hmmm you might want to rethink how your going to the bathroom :D
I usually just turn to whoever im talking to atm and tell em to pick something and that ill be back in a few
At my rock bar, George Thorogood "One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer"...
At my Gentlemen's Club, NIN's Closer (Fuck Madonna remix)
Only with Serato though... Otherwise, nothing beats Virtual DJ's automix with a wireless mic from the shitter haha...
I have untold numbers of 8 minute techno songs, I usually use one of them, but Metallica works great for the rockers, and there's some good R & B hip hop too.
But I only do that in case I get into a fight on the way back or whatever. The dancers would freak if the song went much past 3 minutes. Of course there are times when weird stuff happens (like every fucking night haha!) and you have to deal with an emergency, the owner wants to talk to you, etc., or you gotta go get the sandwich you ordered from next door.
I am also not one of those DJs who chains himself to the booth, what I call the Rat in a Cage/Man in the Box syndrome. I time it so that I know I will make it back, but you need an extra edge sometimes especially when throwing guys out of the dressing room, etc.. But I do like to walk around the club and get a real feel for the vibe, check out the other bar and stage area that I can't see otherwise--you can't get that trapped in a little booth away from everyone for 8 hours straight.
That's a bummer on many levels. I can't take care of things in 3 minutes.
I don't like to walk around too much because I don't want to have to sprint for the DJ booth if something goes wrong. I do encourage regulars to come up and hang out though (within reason of course). I do occasionally walk the floor and listen to the system but I can see everything from the booth.
Yeah some booths are better than others!
The worst one of all for being inaccessible was in a smaller/medium sized club that used to be a restaurant. You had to go all the way around the club, all through the old kitchens in the back, through the back and into this fucking closet booth, cut off from the entire bar. But at least it had a great view of the stage, so in a way it was not all that bad. But even taking a leak required serious advanced planning!
I think probably the most important thing in my mind is having a good view of the stage. NOT in order to fucking perv out as that will backfire on you every time--but so you can tell how the dancer is doing up there, if she is liking the music, if the guys are tipping her, etc.
It took me a while to get used to 3 minutes or less in the busier clubs--I was used to working in crazy smaller clubs where just getting the dancers onstage was a problem a lot, so I tended to play longer songs when I finally got them up there lol!
I think you're probably right. I worked in a club where I couldn't see the 2nd stage/bar, at all. I had to leave the booth and walk 15 feet out on the floor to see if the dancer showed up. All they had to do to fix it was put up one of those convex mirrors (the kind you see in gas stations) ...but they didn't.
Oser, have you ever managed?
Is there a more active forum for our profession that you guys know of?
I know of DJ (of the night club ilk) sites and Dancer sites. I realize there aren't a whole lot of Strip Club DJs around and that a lot of them either don't care too much or don't know how to turn on a pc, but I still hold out hope.

is it even possible for us to perv out anymore
first night I ever worked I was like awesome I am getting paid to be in a strip club
second night it was like they dont pay me enough for this shit
still fun though
as far as a more active forum I'm sure there is but I'm to lazy to search
on a separate note one of the reasons I love jukebox clubs is the mad scramble when the dancers forget to put music on, I get more entertainment out of watching that than I do from watching the dancers
The only jukebox club I've ever been to was in Juarez, Mexico.
