The answer to the obvious question is that 'webcam modeling' is a legitimate 'profession'. You will be paid under previously agreed contractual terms. Your earnings will be reported to the IRS and the state of PA by the web host's attorneys / accountants etc. This is 'above the table' fully documented legitimate 'work'.
But now for the flip side. You mention that you are preparing to become a full time college student. Student loan / grant agencies base their loan approvals / grant amounts on total HOUSEHOLD income ... which would include your father's income as well as your own income. Because the webcam income is officially reported to the IRS ( via form 1099-misc ) and because both the IRS and every US college's bursar's office share info with gov't dep'ts dealing with gov't subsidized student grants and loans, it's entirely possible that a situation could develop where every $1 you earn doing webcam will cost you 50 cents worth of student grant money. This is dependent on the range of total household income, so if your father earns less you can earn more before the total household income starts working against your student grants / loans.
Also, because your webcam income will be reported to the IRS, and linked to your father's income via student loan / grant information, you have to be careful in regard to the proportion of household income your father is earning versus the proportion of household income that YOU are earning. The concern here is that if you earn enough money as a webcam model to cover 51% of your own living expenses, your father could lose the right to claim you as a dependent. If this were to happen, HIS income tax liability could increase significantly despite no actual change in his paycheck income. And attempting a work-around like paying your father rent will not 'fly' with the IRS.
Also, with an extremely short list of exceptions, as long as you are under age 23 you are stuck being a 'dependent' ... you are stuck having to share your own income information with your father ( or more precisely, whoever will be filing student loan / grant applications and tax returns ). You are stuck not being able to claim a tax exemption for yourself on your own tax return. And you are stuck having your father's income be a factor in the amounts of student loan / grant money you will receive. This is probably not a big deal if your father earns $75k a year and you wind up earning $10k as a webcam model. However this could be a very big deal if your father earns $40k a year and you wind up earning $25k as a webcam model

First, and for future reference, don't tell the parental units. I made this same mistake.
Second, do it anyway. Just be really sneaky and find ways to do it without him finding out- like get another bank account to deposit the money into and such, and don't tell him. It's not his business, it's yours. ;) It'll be your very lucrative business....
He may not want you to do it because he can avoid the club where you work, but he won't necessarily be able to avoid your stuff while internet porn surfing....
Honestly, I can't believe that he even allowed you to strip/ that you told him. But to each her own.

Uhhh...ok. If I have to start sneaking into people's houses and leaving little joints and chocolates on their keyboards, I WILL.
Sidenote...Oooh Malaya, new picture?

Re: My dad doesn't think camming is a "legit" job (rant)
Wow you guys... The last time I checked this there was only one page of posts and when I looked this time there were 3 pages and I was like "wtf happened??" Lol. Joints sound like a good idea lol.
Lilmisssunshine, I think Malaya just has a blunt way of saying things. I can see how you might take offense to what she says. But she IS trying to help. And she is a wealth of information, and I really appreciate her sharing with us. Try not to let her rub you the wrong way :)
About the financial aid situation... Nothing will affect my dad's income tax because I'm 22 and he hasn't claimed me as a dependent for years. I have already filed and been approved for financial aid for the upcoming semester BEFORE I started camming, so I had very little income to report. Next year I will be 23 and my dad's income won't matter because I won't be considered his dependent according to federal aid. PLUS the college I'm going to has already given me a scholarship that pays half of all my tuition for 4 years for doing so well in high school (I was valedictorian yay me lol.) I appreciate all the info you gave me. You are very informed on the subject, Melonie =) And I will definitely keep it in mind, because if I am making decent money, it will absolutely affect how much aid I get next year. I hadn't really thought about that.
