Charlotte is super competitive but alot of fun. Check out Uptown Cabaret, Twin Peeks, and The Men's Club.
Competitive in terms of the amount of dancers or in terms of cutthroat behavior?
Both, in their own ways at different clubs. More upscale clubs, such as Uptown Cabaret, I've HEARD of as many as 40-45 girls working weekend night shifts, I've SEEN more than 25 working weekday night shifts. Smaller clubs in Charlotte, such as Babydolls, have fewer girls (but also fewer customers), and cutthroat behavior is prominent between them all. There are plenty of clubs to check out in Charlotte, I personally have been led through most of the nicer clubs by a manager before being allowed to hang out without paying cover just to check out the scene. Charlotte is surprisingly a great place for the travelling dancer (some clubs only requiring 2 shifts per week.
Also, one more tip for girls heading to Charlotte or any of the surrounding areas (Salisbury, Winston-Salem, Greensboro). There is an outstanding outfit lady running around these parts, we call her Ms Brenda and she usually has her THONGS N THINGS business card posted in dressing rooms along with when she will make her weekly or bi-weekly appearance.
Good looking out! It always looked like a beautiful city but I've only gotten to stop while on my way to Atlanta or Atlantic City.
I'm used to working with one hundred girls so it would be a treat to work with just 25-45! I love the 2 shift thing! I'm always leery of only working one club because if it doesn't work out you're fucked! I love that there is no licensing and all that jazz. I can't wait.
Does anyone know if the Wachovia tourney is bringing in plenty of golfers?
The golf tournament I'm not certain of, but watch out for the C&E gun show (I'm unsure if it has already been through Charlotte). The NASCAR races are the 'big thing' in Charlotte, girls come out of the woodworks and head to Charlotte for the Coca-cola 600. The entire city lights up with business the week of the big race.
What type of clientele does the race bring in? Is it hard to get a hotel room without booking months ahead? Because its only 3 weeks away?
I'm not sure! I worked in Vegas when they had a big race there BUT all I saw were frickin couples. They were friendly but they weren't swingers and the wives weren't bi so they didn't get any dances! There are a LOT of hotels in Charlotte so that won't be an issue. Mine is costing $200 a week! Not bad at all.
Oh cool. Are you gong to be there for the race? My friend wants me to do some research before we go about clubs and such. When is the golf tournament you were talking about? I wonder if the clubs are busy as masters and have good vip prices?
The tournament started Tuesday and Tiger is doing VERy well so far!
Yeah I saw it on tv yeaterday. Its too late to go for that. Also kentucky derby too. Maybe Ill try for the race maybe someone can tell me what type of clientele it brings?
The golf tournament definitely brought guys into the Men's Club last week but I haven't heard about other clubs. The Coca-Cola 600 qualifyers are the 21st and the race is the 24th. http://www.tickco.com/nascar_lowes_c...00_tickets.htm

Erm, Twin Peeks looks awfully small!! It's no comparison with Uptown or Men's Club.
Hey girlie are you there now? How you liking it? spill.
Yeah! I got here on Monday and the city is beautiful and the people seem really friendly. I'm still making the rounds of the clubs. It looks like the clubs are medium to small sized.
I checked out Uptown Cabaret, Men's Club, and Gold Club from 6:00-9:00. I didn't see too much going on during happy hour at any of them. I'm hoping the guys in this town come out later in the evening. I expected to see lively pretty packed rooms on a beautiful Friday afternoon but I dunno.....
Uptown Cabaret is definitely hiring but not black women right now. ::) Their parking lot is fairly small so I guess they don't get big crowds. I heard girls at Men's Club talking about their day jobs (!) and one even said she was leaving for a bartending job!! Not good. It was a beautiful place and I saw about 12-15 patrons. The girls ranged from ok to very pretty. They may be pretty strictly looking for really tight girls. I'm a curvy size 5 and the older doorlady thought I already worked there but I still didn't get in. And Gold Club has seen better days. It is the oldest of the three. The girls are very local yokel and business was not that hot given the amount of girls I saw. There were about 8 on the main floor and three at the bar.
So, dear michelle, I would recommend you try Uptown first! Although it is by the stadium and it will be months before football season, Men's Club seems to be mostly about having a few regulars who are high rollers (otherwise they wouldn't need day jobs) and Gold Club was a bit skanked out. One girl was nearly nursing a customer on the main floor and another decided to honk my boobs while I hung out! LOL No introduction just honk-honk!
oh my doesnt sound good. Try ralliegh maybe Ive heard the doll house is good?
I'm too lazy to post about yesterday's trip. I promise to get back to you later or tommorrow on it. In the meantime girlie, check this out in Asheville! http://www.xcapades.com/ Can you say ROAD TRIP! It's about $40 bucks and three hours to get there:) The dance prices are higher than the prices in Charlotte and there are bands and a good mix of music. I talked to my friend about going because she's a total rocker chick and she has nothing but good things to say about Asheville. She's down to go and I'm riding shotgun. You're welcome to come along if you're in town when we go. I'm thinking about June or July.
I visited Onyx and it was perhaps the biggest club in Charlotte but waaaaay more importantly, it was the best sized crowd I saw on Saturday night. It's conveniently located near plenty of mass transit just take the train, 60 bus or 16 to Tyvola station and walk three blocks north. Voila'! If you like booty shaking clubs then this is a good one. Just one warning, I was told that they take about half your cash in various fees.
Paper Doll looked pretty dead. Granted, I was there early in the shift but I didn't hear too much good stuff about it except for the fact that they are one of the few non-MAL clubs.
Carousel is really lame. There is no audition you just walk in and work but, get this, you'll be working for $5 a dance! Way to make a million! LOL! I'd avoid it!
Gentleman's Club is located in the back of a strip mall. They've had issues with hookers coming in and poaching customers. According to the house mom business has not picked up as expected and it did not look as busy as Onyx at the same time of night.
I thik that's all. I got a little waylaid by personal pursuits so I didn't hit Crazy Horse but if anyone wants to add their 2cents on it feel free!
You need a license to dance in Asheville, and it's $500. (I'm from Asheville) Also be warned that the economy in Asheville is NOT what it is in larger cities, granted that the economy sucks EVERYWERE, but Asheville is a smaller and lower income city. So the dances may cost more, but expect to sell less of them. Asheville is a super awesome city, but you'll have a better time visiting than dancing there!
I've been dancing in Charlotte for 2.5 years now, have worked at Twin Peeks (where I started, do NOT recommend!!), Uptown Cabaret, Crazy Horse, Gentlemen's Club, and at Gold Club now.
For those new to Charlotte, Onyx is an (almost exclusively) all black strip club. I have heard that they gouge you for your money. Don't know if it's still the same, but old manager was requiring girls to give a percentage of their total money to the club because they wanted a cut of the stage money from people "making it rain" frequently. They have metal detectors at the door, and often search cars when you park.
Carousel is a dump. I would not recommend anyone works there. I have never set foot in there, but know dancers who have been STABBED working there. And I think they do $5 dances... Last week four people were shot there- the DJ was shot 6 times and the bouncer I believe was shot also. It was all over the news and I'm sure has slowed things down considerably.
I've been at Crazy Horse for 2 years now. It's a good club to work for, it's well run, you're safe there, and it's layout is my favorite of all the MAL clubs. The stage is nice, tall poles, and the circulation works in a way that it's easy to see stage/tip/move around the room. Business was a little slow there (like it is everywhere in Charlotte lately), but I don't have bad things to say about CH.
I've been at Gold Club a few weeks because I needed a change of scenery. It's a classy club, "DJ Taco" is the best DJ in Charlotte hands down, not sure what else to say because haven't been there too long.
Anyone with any questions about Charlotte feel free to private message me!
There is no "happy hour" in NC, so there are no drink specials to try to lure customers out during the slow hours. Drink specials have to be run ALL day in NC for some reason. Stupid law! But you are right, between 6:00-9:00 the clubs will all be VERY slow here. Not sure why, but seems to not get busy until 10 or 11 pm for night shift in ANY of the MAL clubs in my experience.
Thanx for the info cocochanel! Keep it comin'.
This article has an interesting breakdown of the city and it's attitude toward dancers.

(snip)In most cities in the region -- Charlotte and Greenville, S.C., among them -- there are no license fees for exotic dancers, male or female. Crowder says that Asheville levies such a hefty charge on dancers, in part, because of what she calls the "heavy amount of follow-up" required at the clubs where the dancers work. Besides the background checks on the dancers themselves, Crowder says the Police Department must be involved in "routine inspections and investigations of those establishments. Because the ordinance is considered regulatory, police are required to make sure there are no secondary effects from this type of business."
Annarino, however, says police officers are not required to routinely inspect the clubs. "There's no requirement as to how often we ... inspect the topless clubs," he points out. "We're obligated to do background checks, by state law, on applicants who want to work topless. ... But law enforcement, per se, can't just go in routinely and check alcohol licenses and things like that."
Many topless dancers and club owners in Asheville feel the $500 license fee is really a form of punishment -- an attempt by the city to legislate morality, instead of looking at the clubs' actual impacts on the city's budget. (The fact that topless dancers can earn substantial sums of money once they receive a license -- making the fee less prohibitive, after the first year -- is beside the point, several dancers pointed out, citing other highly compensated professionals who pay no city license fees.)
And if cities like Charlotte, Fayetteville and Greenville, S.C. (where, in fact, women are allowed to dance completely nude) can afford not to charge a license fee, why is it necessary in Asheville?
Pam Taylor, crime analyst for the Greenville County Sheriff's Department, believes adult-entertainment-license fees are unnecessary, especially if they're meant to cover increased law-enforcement costs.
"When I run statistical analyses on strip clubs versus regular bars -- which I've done several times recently," she points out, "the strip clubs don't even come close to having as many calls as regular bars, at least in this county."
Taylor mentions two strip clubs (the Landing Strip and Nepal's) that are located within a several-block radius of a number of ordinary bars. "The two strip clubs had few or no calls for service within the past year," she reports, "while the other clubs, a few blocks away, had many." The only exception she mentions is a place called Godiva's, which was recently converted into a topless club. "It's in kind of a bad neighborhood, and we have lots of calls there, but we had just as many when it was a regular bar," she points out.
Taylor reports finding no correlation between increased crime rates and the presence of topless bars. "There has been absolutely no indication, in any analyses that we've done, that crime rates go up in areas where there are strip clubs," she declares.(snip)
Whoa! $500!! That is insane. I thought Atlanta was bad.
i have heard of the manager's at Trophy Club (in Asheville) paying the $500 license fee for new dancers (I don't know if it was a loan, or if they just paid for it) for several new dancers there. This was years ago, and doubtful of the likelihood of them doing this for someone who is just traveling and not planning to work long term... but I guess people shouldn't be totally dissuaded by the high licensing fee!
Charlotte is hurting because a lot of our money came from banking-- Bank of America and Wachovia... and obviously none of those guys have jobs anymore!!! $500 nights are much rarer now for clean dancers. It's disheartening for sure... I'm ready to get out of the business. The girls making the real "stripper money" in Charlotte are definitely doing A LOT of extras. Not sure how this is in the rest of the country since Charlotte is only place I have ever really danced.
I'm reviving this thread cause I work in Charlotte. Feel free to ask me anything about the clubs there!
By the way... Uptown is more like 60-75 girls on weekends and they have a rude ass house mom. Twin Peeks is so small you can't even turn around and the VIP is like a closet. You can't even sell 'time' in VIP, only dances and they take 15 bucks out of your first VIP... and it's only a 25 dollar dance!!!
Hey Harleigh Hellkat-
I'm glad you revived this thread. Like Coco, I live in Ashevilel and, thus, have to travel. Charlotte is the closest, by far (although for the last 6 months, I've been living/working in Charleston for a good chunk of the time....but that sucked big hairy balls.)
In any case, I checked out Charlotte once, and I was extremely turned off by the housemom at Uptown Caberet...I really loved the Men's Club...everything about it (the lady at the font desk and the one at the boutique were both ridiculously nice...the one at the front desk even told me I could crash at her place... the girls were sweet...)
Anyway, I need to figure out something new and I'm thinking Charlotte because it's the closest. I'll be starting school (online and then online+ school for massage therapy) and I need to be able to make some $$ on the weekends. I would love any insight you can give me. After Charleston pretty much anything would be a lot (my best night in 6 months was in the 350 range and I routinely walked out OWING money.) I'm natural- no tats- but big boobs, and I prefer upscale/talking but I'm a well-trained dancer and I can move as well. I don't do well with lots of contact- and I know it's supposed to be illegal in NC, but I know I saw SOME at TMC. I'm white and I'm open to working in a black club. (Black guys seem to like me.) I'm curvy, pretty toned, but not SUPER tight (feeling fat and bloated today...blergh). I liked the Men's Club a lot, but when I went there (what...maybe a year and a half ago?) they told me I could only work days, which won't work for me since I have to commute. However, all of the girls told me they would put me on nights, and they had had some kind of a run-in with the ABC board earlier that day and so the management was particularly on edge. I would probably prefer TMC, but I would like to know some other options in case I don't get hired or can't work nights. I worked for Rick's Cabaret in Minneapolis and they own Onyx, so I wonder if they have the same kind of fee structure (since I heard people saying they take so much...although I didn't think that was the case when I was at Rick's. They paid us as employees rather than ICs. It was unusual, but I suppose it would be nice if I sprained my ankle on the job or whatever...workmen's comp!) Anyway, I would love to know anything you (or anyone)! can tell me. Sorry for the long post...trying to be through and I ramble when tired (and I'm super-tired right now.)
Thanks!
