PC laptop recommendations for cam work?
Hi Everyone,
I'm using my Mac to work on Streamate, but it's having lots of problems, plus I'd like to expand to other sites that ONLY work with PC computers. Anyways, do you have a recommendation for a good, cheap PC laptop? It would be used ONLY for camming, and I'd like to stay under $500.
Thanks for any advice!

Also, anyone use a netbook? Would it be powerful enough for video?
Re: PC laptop recommendations for cam work?
Whatever your specs are in your MAc, you can get one just like it in a PC

Buy a used PC off Craigslist; look for one with XP Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 3.00 GHz or larger and 3 gigs of RAM. The average price of a used computer is about $200. Get a nice web cam; surround sound speakers and a good microphone; whole package will be under $500. Good cams have the mic built in. But if you really want to make money camming you want to be able to hold the mic close to your mouth.
When you get your PC download the free crap cleaner at and check every box except "Wipe Free Space" and "PreFetch Data". Run the cleaner daily and you cam show will run without freeze ups and other problems.
You can up grade a PC very cheaply via company's like NerdyGadgets.com, Tigerdirect.com and Mwave.com it is very expensive to upgrade a laptop.

I've seen inexpensive laptops at my local warmart for $325. I'm sure you'll be able to find one for $500. All you need is a pc with at least 1GB and good/fast internet connection. Sorry you're having trouble with streamate.
Personally, I wouldn't go the craigslist route but it's not a bad idea.

...install Windows on your Mac.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a used/reconditioned computer anywhere. It might run great, then again it might not, as pointed out you can find new ones fairly cheap enough w/warranty.
I purchased 2 (used) laptops awhile back, 1 still works til this day, the other developed (after 6 mos.) a screen prob. that would've cost more to fix than it was worth.

With a $500 budget you can do a lot better with a used PC than a new one.

On a $500 budget, you can build a decent machine yourself.
Re: PC laptop recommendations for cam work?
I myself bought an Acer, 3gig Ram, etc. 17" monitor, I don't remember all the features. From hsn, & what I liked & needed was the 'easy pay' (split payments). It was around 500 - 600.

I'm going to try putting Windows on my Mac this weekend. Had some trouble partitioning the hard drive last time, wish me luck on this go!
