For shaving, in place of shaving cream. Works better than baby oil, and I've never liked women's shaving creams.
Post-shower moisture - a lot of lotions irritate my skin or do nothing for me this time of year (long dry Wisconsin winters).
Solution for dry skin - knuckles, knees, etc.
Edible uses: Making popcorn. :)
I get EfaGold, pretty cheap, and it's organic - usually ordered from drugstore.com.
Teeth whitening
Conditioning hair mask but make sure to wash out properly so hair isnt greasy!
In cooking lol
cooking, hair mask, on my vag after shaving to prevent razor rash, chapped lips, dry skin/hands/feet, oil pulling...... Just about everything......
I use barleans. I got it from whole foods. Its expensive(about $25) because its extra virgin, cold processed, & expeller pressed. Its a better product than most out there.
spectrum organic, whole foods..I use it on my hair..my mother (an athelete) eats it for breakfast. seriously! : ) i guess it's good for extra energy and to feed the hair skin and nails from the inside out.
she says no more than 1/2 tbls. tho because it can cause an upset stomach but eats it daily.
I am so bitter about being allergic to coconut.
Just bought a tub of coconut oil tonight, and rubbed it all over my body! Lately when I put on lotion my skin STILL feels dry a few hours later! Especially when I get out of the shower and dry off, my skin HURTS! I feels so dry, tight and itchy it's unbearable.... so hopefully this will help!
cool! What kind did you get?
Great! I hope it works for you.... that's the main reason I love it. Mmm. Delicious after-shower slathering. :)
cooking. can also be good for the skin topically.
but mostly cooking.
spectrum brand is refined oil. if you are eating it you should actually be eating an organic unrefined extra virgin coconut oil if you want the benifits from eating it-- otherwise you are just eating a high calorie fatty oil. JD- i would read on your cheap brand of walmart coconut oil if you are eating it.... it is also probably refined. However, if you are only using it externally, then it doesnt matter so much.
I use it for the aforementioned reasons and some. One of the reasons skipped was to boost immune system. It has a lot of Lauric Acid, which is hte chemical in breast milk that keeps babies from getting sick. Whenever i feel a cold coming i eat more coconut butter (tastes better than oil) and i manage to not get sick (especially in comparison to my roommates).
Also its great for acne.
I use it in my hair and skin.it made my hair grow a few inches and it makes my skin glow
I saturate my hair with it before I dye it. I dye right over it and when I wash it all out and dry it, it feels great. Like i haven't dyed it at all.
Wow, really? If that's the case, I'm off to see the lady at the herbs store here in my town. I could use something that might improve the length of my hair, and the quality of my skin. I've been using Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter, but those aren't doing much for me these days.
there is only refined coconut oil and virgin coconut oil. anything claiming to be 'extra' is lying.
Coconut Bark!
There are a lot of variations of this recipe online (mostly on low-carb websites), but this is my version of it. I'm a fiend for dark chocolate so I don't use much sweetener.
- 4T coconut oil (I use Melrose Unrefined Organic coconut oil)
- 1T cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1 packet of SteviaPlus
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Stir well and freeze to set.

I use a small amount on the last few inches of my hair, after washing, while hair is still damp. Much fewer tangles!
dry lips, but it doesn't last long... tastes too good!
scalp massage for dry, itchy scalp.
I can't use it on my face, unfortunately; it makes me break out much more than any other oil I have tried.
I have an organic pressed coconut oil, and every time i use it on my body, i seem to get eaten /bitten by spiders and/or bugs? I wake up in the morning with at least 2 new bites..so i've stopped using it. EW!
Ok, I went and bought the Spectrum Unrefined Virgin Organic Coconut Oil, and the difference in texture is amazing. This one is so much better than the Spring Valley brand from Wal Mart, which kind of resembles candle wax. The Spectrum is more smooth and not as waxy.
love love love for teeth whitening. tastes yummy & whitens the teeth gently !
I heard it speeds up metabolism. Also, if you take a spoonful... it will flush everything out of you. I can't take a spoonful alone, bc it gives me a terrible stomach pain... so I put it in my oatmeal.
i eat coconut oil out of the jar and it doesn't flush anything out of me. it just tastes like coconuts and a bit of oil.
the virgin is well worth it.
here is a link to get lots at a reasonable price.

virgin, organic and CHEEP.
I use coconut oil for, um, "personal use". Or use with a partner. Seriously. Way healthier than petroleum based products and it works just as well. And it tastes good. Its really a win/win situation in my opinion.
How do you use it for teeth whitening? Iv got a massive jar if the stuffbut other than moisturising lotion I don't know where to start with using it for things?!?
