Cell phones blocked in clubs
I was wondering how you would feel about blocking cell signals in the club you work in? I was thinking that customers can and do take photos in the club even though it is against the rules and there are usually signs all over that say "No photography" or something to that effect.
I know it would be annoying to not be able to use your phone while on the floor, but I think maybe it might be a nice trade-off to know that the customers won't be able to use theirs either. It would double benefit dancers because the customer won't be able to steal and upload photos before the bouncer can stop him and he won't be sitting there sending text messages (or pretend to) and take up space. He'd have to be there for the show and not just to warm a bench, so to speak.
Of course there would have to be areas where cell usage would be available--such as the dressing room and business offices-- but blocking cell phones on the floor could definately be a boon to dancers.
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
customers are already not allowed to use their phones at my club. At the clubs I travel to, they are required to check them in at the door. As entertainers we are not allowed to use our phones anywhere on the floor at any club I work at, both the local, and the ones I travel to.
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
^^^ also, jamming cell phone transmissions would not prevent cell phones from capturing and storing digital images in the memory of the phone itself.
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
I support blocking signal on the floor completely. I have threatened to break several phones in my day when catching customers tryin to take pictures. Plus I hate those assholes who sit around testing everyone at the club. It's extremely rude IMO. My old club had a no phone rule but it was never enforced. :(. Defnitely needs to be signal in the DR though.
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
We're not allowed to have our phones on the floor anyway. Im all for the idea of blocking the signal on the floor. There is nothing worse than having a guy sitting at the stage texting the entire time not paying any attention to the girls on stage. Im sorry, there's nothing so important that you HAVE to sit there on your damn phone. If you need to make a call go outside. It's like talking through a play. It's rude and obnoxious. I also DO NOT like the fact that they can covertly take our pics. This would totally take care of the problem and I'd support it in my club 100%.
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
I would only want cell phone usage so guys could call their credit card companies when they have problems... I don't really like the idea of them going outside or away from the club.
Like Melonie said blocking signal wouldnt stop custys from being able to take pics, but it would weed out the annoying texters and I think it would also keep dancers more motivated and focused.

Damn that is a fucking brillant idea.
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
woa, i would totally not be down. guys many times still need to be in touch for business, or their wives! or other guys coming to meet up with them. i don't think it needs to get as extreme as blocking the signal. if picture taking is a major problem, then maybe check them at the door, but i would think it would make guys less likely to go back. actually my ex who would drop thousands in the clubs with his brother didn't walk into a club when they asked to collect his phone. he texts all the time, bc he owns his business and employees have questions. i think its mostly up to management and bouncers. anytime we think a guy is possibly taking a picture a huge bouncer is on him in a second looking through his phone and deleting any pics. i understand it might be hard to control in some clubs, but i also think it would detract business. esp if one club has them blocked but another doesn't, i'd certainly go to the one where my contacts can still reach me.
besides, aren't most clubs pretty dark and the guys obviously aren't using a flash.
i'd think just making sure that phones don't come above the table and stay pointed towards the man's lap or floor while texting, there shouldn't be an issue with pictures.

Ummm....really? :D
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
Pretty sure those things are illegal in most jurisdictions. People need to be able to promptly call 911 or other emergency services without any sort of hassle of locating and getting permission to use a landline phone. This is the biggest contributing factor as to why movie theaters haven't adopted them.
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
I've heard about this before, Caprica. It makes sense. It's just so annoying when people don't respect the rules of the business they are visiting. I'm also bugged when people don't pick up after their dogs, respect handicapped parking spaces, or try to use a buffet restaurant as a grocery store (taking zip-lock baggies of food home in a giant handbag is definately against the rules!).

I wonder if the club could get around this by having a land line available?

She is right. Jamming cell phone transmissions (like some public schools have done) does not power the phone off. The basic functions (i.e. viewing contacts, taking pictures, using the calculator) cannot be stopped by jamming the signal. They could still take a picture and picture message it to their buddies later.
I think requiring them to check their phones in at the door and having the management and bouncers be diligent about a zero tolerance policy in regard to cell phones on the floor would help the problem, but there will always be a guy that gets a shot of a dancer and doesn't get caught. :'(
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
Another issue with them is, s far as I know, you can't really control their proximity. So people just walking by or even just living nearby may be inhibited. Also may interfere with police/fire/ambulance radars.
http://mobileforensics.files.wordpre...-isolation.pdf has more info. They are illegal in most, if not all, of the United States, except for use by Police forces and such.

I agree. Esp since after I started modeling/doing porn I made good money off guys by having them google me.
Jamming signals isnt going to stop pic taking, and the guys texting at the stage are just going to do something else that's annoying and rude, because they are annoying rude people.
I understand not allowing people to USE their phones in the club..i've worked at clubs that did that. If I walked into a club and they wanted to confiscate my Blackberry while I was there, I'd walk back out. I'm not handing over my expensive phone to some stranger. Who knows if I'd ever see it again? Mistakes happen, phones could be stolen or given to the wrong person. And without my phone, my agent cant get in touch with me ....because my emails go to my BB too...so if I'm out and about I NEED to be able to keep in touch. If he emails or calls with a last minute gig for the next day and I cant answer him to accept it..I just lost a bunch of money.
I get that guys can be rude in the club with their phones...but infringing on their right to have it on their person at ALL isnt the answer IMO. Plus..what are you going to do? Frisk them? How do you know they have a phone on them? Or if they give you one..they dont have another? Lots of people carry multiple phones.
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
This idea makes sense, but it may be too extreme to block the signal, and would turn some customers away. There should be a zero tolerance policy for cell phone usage inside the club(especially at the stage) Any customer seen using a cell phone should be instructed to put it away. I hate the guys who are constantly on the phone even if they are not taking photos. That way if they need to make a call they can do so in the restroom or outside. I'm not really concerned about pics, but it is a big time nuisance when doucher custy is constantly twittering or whatever the fuck he is doing.
Re: Cell phones blocked in clubs
Most of the girls, including me keep their phones in their carry round bags on the floor, there's no rules to stop men using their phones to call/text (i agree its cheeky but they may be texting their friends to meet them at the club and i wdnt want to deny them that!) But you can bet if any custy was taking pics of the girls especially on the pole then you can bet our bouncer would have him on the floor so fast the flash wdnt have had time to go off!
