I'm sick of primping! (rant)
Warning incoming rant:
This might sound weird but I am sick of all the work I have to put into my body! It's hard work having to do all the time consuming grooming and exercising. I'm really fast at applying make-up, but it's just all the other stuff that seems to be so freakin' time consuming. Plus I feel like my body needs extra care because of my skin (stretch marks and mild acne), and it just seems so time consuming using all of the creams and lotions and body make-up. And it's so boring! I used to feel good like I was pampering myself but now it just seems like a daunting chore lol. I guess I'm just whining because it's late and I still haven't even started my freakin' two hour process of deep cleansing and self tanners. ::)
But on my days off I really do like being my sloppy self. I love the way I look without make-up! And I love sitting on my butt lol.

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
It IS soooo tedious. And I'm lazy and have cut my primping routing to the bare minimum. I still get so sick of it. On my days off, it's rare that I'll even shower. I've always been low maintenance, but since I became a stripper I associate primping with work.
-
Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
I'm exactly the opposite. I love that stripping gives me an excuse to indulge in all the expensive makeup, skin care products, and hair stuff. I take really good care of my skin, so that although it's pretty rare for me to wear makeup on my off days, my skin always looks really good, and I feel good about myself.
-
Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
Haha I feel like it's a privilege to not shower. I still try and force myself everyday because even skipping one day can give me a pimple. And for some reason I don't get pimples on my face, I get them on my chest and butt! Are you kidding me, for a stripper that's much worse than pimples on the face! I'm pretty low maintenance, too. Although the maintenance level has definitely risen over the past year. I'm still a gutter punk at heart.

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
I guess there is a fine line between some primping and pampering. Like I love pedicures, and that could be considered both. I do love getting my hair and nails done. I suppose when I have someone else do it I'm ok with it. Anyone wanna rub lotion all over me!? Hahaha.
-
Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
for me, the worst part is it's taken the fun of out make-up. i used to only use a lot of make-up when i "went out". my day-to-day make-up was really light. now because i HAVE to do it for work every day it's not as much of a "thing" to get dressed up on the weekend.
-
Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
i see it as a huge chore to fix my hair up and apply self tanning lotion. the make up not so much. i also dont particularly like going to the nail salon to get my nails/ toenail done, though i do like how pretty they look. and yeah, on my days off i dont do much showering and if i do just a really quick one, for sure no shaving.

I got a huuuuge pimple on my nipple. D: Yeah.. that's a bad image. Imagine trying to cover that sucker up!
I'm bad at primping. I never wear make-up normally, nor do I own any stuff like that. I have some foundation I bought for stripping, for under my eyes and whatnot. And, my hair's so crappy, no matter if I hairspray it, it's all wild and stringy within a few hours. :( Additionally, the club's dark, so I'm like, "Mehh. Why start wearing make-up now?!" My skin's sensitive, and it'll break out anyway. I guess I'm going for the au natural, hippie vibe. :D
But hot damn, do I hate those creepy, weird pimples that will randomly show up. LIKE ON A NIPPLE. THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN.
And yes, I shower. :D Daily!

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
Im not finding it so bad now the weather is warm. I can wander around in the buff letting my self tanner dry, I can take ages putting it on too. But in Winter its a nightmare, my house is cold and I just wanna run into bed after a hot bath, not stand up in the cold, naked, putting cold tanner on.
I tried rocking the pale look all last month...............coudnt do it well, Im blotchy.
Iv found my hair routine now, so thats all good. Found the right shampoo and conditioner, and if I wash it and go to bed with it wet then all I have to do is curl or straighten it int he morning, which takes 10 mins.
I used to hate the daily make up crap, but Iv found a mineral base now which takes 5 mins and stays all day, so thats done.
Hate nails tho, its sooo tedious to take colour off, and not very exciting putting it on either.
Used to go get my nails and tan done when I was dancing, but it was just too much sociolising for me, Id been doing that at the club ffs, dont wanna have to do it back home too. *cheeks hurt from fake smiling*

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
OOhe some times I hate all the routines too, If I get a spot I freak, Im always watchin what I eat so that my stomach stays flat, I'd ideally be a bit bigger if I wasn't a dancer but need to look trim for work, the hair the nails argh sometimes I just wanna break.

AMEN!!! It's really becoming a pain in the ass anymore.

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
i mind the shaving...my skin is sensitive, and shaving 2-3 days in a row hurts. And working out 6 days a week...blech. I could do without that. The rest, not so much. I don't use self tanner or tan (i LIKE pale, and it works for me), so no biggie. And I love makeup, heavy or light, so that's not a problem.

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
I'm 6 of one, half dozen of the other. On one hand, I do like that this job gives me a reason to buy all kinds of good stuff...hair, makeup, pretty things...mani's and pedi's and such.
But then there's also the times that we're getting ready to go out and I'm like, "ugh..." it's such a chore to do my hair and makeup. So now my hubby says he likes seeing me in my shorts and t-shirt, with no makeup and a ponytail, since he is the only one who gets to see me in my "comfies", and everyone else sees me all dolled up.
Man, the crap this job does to us! But, my favorite thing is that all the pretty stuff...is a business expense! How many other women can say that?? For them it's an indulgence, for many of us, it's a necessary business expense. :D

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
I ditto that, granted I love the end result, but it is a chore. The hours and money spent : waxing, tanning, gym, nails, hair, shaving my legs every day. I'm waiting for someone to invent the Jetson's hair/makeup machine.

That really sucks! I've never gotten one on my nipple but I get them on my butt no matter what I do. Like you, I shower daily (with the exception of maybe once or twice a week depending on activity level) and I still get the suckers. I've tried all sorts of crap. All the time. The thing that seemed to work the best, and I shall try again, was the head and shoulders trick. I think I read it somewhere here actually, that head and shoulders rubbed on your bum is good at treating and preventing butt pimples. I remember it taking a bit to start working, and I had to do it religiously, but I remember it clearing up the best it ever did. I just suck at consistency lol. But I really should try that stuff again. It's super cheap compared to all the damn acne stuff I've been trying. I should probably just save up for a dermatologist instead of wasting all of my money doing trial and error. One thing I haven't tried is an aspirin mask... *shrug* Good luck with your nipple pimple! That must hurt :(

Man oh man I know what you mean. My skin is uber sensitive and the deodorant trick works great for my kitty, but my thighs always get the red bumpies. Even my armpits get them if I don't remember to put deodorant on directly after the shower. Of course I just ran out of moisturizing lotion and forgot to pick it up, so my legs are going to be itchy today lol.
I love the pale look too but my skin is just too bad to pull it off. My stretch marks are like super shiny when I'm pale. The tanning lotion doesn't necessarily *hide* them but it at least takes some of the shine and discoloration down. I LOVE dermablend but it's a bit expensive and tedious lol. I'd almost rather deal with people seeing stretch marks than have to add another long and tedious routine of body makeup. But trust me if I didn't have stretch marks I would be rocking the pale look too.
I do love face make-up however and that seems to take me only a few minutes to put on. I got used to putting on elaborate make-up really fast when I was a teen, so that's nice.

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
I do skip out some on my hair. I probably shouldn't... I don't know if it's just because *I* think it looks good enough or if it is really good enough just air dryed and brushed. I straighten it occationally when I feel really fancy, and it looks good, but I've almost always just let it air dry, brush and go. Sometimes it's a little frizzy and I'll just wear a pony tail. Damn, now I'm worried I don't do enough with my hair lol. IT NEVER ENDS!!!!! >.<

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
Most people would think I'm crazy to say that I'm tired of all the self care that goes into looking fabulous. Like when I have to skip a lunch out with friends because I have to go to the salon or day spa. Their usual reaction is something like: "Oh, aren't you lucky to be getting a facial/waxing/ nails/ pedi etc. "
Uh, no I'm not. I HAVE TO GO. It isn't really optional to look like cave woman when you work as a stripper. Try convincing the IRS that a brazilian wax is indeed a business expense, go ahead, I dare you!
Then there is the at home routine that is necessary to stay looking great by dieting, exercise, tons of self tanner and moisturizer. Just maintaining a great look is a full time job all by itself. We aren't celebs, but we have to maintain a beauty routine as if we were. Blech!:P
Then some asshole has the nerve to say to me "So what do you do all day, anyway?"

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
I get so sick of it too. During the school months when I work a lot less I definately start letting some stuff slip. For example, I let the tan fade. What always amazes me when I walk around campus is the number of female students who always have a perfect tan / make up / co-ordinated outfits. I figure that maybe their parents are paying their way through school; I'm usually so swamped with homework that I'm lucky if I can make it in to work one night a week.
Although sometimes I do wonder how much of the stuff that we do for our looks in the club actually makes much of a difference. I know a girl who hardly does any make-up and does nothing with her hair, and says she makes the same money on days when she really dolls herself up. Maybe all that stuff does is increase our confidence, and that's what leads to more sales for some girls.

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
Did you ever try just using face wash on butt-acne? Acne on the bum is usually the result of bacteria and we are prone to it by sitting is scuzy chairs, the scuzy stages, guys hands, skimpy outfits leaving the arse exposed, etc. I used to get them too but now I wash my butt just like I do my face and haven't gotten one in years. An acne medication may treat a pimple but won't prevent them. Just a suggestion, you may have already done this.

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
^^ I've noticed that it does help A LOT, especially if I do it twice a day. But I still seem to get these rogue butt pimples probably once a month. And it will last up to a week or even more sometimes. It's usually only one at a time. I think that sometimes I can pinpoint exactly why it happened, but other times I wonder if it's something I should go see a dermatologist for. It's been happening since I was about 17. I am on the computer a lot and I wonder if just sitting on the computer chair is the culprit? I wear clean pants everyday, though, so I'm just not sure lol.

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
I hate primping too. It's at the point now I only shower on days I work, because I am so done with the whole deep cleansing, exfoliating, shaving, moisturizing, plucking, tanning, painting, blow drying, straightening, routine. On days I don't work, I wear no makeup, my hair is crazy and my legs are unshaved and I LIKE IT!

Re: I'm sick of primping! (rant)
If you have body acne and face acne it very well could be becuase of your soap. That caused my acne. I got rid of it by not using soap any more. Now if i shower i just exfoliate, it scrubs off all the smell anyways and softens ur skin. And If i need something soap-like I use baking soda. Baking soda will clear up ur acne. I only wash my face with baking soda. Now I dont have any acne. Plus its cheap. U wont have to buy loads and loads of different products that take up shit loads of space. I also wash my hair separately when I shower so that shampoo and conditioner wont run down my body. Its really simple things like that that make the biggest difference. cut down on the chemicals u put on ur body. :)
