pole question - standard club poles
so i've been reading and taking notes on the "personal stripper pole information" thread, but there's a lot of information there. maybe i missed it, but i have a few simple questions:
- what is that standard pole material at a club?
i've worked at one club with a pole, and it was brass. i'm leaning towards brass anyways...i keep hearing stainless steel is quite slippery. although i'd rather go with what material is most often used.
- standard pole size at a club?
i think it's 2 inches, correct? or is it 1.5 inches...?
- i've narrowed it down to either platinum stages or xpole...please quickly tell me YOUR preference.
thank you!!
Re: pole question - standard club poles
Ive never tried platinum stages, but i do own a 45mm stainless steel xpole. Poles tend to come in either 45mm or 50mm if im not mistaken, & i believe 50mm stainless steel is the standard club pole.
Re: pole question - standard club poles
Brass is most common. I've heard great things about both of the brands named. And I would go with the 50mm in size. Stainless steel is way too slippery for me personally. The only club I worked at that had a stainless steel pole was @ a club in Detroit and the bouncers were constantly cleaning it to keep it stickier than usual. It was weird, but it was also a spinning pole. It wasn't too bad, but the others I have experienced that weren't brass just weren't easy to work with on stage. Don't wanna slip when you are trying to be sexy lol.
Re: pole question - standard club poles
^^^ Where I'm at stainless is the most common. I don't see a lot of brass poles even when I travel.
2 inches is also the most common.
If I were you and looking into buying a pole I'd buy 2" steel because it's common and the hardest to learn on... but that means you'll look even better when you get on smaller poles or brass poles that are easier to work on.
Re: pole question - standard club poles
Stainless steel poles are actually the best to learn on. They're slippery at first but its because you need to learn a proper grip.
Brass poles get really gross over time and they're 'soft' so they bend easy and they have to be a permanent mount pole.
Stainless steel poles if you clean them with rubbing alcohol arnt to slippery. Once you get used to them you'll have no problem. I had a hell of a time at first learning to use one but now I can rock it on any pole made of any material.
Also PS poles are the best quality. There have been a lot of reported incidents with the xpoles.
A website i've found super helpful for pole info is polejunkies.com
Re: pole question - standard club poles
Platinum stages, imo, have the best poles, but the worst customer service. I paid an additional 100.00 for overnight shipping when I ordered my pole. Not only did I get it 5 days later, but the hardware was missing and took an additional 5 days to come in the mail. needless to say, I was livid! Did they refund the 100.00? Of course not! I argued via e-mail back and forth with the shipping "manager" and she was a real cunt who was extremely unreasonable.
A friend of mine is a competitive pole dancer/instructor and has a lot of experience with PS and has the same thing to report. She has been screwed over numerous times in regards to thier service or lack there of.
Unfortunately, due to the limited suppliers of brass poles, they can get away with this shit. Just letting you know what u may be in for. I do, however, LOVE my PS Superpole. It spins/locks into place, and is completely portable. I adore it:)
Brass, for me, has always been the way to go. I have pretty oily skin and can't stick to stainless to save my life. Brass IS softer, but I find, that if you take your pole down every few days (provided it's a removable kind), you extend it's life and durability tremendously. These poles are not meant to stay up indefinately. If they are removable, take them down now and again. They are pressure mouted, and from what I have seen firsthand, keeping them up and too tight all the time, can cause them to bow out.
Good luck with your purchase and happy poling!
Re: pole question - standard club poles
i mean, poleing lol! Is that even a word?
Re: pole question - standard club poles
Ive had 2 poles, first was a one piece chrome pole and i hated it- was way too slippery for me. I then tried a platinum stages one piece removeable pole at my dance class and loved it, so i ordered one.
2" is the standard and most clubs that ive worked at have stainless steel.
Re: pole question - standard club poles
2 out of 6 clubs ive worked in have had really skinny poles, swear to god they were just polished scafolding lol, one of which i work at now, its thinner than a 45mm. ide say about 40mm ish. hard to do certain moves on it but great for spinning moves.
the other clubs ive worked at had fat ones, well i thought they where fat lol, hard to grip with shrimp hands like mine, they where prob 50mm, felt like 52-55mm to me lol.
5 out of 6 have been steel i think, good grip in my opinion, one was brass, found it hard, and the spinning one (was 2 on the stage) was slightly bent and made a clunk noise when it spun round.
i just recently got the Chrome 45mm, Xpole, Xpert. i love it, was abit scared at first coz its not screwed in or out, but after a while, came to grow confidence and its really very strong.
i do find it slippery, but i think its becoz the room i have it in gets hot so easy and i just spew sweat lol, been cleaning it with window cleaner but dont think its doin the job, so gonna get some cheap vodka on it when i go shoppin next.
