Re: Advice on amateur night
Bring a LOT of your friends to clap for you. That is your best bet to win.
Seriously.

Anyhow, amateur nights tend to be rigged and either the manager has usually already decided or it's whomever brings the most friends who make noise.
Dance your heart out, but just know that the contests are often rigged.

Re: Advice on amateur night
I don't know which club you are going to go to but, as mentioned, much of the time amatuer night is rigged. Most of the dancers are NOT amateurs at all but girls who are either moonlighting from other clubs or auditioning for a job.
If I had to choose I would say that pole work may get you somewhere, floor work probably will not. Again, it depends on which club you are going to but the best thing you can do is bring a lot of friends to make some noise and understand going in that the whole "amateur" part is pretty much a joke.

Look your best; to me that is girl next door. Not heavy makeup, string bikini, shy but willing.
