Canadians Working in the US
Hi all! I've done all the searching I can on this topic and came across some usefull info however, it is all almost five to seven years old so I am asking again for any help you ladies can give me. I am fully aware that getting a visa to work in the states is virtually impossible so I will most likely be working under the table. I've already spoken with the club that I want to work at and they've told me that if I cannot get a license that they will sign me on as a Feature Entertainer. Any ladies have any info on this? Should I be talking to a agency here in Canada to sort out some facts?
Also, if I do manage to go down there and work what should i do with the money I make? Is Canadian customs going to search and seize any american cash i have on me? Should I convert it to Canadian dollars before I cross back over the border?
I would be truly greateful if any of you ladies have any Canadian "friends" who might tell me what to watch out for. Thanks :)
Re: Canadians Working in the US
I've been down to the US to dance a few times and was successful with it. What club/city are you looking into?
If they sign you up as a feature they need to sponsor you for a visa because you'll still need a license regardless. If they do that you need to report every penny you make down there(well close to at least).
I always wired the money back to myself or to a family member(my family knew what I did) or a trustful friend. Never cross back with to much on you because if you get searched they get suspicious. Like no more then a couple hundred.
Also do NOT travel down with your dancer clothes. Either mail them to the club or buy stuff when you get there. Dress tasteful and casual to cross customs. Have your story completely planned out and phone numbers of the people you plan to be with down there. I made sure I had at least one 'friend' who they could call to verify I was going to hang with and hotel info so they know where your staying.
Customs is getting SUPER strict these days. Last time I went it was hell crossing the boarder. They strip searched me, went through my suitcase and everything on me, did a search on me and my friend I was staying with. My name is now flagged even though they let me cross because they suspected something.
Honestly its really not worth the hassle anymore but if you do make sure you plan VERY carefully.
Feel free to pm me if you want any more info or help. I traveled a lot down to the US over the years to work.
Oh and beware if they catch you in a club raid they take everything from you including money and keep it and your deported and never allowed re-entry to the US and risk some major charges.
