My cat has trained my dog!
My cat has trained my dog to bark/whine at the door whenever she (the cat) wants in or out. I don't know if the cat is rewarding the dog for her behavior or not, but the dog does this consistently when the cat is sitting at the door.
I'm pretty good at ignoring my cat, but the dog barking is a lot more annoying and gets a faster reaction out of me and my family. I don't know if the dog can hear sounds the cat makes that I cannot, but she will go from sleeping in the living room to sitting at the back door barking when the cat appears.
Sigh. If only I could train her to behave that predictably:-\.

That's a really smart dog; what breed is it?

Re: My cat has trained my dog!
My sister's cat and dog always used to be very aggressive toward each other - or so she thought. Always growling and snarling at each other
Then one day she left work early because she felt ill, and let herself quietly into the house. Said cat and dog were curled up companionably together on the sofa.....
Phil.
Re: My cat has trained my dog!
I wish cats could be trained as easily as dogs. When cats ignore me, I get annoyed. "STUPID CAT! LISTEN TO ME!" They do it on purpose. They are evil. When you wake up and they are sitting on your chest. You woke up just in time before they strangled you.

If you can get that on film post it on YouTube; it will go viral.

Aw they aren't evil, they are just so clever some people get freaked out by them...I think it's adorable when I wake up to find my cat on me.

Border Collie/ Australian cattle dog cross. She is wicked smart. She knows that if I don't have the water bottle at hand that she can get away with misbehaving. (I use a squirt bottle or penny can for correction.)

Hmmmm, I may have to set up a web cam or something and just let it go for a while to show the whole thing.

I like it when I see dogs and cats get along. Reminds me of a story about a Lioness and a baby oryx i heard about.
Re: My cat has trained my dog!
Ha! My cats have trained my dog (unknowingly) to not tear through the house when he comes in from outside!
He used to run in and go crazy jumping around. He's an 11 yr old dog who developed this routine quickly after potty training because he knew he was getting a treat for doing his biz and coming inside.
The cats are only a 1 1/2 yrs old and they caught on quick to his routine. So they proceeded to hide and then pounce on him when he does his dance! Now he knows its coming so he carefully walks in the door and gradually makes his way to the cookie jar so the cats don't get excited and attack. Hehe, it is working! It seems the cats aren't as interested when he isn't jumping about! lol!
