To workout before trying or to not
I've decided I wanted to try exotic dancing but I have a question.I was wondering would it be better to work on my stamina& flexibility first before trying out or should I just jump right in&try out.I'm just looking advice. Thanks in advance(hopefully I explained this correctly):-\
Re: To workout before trying or to not
Well, if you are sedentary, then you really probably need to work on your stamina. It really depends on where you want to work though. For instance, many Go-Go's in north Jersey do 30 min stage shows, more common is a 3 song set though. Also, some clubs pretty much require pole work to compete with the other girls, in others it's rare to see much on the pole at all (pole work is very difficult if you aren't in shape).
I always recommend getting in your best shape first. That's what I always did, though it is by no means necessary. It just makes more sense to me to spend a few weeks shaping up, so you can do well right off the bat and not have to buy more outfits after you shape up/slim down a bit. Stripperwear can be expensive, no sense shelling out for it twice.

Re: To workout before trying or to not
Dancing itself will shape you up. I was in good shape when I started, but dancing in the heels changes your body mechanics, and you use different muscles, anyway.
You may want to start during a slower shift. Or even try doing 5 lap dances in a row to an empty chair at home while wearing stripper heels, to get an idea how your body is going to react. I gave my husband a 20 minute show last night, and I have sore quads today. The shoes really do change things up a lot.
Re: To workout before trying or to not
I staryed excersizing more seriously about 3 months before dancing, i wasnt even considering dancing seriously when i decided to shape up. I dont think id have had the guts to start if i hadnt but thats just me and a confidence/psychological thing.
Dancing will shape u up but it is completly knackering too, even a short dance or go on the pole can be really tiring due to the concentration and effort put in! Its all about ur personal levels really and how you feel! :D
Re: To workout before trying or to not
Thanks to all the ladies who've posted so far.Really help.I have another question maybe someone can answer. What kind of exercising do you have guys suggest for getting into dancing shape? Thanks
Re: To workout before trying or to not
For me personally, aerial arts (trapeze, fabric, etc) really trains your upper body and core in a way that will be veeeery useful for pole work. You can even translate some of the moves from one to the other. I built muscle MUCH more quickly than just with lifting weights. Plus it is incredibly fun! For me it feels like play time instead of "ugh, man, I HAVE to go work out again". Search the net to see if there are aerial classes in your area, if you are interested.
It doesn't work your legs as much, though. For that you might just need good ol' fashioned weights and cardio. There are a few aerialists I know who are really buff on top but have skinny little legs... not the best look in my opinion. And you will need strong legs for lap dances.
Re: To workout before trying or to not
I'm a stairmaster junkie and run as well. The last few years I've also started on the elliptical, but that's mainly just my retired ass being lazy! ;D
Before starting maybe try spending about 30min -1hr a night actually dancing in the shoes. It's an entirely different workout than just about anything else. Try that and some floorwork like you'll do at work. The floorwork isn't hard, but it'll be good to help toughen up your knees and hopefully minimize bruising once you start.
Re: To workout before trying or to not
Whatever you have to tell yourself to get to the gym! Lol. Yes, it will help but not as much as dancing itself. Do it if you want to give yourself an edge. Hopefully it will give you a lot of extra confidence when you DO start dancing. :)
Re: To workout before trying or to not
Thanks!I figured I'd start working out first before I even start that way I'll be in shape.
Here's my work out plan:
Pilates 4 times a week
Weight training one day a week
Cardio one day a week(as soon as I get my shoes.I'll start dancing in them&I'm sure that'll be enough cardio)
Is there anything I should add.
Thanks to everyone who took the time out to answer.
Re: To workout before trying or to not
Get a pole in your home, best work out ever! I swim twice a week, do an hour of pole fitness (my Mum wont let me have a pole :( cry cry cry) And do sit ups and stretches most nights too. This is simply because gym's freak me out, and its cheaper for me! I do love swimming tho, such an easy simple toner-upper! I like gentle excersize and 3 months in its really paying off for me! Good luck! :D
Re: To workout before trying or to not
I don't have any money to get a pole.if I had the money I would have gotten one
Re: To workout before trying or to not
I kno, and the xpole is so expensive! You'll be able to get one sone enuf once u start work! :D I have one, Im just tired of coaxing my Mum into letting me have it up! Im moving soon though, so im gna put it up there! Yay!
