Does your butt flatten out if you sit all day?
So this may be a terribly stupid question and with risk of sounding like a total moron, I will ask...
I've always had a round, plump butt. Nothing to make you stop in your tracks, but a decent, healthy behind. The last 12-18 months I've had a day job that requires me to sit for about 10hrs +/- per day. Ever since this new job my butt has litterally flattened out. I have NO muscle mass any more. None. Where my butt was round, it is now completely flat and sorta blends on in with my leg! I'm really upset b/c it doesn't look very attractive and is a totally different shape than it has been my entire life. I was thinking it was all the sitting over the last year or so b/c it's the bottom part of my butt that has taken on this new shape so suddenly. I don't know. I really have no clue what has happened I'm working at the club more than I use to so that blows my theory out of the water thinking it was not enough exercise.
Does anyone know what it could be? Anyone have this happen?

prolly. i read a long time ago that sleeping on ur stomach flattens ur boobs and makes them droop.

My old cushioned PC chair broke about a year ago, so I replaced it with one of my hard flat dancing chairs (those figure 8 ones ya know). I noticed my butt went flat a few inches above my thigh. I always thought it may have been the chair.
My PC broke last month so Im now on my bed with the lappy instead, so lets see if my butt inflates again :)

i heard some folks sit on an exercise ball at work instead of a chair. i dont know bout doing that for 10 hours though

You gotta hit the weights. Squats, lunges, deadlifts, pliet(sp?) squats, donkey kicks w/ weights. Oh, and stairs.
Pain in the ass (no pun intended) but it keeps you from getting the 'Tara Reid Butt". She's cute and skinny but her butt melts into her legs. Literally. And she's not that old and doesn't have kids. That is just lack of resistance training.

YES! This is EXACTLY what I mean. Right above me thigh, where I actually SIT, has flattened out! I'm begining to think it *is* this hard seat and sitting all damn day! :'(
I'm totally bummed. Even someone at work noticed. I'm hoping if I work out like crazy it'll "inflate" again too!!

Bring a huge cushion to work, and work out like Corey said. Im gonna do more squats now she mentioned it.

I'm just so pissed about this. I've always been pretty happy with my backside, but now, JUST LIKE YOU SAID, it sorta "melts" into my thigh. The top is still semi-round but the bottom, forget it, flat flat flat. I'll be workin it out daily now. If the booty gets bigger from excersize will it be like a rock? Or will it still be able to jiggle?! (lol)

I dont reckon my booty will get back to what it was years ago unless I put on weight, and I dont wanna do that.

I have a fairly round butt at the top; however, it still tends to melt into my legs at the bottom. I'm convinced it actually is a problem with my hamstrings though. A doctor told me I have really short hamstrings once and it seems to be true. It's like there is a space between my hamstring and ass that is just flab. No matter how hard I work it just ain't going anywhere. So I'm targeting the hammies now to see if that helps.

Hmm, I've wondered about this too. I work in an office and spend a lot of that time sitting. Then I come home from the club at night, and sit more while I do stuff online. I've got a nice posterior, I'm told, but I worry about being able to keep it. As a result, until I go to sleep, I do little flexes on both sides, and then do both sides together, I don't know if that helps, but it makes me feel better whenever I think I've been sitting too much.
I'm wondering about an exercise that works to help tone and define the "crease" where your butt ends and your thigh begins. That, is the part I worry about saving most.

^^ Me too. I know a lot of girls like a more "heart shaped" booty with more on top, however, I like having my "chub" at the bottom crease as well. And too funny about the flexes....I do this too. :)

That's why Im gonna experiment with building my hamstrings. I think the combination of strong hammies and ass will further define that crease. I think my butt is already very strong but my hams maybe a bit weak. Outside of the gym deadlifts and lounges help with your hamstrings. I do tons of those already though and not much of a crease. So now I'm using the hamstring machine at the gym as well. But I think that area for me is just the absolute last place I store fat, so I guess I'd have to give up cookies too. I'm not sure that's humanly possible. I may love cookies more than the crease. hehehe

What's wrong w/ a hard but firm booty?/:O Actually, mine doesn't jiggle very much, so I can't 'clap' very well.

Your butt might be flattening out not because you are sitting but because you are not moving about (exercising) during that 10 hours per day.
