Blackout Curtains and Room Darkening....
So I have tried sheets, blankets and liners to darken the room I sleep in (I sleep during the morning and early afternoon) What products are you guys using that work really well? (I want specifically blackout curtain brands and other window treatments, no eye masks etc..) Please include where you purchased and approx price range

What does this have to do with stripping? lol
The curtains I have are from Target. I like them because they're light blue (black wouldn't match with my bedroom) but they have some kind of special lining that blocks out the heat and light.

^^^ Heh, I was thinking the same thing...
I have ones I think are from target also. I paid about $40 for a set, maybe a lkittle more, I hated that most only sell one piece (who uses just one?)
Mine are really thick and have some sort of fabric design that is so tight no sun can get in.
After a long night the sun is the last thing I want waking me!
Re: Blackout Curtains and Room Darkening....
I know this sounds odd... but taping up some tin foil is gonna keep your room extremely dark and will reflect the heat from the morning sun. give it a go and tell me how it works for ya :)

Hahaha, that is an awesome idea! But I think if I ever tried it I would feel the need to put up some thick curtains over it to avoid awkward questions when I have people over.
Re: Blackout Curtains and Room Darkening....
Any thicker, lined type of curtains will keep all of the sun out. All you need are the actual curtains, and a rod set. I've installed curtains myself twice, it's really simple.
Re: Blackout Curtains and Room Darkening....
A really cheap and easy way is to use cardboard boxes cut to fit your window opening. I used to carry folded up boxes in my trunk of my car when I traveled to dance, and just put it up in the windows of the hotel room. Then when you wake up just take the cardboard down, fold and store in a closet or under the bed.
I'm all about saving money!
Re: Blackout Curtains and Room Darkening....
I was just at Home Depot today buying mine. I just got THICK ones that will keep most light out ( similar to what you'd see on sliders at a nice hotel ) . They were about $200 for curtains / rods for one small window + one large one.
Re: Blackout Curtains and Room Darkening....
I have wonderful THICK black velvet curtains and I bought them from Ross for $20 a panel. I think they were orginally about $60, but they are hella badass and keep ALL light out of my room, which is super important because I hate natural lighting AND it's hard to sleep through.
Another trick that I've used in the past to keep out light involves actually boarding up the windows with thick, black poster board. You can tape the panels up with duct tape and use sharpie to color over the tape to make it look color-coordinated (assuming you, like me, have a black room) OR another thing to consider is using fabric. I've done that a lot too--stapling big pieces of fabric (usually a heavy black fabric from a fabric store--cheaper than curtain fabric) to the window frames and stapling it inside the frames as well to doubly make sure the light doesn't seep through.
You could even do that AND then use curtains to make sure NOTHING gets through, since both those last methods aren't exactly the best looking ones in the world.
