It seems like every weekend I get screamed at over the phone by customers. They call me names, threaten bodily harm etc. all because they didn't plan ahead and the agency is totally booked up!
As if calling me a fucking bitch is going to help their cause? Then calling the business line a thousand times and screaming obscenities when I answer is going to make a stripper suddenly appear in their living room?
I must say that once a person turns verbally abusive, I would never, ever send them a dancer under any circumstance. If they don't give up in a few minutes, I just start forwarding their calls to the local police station }:D. We've got a pretty sophisticated phone system, and about 30 different phone numbers. All I have to do is change the call forwarding on the number they are calling, and only for about 10 minutes.
I get all kinds of crazy prank calls. Sometimes its little kids thinking it is funny, sometimes it is radio DJ's (or wannabes) doing crank-yanker style calls. It is verbally abusive calls that I just don't understand. I got one last night, and the guy was just screaming one obscenity after another. When he would pause for breath and ask me what I was going to do, I just asked him if he was done yet. Nope, he kept on yelling about what a (fill in explitive here) I was and the business was etc. This went on for about 6 minutes when he paused again. When I asked him again, "Are you done now?" He had obviously run out of steam. He shouted into the phone "Yeah, you better send out a girl or you're fuckin' going to have to deal with me!" and hung up.::)
Usually I just hang up on these folks. But I was bored, so I thought it would be amusing to see what happened if I let the person run his course this time. It was weird. I know that he was feeling upset because he dropped the ball on his friend's party and was likely being harassed by the other (drunken) party guests. Then he probably made something up to try and save face with his buddies, and then his humiliation is added to when the friends call bull shit on him. Those feeling of inadequecy and humiliation come out over the phone to whoever the next person is that says "no" to this person.
The crazy thing is that 9 times out of 10, that this is going to come from either a Houston or So. Cal area code. I don't know what it is about those areas that produces big talking bullshitters, but that is just the way it is. Last night's crazy guy was calling from a 714 area code (Orange County).
