Re: total stripper overhaul
when i felt this way i stopped dancing, but im sure thats not the only solution. honestly you should try taking a week or two off if you can and seeing if it helps, thats what i have heard some girls do. what helps me sometimes is to buy a new outfit that i feel i look good in. i mean you said that you think you would do better if you had a tan and lost ten pounds. which is pretty easy and cheap to do. start eating better, excericisng more and get some self tanner? easier said then done....i know, but it might help you get more motivated. i know i need to lose 10 pounds nad i would feel better about myself right now. im sure some other people have better ideas about this....but the more complicated option i to get a regular job for a little just to get your mind of something else, then come back to dancing. usually when you burn out you just need to take time off to get yourself re pumped up about the job , for lack of better words. anwyays, almost all of us who have been dancing for a while have been where you are, so there should be some good suggestions for ways to deal with th thing we call burnout....
Re: total stripper overhaul
You need a vacation. Take a few days to go pamper yourself... then try something new. If you want to get yourself re-motivated about money and find new techniques for selling try signing up for DancerWealth. Sometimes you just need a tiny bit up motivation and some new tricks up your sleeve to close the sales.
Re: total stripper overhaul
I just went through the same exact thing. A little less than a month ago, a streak of really bad nights and the company of gorgeous, cut-throat, rail-thin, coked-out, extras-providing strippers demoralized me to the point that I could NOT bring myself to go back to my old club.
So since that happened, I have not stripped in the clubs. Money has been a little tighter, so I have been cutting my expenses to the bone. I have been pulling money different ways--selling old stripper clothes on ebay, doing topless housecleaning, and starting a summer teaching job. Basically, I am working full-time on rehabilitating my self-esteem and sense of my own hotness, because I know once I get that back, the hustle will follow.
I even have been taking pole dancing classes so I don't get rusty. And it helps that none of the housewives in there know what they're doing. While they're stumbling around the pole, I'm floating around it gracefully and learning more advanced tricks from the instructor. Seeing those women reminds me, "Hey! I'm a HOT STRIPPER! They can't do what I do. I've got it going on!"
Now, after a break of almost a month, I am RARING to get back to work! I am remembering all the great things about stripping: the freedom, the fun of dancing, the flexibility, the money. I scoped out a new club tonight and I'm going to start there this weekend.
I think the fact that I picked up a "real" job during my break helped me to appreciate the wonderful aspects of stripping. Real jobs suuuuuuuuck. Still, I'm going to keep it for the duration of the summer so that I don't feel desperate for money when I go in to the club. It always seems like the worse I need money, the less I make.
So that is what worked for me: a break, during which I took the steps to rebuild my confidence (for me it was pole dancing class, maybe for you it will be tanning?), a new stream of income, and a new club for when I was ready to go back to dancing.
Good luck, and remember, YOU ARE A HOT STRIPPER!!!
Re: total stripper overhaul
I hit this situation several times over the course of my dancing career. My typical answer was to figure on taking 2-3 months off. In order to make maximum use of the 'down time', I would also usually book a breast augmentation surgery or liposuction or a lip augmentation, so that when I returned I would come back with an even stronger 'game' !

What would your suggestion be for the OP, since she's close to broke?

Re: total stripper overhaul
I totally wish that I had some advice, but all I can say is that you are not alone. I'm right there, too. strings of horrible nights have me down in the dumps. I hope it gets better for all of us!
Re: total stripper overhaul
Burn out happens, where are you in Virginia? Why not work a couple of nights and at leazst make enough to go to like Myrtle Beach or Philly for a weekend and work at a club there (change of scenery?)
Re: total stripper overhaul
Shot in the dark, but here it goes...
Get a temporary job to change your frame of mind. What I mean by temporary is literally a job that only lasts the summer or even a 3-6 weeks. Find something that wouldn't totally suck for you like a personal assistant, a nanny, or go work at a theme park (your in Virginia and I know they probably aren't open during the winter months)?
I believe if you realize how difficult another working world is, you may be able to give yourself a lighter perspective on dancing? OR, you may actually put yourself in motion into a new career? Either way, you need to get out and you said you aren't making $ now so taking a low paying job may be about the same $ with a different perspective?
Next step- head to craigslist and/or monster.com and start looking to see if anything out there peaks your interest? Make sure to look everywhere before applying to anything and think all of the choices through. Also, if you are applying for a temporary job, make sure to come up with some excuse that you are only looking for a temporary or part time job! Tell them you are looking to go back to school, needing to help out your ill grandmother and only have a certain amount of time available- whatever you can come up with. You don't want to look like a broke stripper when dealing with a mom that needs a nanny! lol
Good luck!
P.S.- there is also the travel option which I know you have been thinking about. A change of atmosphere will definitely help you out!
Re: total stripper overhaul
When you feel that fustrated, get outta town. I know you don't have a car or anything, but maybe you could find another girl who wanted to go try something else and ride with her? Or get on a Greyhound and just get outta town. Dance somewhere else. Find a new scene.
Or just stop dancing because if they money is really that bad for you, then getting a "real" job should help your finances, instead of hurting them, which is usually the case. Work a normal job for awhile and realize how bad it sucks, maybe travel a bit, try out a new club, then go back. Regain your confidence and your mojo because those things ABOVE ALL ELSE are what makes you money.
Re: total stripper overhaul
Have you thought about doing bachelor parties? Many girls I know have abandoned the clubs for the parties for several reasons, not the least of which is no hustling and guaranteed income.
Re: total stripper overhaul
You could try bartending at a regular club. I did that a few years ago and it's not dancer money, but it's some money. I made more than I could have at a regular job.
