need immediate advice - quick! thanks!
i'm STARVING. last night at worked i ordered my usual lobster ravioli but got busy working and let it sit out. i mean in its container, but not refrigerated for probably 2 1/2 hours. its in my fridge now. i really really want to eat it.
i'm not sure if there is cream in the sauce.
i think i'm going to eat it but what do you guys think???
Re: need immediate advice - quick! thanks!
I ate some meatballs in spaghetti sauce for lunch that had been sitting out since last night. I nuked it well of course, and everything feels fine.
Not sure about something with cream though. Does it smell? Does it smell funny after you microwave it?
Nuke it, have a taste, and if something feels off, don't eat it, and have a piece of bread and plenty of water.
Re: need immediate advice - quick! thanks!
lol girl, thanks. everything smelled okay and i think it was in oil because i tried adding a little water and it turned all blobby and nasty. just didn't taste good like it usually does so i'm gonna trust the gorton's fishermen and put some frozen salmon in the toaster oven.
thanks though :)
Re: need immediate advice - quick! thanks!
Meh, I'd eat it even if it had sat out all night, I hate wasting food, especially if an animal died to feed me. I figure what doesn't kill me makes me stronger, but that's me.
Before refrigeration I am absolutely sure people ate things that we would never consider eating today.

Yeah, cheese sauce always separates like that (same with basil pesto sauce). In the future you are better off putting it in a pan on a low heat and adding just a tiny bit of milk, but even then, it will still be a bit lumpy and oily like that.

Commence eating said raviolis!
Fuck man, J and I ate salad dressing that was a month expired. We ended up being ok.
Re: need immediate advice - quick! thanks!
Haha, my grandmother used to eat things that had turned. We moved her here from the middle of nowhere in Russia, and she had lived her life in a kind of poverty that few of us could ever even imagine...starving through multiple famines and wars.
So, if something got moldy and we wouldn't eat it, she would cut off the questionable parts, and chow. What an incredibly tough lady she was, especially dealing with my brother and I, spoiled americanized brats, hehe.

Yeah, I don't eat dressing very often, but I had some last month and didn't even notice till like a week later that it had been expired for over 5 months (it was blue cheese) lol

I do the same, I was VERY poor growing up. We had to dumpster dive for food at times, so I have a hard time throwing something out unless it smells bad (I won't drink bad milk etc). But things like cheese and bread are expensive, so I just cut off the mold and eat it anyway. Mmmm penicillin.
Re: need immediate advice - quick! thanks!
Makes me appreciate a lot of things I take for granted now.
Re: need immediate advice - quick! thanks!
I'd eat it if under 3 hours more than likely.
Re: need immediate advice - quick! thanks!
I've had food poisoning on multiple occasions (mom was a horrendously bad cook) and I don't take any chances anymore. As a matter of fact, I rarely dine out today, especially buffet style restaurants due to the risk of food borne illness. I would have thrown the food away, but I've spent weeks sick with Salmonella poisoning in the past.

wow sorry to hear, can't even imagine how much that sucked! :-[
i've been very lucky, esp considering how much shellfish i eat. :-X
Re: need immediate advice - quick! thanks!
I have an "iron stomach" so I would of eaten it without question. Even if it sat out for hours and hours, I would eat it. I also don't like wasting food.

Yeah, I have gotten food poisoning a couple times in my life (from eating out where workers neglected to wash their hands) But I have never ever gotten sick from eating old food and I think it's because I eat so much of it, I'm immune now, ha ha.

My sister's fiance is like this. If they go out, even if it is literally two bites, he will ask for a box. He's vegan though.

I know it's kinda weird, since I am not a veggie and I come from a very long line of hunters, but I consider a lot of what I eat to be giving it's life for me (other then things like eggs, milk, cheese and some fruits)
I just like to feel like I honor the life that is given to me for food. Even broccoli was once living.
I'm a weirdo
And I don't like throwing the other stuff away because I was so super poor for a good portion of my life, it makes me feel guilty when I do have to throw something out.
Probably a good thing I don't get sick on bad food easily ha ha

I've eaten peanut butter that was way past it's best if used by date. Many of the condiments in my fridge sit forever. Mayonaise, jelly, honey, ranch dressing, and pickles. I never became ill. My fridge is empty, except for condiments. I'd eat tho hell outta robster ravioli.
