Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
Do you have another job other than stripping to help you pay the bills? I've heard a lot about how stripping is an unreliable source of money. So do you get worried about not making it sometimes?
The apt. I am looking at cost $700 a month, including all utilities. I live in the Chicago area.
Sorry for all my newbie questions, but I plan on moving out in May and making stripping my main, possibly only, source of income. I want to make sure I make a smart decision before I sign I lease I won't be able to pay. Thanks!!

I live near Toronto ON.
Right now I am off dancing because of an infection in my toe. Right now I am just skimming by on savings. Barely able to pay my rent and bills.
However when I do get back (hopefully sometime in the next two months) I do not doubt that I will be doing well. I typically make $300-400 a night, and I only work maybe 2 days a week.
What you make is dependent on a number of factors; your marketability (looks, etc), hustle, location, etc.

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
If you're looking into stripping as your main source of income, I'd def. try it out for a few months first, to see how much money you make monthly. $700 a month is a great price for an apartment, utilities and all, but it still could be too much if you're only making $1500/month dancing.
Rent shouldn't exceed 32% of your total monthly income. Take what you make after a few months dancing and multiply that by .32.
Before you sign that lease, have money in SAVINGS! Suze Orman recommends having as much as 8 months worth of living expenses in savings. That amount would be nice, but for most people is unrealistic starting out. If you have a 3 or 4 months worth of rent in your bank account before you start renting, that should ease your mind if and when you have a few bad months (they will happen).
Good luck!

Despite all the money girls claim to make bla bla (not saying theyre lying..though sometimes they are I just mean its irrelevant to you) If you arent currently stripping you don't even know if you will like the job or not and then so many different factors come into it.
If its a choice i would never advise to have stripping as your only income unless you are confident in consistently making a good ammount just because it can make the job a lot more stressful and the more stressed I think the less money you will make and its just a downward spiral.

Yeah I guess I won't really know until I actually try it. I get worried though because I have read several posts about girls making $100 a night as their goal, but also read posts about girls who make a good decent 300-500+ a night.

Lol, I like her. Did you know she has been bankrupt before?/:O

I really wouldn't commit to an apartment thinking your going to get by dancing. If dancing doesn't work out your SOL. Especially in this economy. But we've all explained this to you before. I've heard Chicago is very hit and miss right now too.

You are absolutely right. Why would I put myself in a position where I am constantly stressed about making ends meet. I should put money aside so when I have my bad nights I won't be biting everyone's head off with my own annoyance of not being able to may my bills. Great advice. Thanks

Lol, I've heard. Crazy to think about - essp. as she's so knowledgeable about finances at present. Mind you, this gives us an excellent opportunity to learn from her mistakes; don't commit to things you can't afford.
As I recall, many business tycoons have been bankrupt before....I think Donald Trump may have gone bankrupt twice.

Where did you hear that dancing was an unreliable source of income?
I haven't had a normal job in over ten years.
A male friend of mine gave me the best advice and said if you're going to dance naked don't bother wasting your time with a job.
If you are in a career that is another story. That I wouldn't suggest quitting then.
Dance for your basic income, to pay to go to school and or start your own business.
Learn how to allocate your money wisely and you'll never struggle no matter what you do for work.

Me neither.

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
If i could not make enough money stripping to pay the bills, then i wouldnt be stripping.
Im just not one of those girls who is ok with making only 100 a night and barely being able to make rent.

Because it IS an unreliable source of income these days. There are girls who struggle to make $100 a night and its not that they're slack girls who are not working. Its just the economy.
There is no promise of making enough to pay the bills these days. Hell I was paid by the clubs AND hustling the floor(and I know how to hustle) and there were months where I struggled and I traveled. It was a common theme everywhere.
5 years ago? Yea dancing was reliable. 2010? Not so much.
Now im not saying its like this for every girl. But really not every girl can count on their stripping income these days. Look how many girls on here are crying its just not the same.

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
You'll make rent.
I originally was really worried about that, too. But look at it this way: if you can break $100- even on a shitty night- for every night you work, assuming you're working at least 3 nights a week, then that's $1200 a month.
I mean if you're doing that badly though, you might want to consider something else...Not stripping...

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
My expenses were much more than yours when I was only dancing but I struggled because of the stress. When I'd have a bad night I would start worrying about having a string of bad nights and not being able to pay my bills. Then because I was stressed out it was harder to work and I would make less. It was a vicious cycle.
I do better with a reliable and steady source of income which I supplement with dancing and phone sex. It also keeps the job fun because I only do it occasionally and prevents burnout which is a big problem for me personally.

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
I just paid my whole mortgage from three nights of dancing ( working hard of course ) and had some left over . But ..... it doesn't always happen. Slow nights happen. $700 seems totally do-able to me, but maybe try dancing for a week or two and see how your averages look.

This for me ( I have a reg. job and was also doing lots of phone sex work over the last couple months ) . I like having different ways to make money avail. so that if one starts to suck, I can ease back until I'm ready for more. Oddly ..... If I'm dancing heavily, I can't stand doing phone sex ( my clients just have to wait until I feel like it again ) .

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
I can't imagine why anyone would dance if they weren't making enough in a month to cover their rent! I have real trouble motivating myself to go in (we have no schedules and a day off is soooo tempting) BUT I still make enough to pay rent, phone bill, health insurance, car insurance, groceries, etc. Everything I pay for comes from dancing, heck, if I put in extra days I manage to put a nice bit in my savings too.
If you're not sure how its going to go, I would maybe work a 'regular' job a few days a week to keep you safe, or have enough money saved up before moving to cover the first months rent.
:)

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
^ yea motivating yourself to go in is a tough one. i think its locational... schedules make it easy... as does the prospect of good money.
low earning potentials kill my desire to go in. ive only worked 3x since coming to Austin. I know, im a bad girl. but on the flip side ive caught up on a lot of day-time stuff that i totally had let go.
but im taking a working trip this week and plan on pulling some long shifts a few days in a row and working my tail off. so it will even out.
but yea... its easy to fall into the habbit of being a sporadic stripper. even if you are smart enough to know that you should be working as much as possible. im a smart girl, and on top of that im left brained (as in im a logical person-- i got my degree in math for a reason) but i still fight to not be a lazy stripper. i certainly dont struggle to pay my bills, BUT im a good hustler. if i was not a good hustler, i would be one of those scramble at the end of the month strippers :(. and there are a lot of those...

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
You'll make rent. Why would anyone do this job and not be able to pay rent?
Money management is very important too.
-
Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
There are no set hours and no one HAS TO pay you.
So you can't count on anything.
Can you pay your rent? Probably.
But it's not a definate thing.
It's my only source of income... but I've got backups sources of income readily available.
-
Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
I always make enough for rent, utilities, phone/internet, bus fare, food, and small luxuries like take-out and Netflix, etc.
BUT I also have trouble SAVING money, because of how bad the economy is.
PLUS since this is my 1st tax season as a stripper I filed my taxes as a small business owner this year (usually I've had jobs where I have "employee status" and I receive a sweet tax return), and so I have to PAY taxes... I owe the gov't like $2000 :( I'm on a payment schedule to get that taken care of.
Factor in your other living expenses besides rent + utilities, things like:
Cable
Cell Phone
Car payments/insurance/maintenance/gas
Health Insurance
Food
Entertainment
Kids
Having a liberal (over)estimate of how much money you need to make every month to maintain your lifestyle will help you break down how much you'll have to pull a month, week, or night stripping, or how many nights a week you should expect to be doing it.
Like others have said, it really depends on the average earning potential for your area, your looks, hustle, and overall monthly expenses. $700 including utilities aint bad for a big city, you could probably swing it easy :) Otherwise you might consider getting a roommate

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
I've never had a problem making rent or paying bills with dancing as my sole income source. There was a few close calls like when I had to save $4K on top of my regular expenses a few weeks ago in just two weeks... and guess what? I managed it. You know how? Cause I don't crack under pressure. I guess some people get to work and worry about how much money they are going to make and is it going to be enough. I always tell myself not to worry, so I don't come across desperate. And Im not desperate. The beauty of dancing is there is always another day, another chance. If you get in a pinch you just hustle harder and work longer hours. Unfortunately in my day job it didn't matter if I worked 40 hours or 70 hours I still made the same salary. I also always try to be a few weeks ahead at all times as well. Unfortunately I don't have much savings cause my expenses are so high, but I always have at least enough to live 3 weeks on, in case I get sick or injured. I wish I had more, but I suck at saving. Some nights dancing are just not your night... Last night for example I had a few drinkypoos with a friend b4 work and ended up in party mode and then couldn't focus at all at work. Opsy! But I know that means tonight I need to hustle twice as hard to make up for it.

Re: Do you pay your rent soley on money made from stripping? Do you struggle?
I have to make like $1050/week in the next 8 weeks to pay off credit cards/pay rent/bills and pay for my trip to Montreal. So I got myself put on a schedule and I'm going to work 5, 6 day weeks. Even if I only make $100/night (pretty easy to do in my club most nights.. except on friday I only made $25!), that would still be enough to almost cover my rent in 1 week. And that amount per week is including saving a full third of my income.
If you work hard it's doable. For me getting in the door is half the battle, and hustling is the other half.
