Your name? In real life vs at work?
I posted this on my blog last night and was wondering if any of you feel the same way.
I'll just copy and paste for simplicity's sake.
What name do you prefer?
This was asked to me this evening.
I had to think about it. I dance by my little sister's given name. But I danced by another name for four years. And another for six months. And Catherine isn't my given name.
I thought about it. It is alost like my identity is defined by the name I choose. 99% of the time, in Las Vegas, I am called by my sister's name. The only people who call me by my given name are my mama, my dad, my sister, my ex, the man I like, and my one or two "civilian" friends.
So what do I prefer?
I thought about it.
And I thought about it.
And I thought about it.
I don't know.
Anyone else like this? Even my dancer friends and I call eachother by our stage names when we hang out in our person time, because we are so used to it!

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I definitely prefer my real name. But I'm really sick of my stripper name anyways and need to change it. I'm having a realy hard time thinking of a new one, though.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
My stage name is ingrained in me! I've been using for a long time and have certain friends who use it. When I took all that time off I made people who were still in the industry call me by my real name which took getting used to for them. I guess it depends who it is. It's a privlege to call me by my real name,.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
Pretty much everyone except my parents & their families call me by my stage name.
-
Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I really like my stage name, and wouldn't mind it bein my real name and my mother swears she wanted to call me it but my grandmother gave me my real name instead weird.
-
Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
^That IS weird. Is that how you came up with your stage name?
Most everyone calls me my real name, even in the club, because I was a waitress, a bartender, a shot girl, a door girl... looong before I danced, so the only ones who call me my stage name are customers and new girls.
Some days I think I should just use my real name instead .. no one ever believes me anyways when I tell them it is my real name.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I know lol , A housemum gave me the name I used another one B4 but this one just stuck then I told my mother about it then she told me the story.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I'm sort of indifferent on the whole matter, honestly. I HATE my "real" name - never identified with it at all, and went through a legal name change a while back.
As far as THAT name goes, which is my real name now - I love it. Though I guess since I picked it, that makes sense. lol I also like my stage name(s) a lot; I've been through about 5 of them now, but all of them fit me and my personality pretty well.
All in all, I'd say I'm actually fonder of my current stage name.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I love my stripper name. Its unique and cute. And no, its not Audrey.
-
Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I prefer my real name when being outside the club. I don't really enjoy that name that I'm going by now and hope to change it once I start at a new club. I think it's strange to call me anything other then my birth name.
Maybe my work identity is too separate from my actual persona.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
my stripper name is a nickname i've had for years and years, so it's pretty interchangeable with my real name. i go by (and love) both of them.
-
Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I love my stage name, but it's not a regular name I could use in the everyday which kinda sucks. It would be cool if I could because it's way more special to me than my given name.
-
Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
i always hated my birth name so i had it legally changed a couple years back. of course i already had the stage name which i guess is similar to my new legal name. when i introduce myself to people in real life, i use a nickname that is also related because i had been doing that for years even before the name change. so even though i picked out my legal name, it still hasnt really grown on me completely, though it is a name i like. so i guess i like the stage name/ nickname combo.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
my real name is my stage name. i've had to go by another name one time, and i didn't like it, so i quit that club.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
How embarrasing is this? my 1st stage name was "Sugar", another girl beat me to "Cinnamon", needless to say I no longer go by it...I seem to dance by different names at different clubs, it really helps me keep things straight, as I have a little background story/info for each of my different personas. Any dancers who address me by my given name do so out of respect, and to kind of show off that they are on "real name basis" kind of the stripper version of "first name basis"

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
my friends call me by my stage name sometimes because of how i act..or if im not paying attention if they say my real name, i do when they call out paris...i guess it's because im used to a lot of people saying my name in the club but not many ppl calling out to me by my real name outside the club..
-
Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
no one at my club knows my real name. not even my manager because i dont go by my given name in real life (i use my middle name).
all the girls at my club call each other by our stage names. its weird but sometimes ill start thinking of myself as going by my stage name even out of the SC.
i use the same stage name for every customer but one of the things i love most about working at the SC is basically being a pathological liar... if guys ask me questions i just give them straight bullshit anwsers but even on the same night i'll tell one customer i got to x school and another i go to y school.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I use my real name (Steffanie/Steff/Steffie) with everyone. When I am acting wierd, or "stripper-y", my friends or hubby may tell me that Savannah (stage name) must have been bored and decided to come out and play.
IDK...lol a bit wierd I guess...

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I tell customers my real name all the time, so I really don't care. I have a stage name.. I just don't keep my real one "private". I respect others who wish to do so, I just personally don't see a point. In fact, I would have danced by my real name if the club had let me.

Your club won't let you use your real name? /:O Why not?

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
because chrys "is a boys name". nevermind that there's a charlie and a jordan. oh and, no i don't go by any longer version of my name. never have. :P
that was when i first started there though, i think by now they'd let me do it... but customers know me by mostly my stage name so it would be difficult now.

That's nuts, Chrys is not a "boys name". I have two female cousins who go by Chris, short for Christina. It's a unisex name, that's silly on your club's part.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I tell custys my real name all the time too. I have danced by it before but I prefer using a stage name... I think its interesting because guys want to know our real names, and we may dance with a girl for months or years and never ask or know her real name! Then its also funny when custys ask us if someone is there but they use her real name and we have no idea who they are talking about.

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
I actually love my real name. :) I would never use it in the club or tell it to customers, b/c I always keep every part of my real life and real self out of the club, for my sanity's sake. ;)

Re: Your name? In real life vs at work?
^i understand it more for the sake of "sanity" than i do safety. i mean, to each her own. i just don't get why girls think it's dangerous to use their first name. you drive (or are driven) to the club every day. someone can find out a lot more about you by your license plate than they can your first name. not to mention if they are really going to "stalk you" they can just try to follow you home.. or worst yet they can just hurt you inside the club. i don't think someone knowing my first name is going to be "the thing" that helps them kill/rape/stalk me.
