she has NO IDEA about the things some people in the industry have been through. NO IDEA.

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
^^^ I've noticed that she has guests on that will start to stand up for themselves and all of a sudden she cuts to commercials and when the show comes back on she doesn't let them get back to what they were saying.

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
Yes! It drives me absolutely insane and I can not stand her. She acts as though we are doing something wrong. As though we are these evil creatures that need to be stamped out of existence. I'm sorry but I don't know anyone that has made more money off her body than Tyra. I seem to recall her spending a whole lot of time walking a runway practically naked with angel wings tacked on to her back. I think she needs to remember where she started..... in her underwear.

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
how different is modeling from th sex industry really? UHHH not so much!
-
Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
^ We get paid more reliably, and we're more overt about what we do. Modelling is the sex industry all dressed up in a pretty package. We all look at models for sexual reasons (whether evolutionarily/comparatively sexual or as a point of sexual interest), but society pretends we don't.

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
Shes been talked about a lot here. Her ex apparently cheated on her with a stripper or went to strip clubs a lot or something like that...and so now she has a vendetta against the whole adult industry.
She's an ignorant, self involved bitch IMO. She likes nothing better then talking about how great she is. The Soup constantly makes fun of her for it! I <3 The Soup!

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
You are right, Hustle Bunny. I hate Tyra Banks with a passion- I remember one episode about sex workers, she said to the girl "What would you say to yourself if you were 6 six years old, would you tell her how you let her down?" or some shit like that. I'm fcking sick of Tyra Banks psyco- therapy obviously read it in a magazine bullshit. I fucking hate that judgemental b!tch- she doesn't know what she's talking about and yeah- not all sex workers are victims of rape- BS. I hate her.
For some reason, people think those who are unemployed with no education, having 5-8 children and laying on their couch watching TV is much better than a stripper who makes $1000 a night, paying her way through school or whatever it is.

exactly!!!! and there's a lot more about tyra that can be annoying than the way she portrays women in the adult entertainment industry

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
You just can't believe anything you see on television. As for the women not being able to articulate, well... awhile back I did an interview about working in the sex industry. I made the statement that
"I can't get a job outside of the sex industry where I can make $1500 an hour."
They cut it down to
"I can't get a job outside of the sex industry."
They cut out all information about my education, about my military training and service, about my husband's military career, EVERYTHING. When I said that I loved only having to work a few days a month so I could spend more time with my kids, they cut out the part about my kids to make me look lazy. They turned us into inbred retards who couldn't figure out how to get a job at the local walmart. It was a hack job, and it was embarassing. It'll be a cold day in hell before I every speak with anyone honestly about my job again.
I don't believe anything on televison anymore. You just can't. They can manipulate footage and spin anything any damn way they want.

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
^ That would be infuriating. I am so sorry you had to go through that.
-
Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
Marvel Girl, I'm so sorry you experienced that!
Again, this is why I don't do media interviews. One of these days all of these people will figure that out... but it probably won't be in my lifetime.
-
Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
^ And thank goodness for that! Means more money for us!
-
Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
^^^ That's true. I worry about this industry becoming so un-taboo that no one cares about going to the clubs anymore. Heck, girls in the nightclubs get pretty raunchy these days for free!

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
Thanks ladies, I was pretty mad when it came out. But, at that time, I was really fresh in the industry. My husband and I were excrutiatingly normal and we had some debt like most people do and while our bills were paid it was hard to get ahead. The sex industry has really changed our lives. I was naive and thought perhaps I could share my experiences with others so they could do the same if they chose and have some sort of understanding of what it was like.
All I got in return was hate. At this point, however, I'm glad that they made me look so incredibly awful. There is no way in hell any woman is going to watch my footage and be inspired to do anything but exclaim "Oh that poor, uneducated, stupid hillbilly! How awful that those disgusting perverts are taking advantage of her!" The nastier it looks, the fewer women want to do it, and the more money we make.
So, I guess it worked out for the best, but I think you got it right kylea. Media interviews=bad.

Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
MarvelGirl that really sucks. They did the same when I wrote into Marie Claire..edited out so much that the original point was lost. Fuck the media.
Sasha Grey was on Tyra and Tyra was obviously PISSED that she couldnt shake her up and that she kept saying that she was in this industry by choice. Its kind of funny!
-
Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
^^^ i loved sasha grey in that episode. I watched her youtube clip talking about how they tried to make her look like a lil girl and misconstrue her words...
but, she did hold her cool very well... i think she gave the best representation of the sex industry on the tyra show thus far...
-
Re: Does Trya Bank's Portrayal of women in the sex industry bother anyone else?
For anyone intrested heres the episode with sasha grey, its about teenage prostitution and teenage pornstars. The stupid messages that keep coming up against porn that the person has put on the video are really annoying though kind of amusing, it will pause the video so you can read them but if you just press play it will play again.
Part 1

Part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYs2Y...eature=related
Part 3/4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8dIx...eature=related
And a video of sasha grey talking about being on the tyra show
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFTEo...eature=related
Tyra realy annoys me where she interrupts her and says ' i feel like im talking to a young girl, you look like a young girl, you are a young girl' when blatently sasha is not being immature or talking like a young girl, shes representing herself well , tyra is purposely trying to be patronising shes so rude erghh!
And she keeps saying 'you havent told me a deep soul reason' she just wants her to say shes been sexually abused because she cant accept she just wants to do porn. And the other girl lecturing her because she had a bad experience and how she said they made her wear a pink shirt because what she was wearing 18 year olds dont wear?? its annoying how manipulating they try to be and theres nothing anyone can do.
