Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
I haven't stayed at the Wynn but if the lobby, gaming and other ground floor areas are an indication of the rooms it should be awesome.
Beautiful hotels on the strip ... Bellagio, Venetian, Palazo.
Off strip ... Red Rock.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
I've stayed at quite a few of the Vegas resorts...unfortunately the Wynn has not been one of them, yet. I played in their casino on my last trip in March - the one thing I observed is that red is a dominant color on the casino floor. Encore is its sister property next door; looking at their websites the rooms seem a little more muted in color, but still classy.
Of the places I have stayed...
Red Rock's rooms have the darker color scheme it sounds like you're looking for, and I think they're outstanding value. The drawback, of course, is that it's WAY off-Strip; about a minimum 20 minute drive if there's no traffic.
I stayed at Aria (the main hotel at CityCenter and the only one in the complex with a casino). The buzz about the rooms is that when you come in, the room lights are activated and the drapes automatically open. Also there's a bedside touchscreen console that controls everything (lights, drapes, TV, wakeup calls). Those rooms are also in a darker-brown color scheme like Red Rock, though a little smaller in comparison.
My other favorite place to stay & play is the Hard Rock. It's off the Strip (to the east, next to UNLV), but not too far. In the last year they've opened up two new towers (Paradise and HRH), though I've not yet stayed in either. The original hotel is now the Casino Tower, and the rooms are modern in decor and in a lighter color scheme. There's a premium for having the pool-view rooms, but the view is great. I believe the Paradise Tower has a darker color scheme, and the HRH Tower is all suites.
Good luck on your trip, charlie!
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
Hi,
I have been to Vegas a total of *one* time BUT I happened to stay at the Wynn. I think it was a great hotel and I am definitely not one to be open-minded ab a crappy hotel; I calls 'em like I sees 'em. :)
My visit was last June so I definitely hit up their pool which was busy but not obnoxiously crowded. I also went to the casino twice (and won my rent money in the 2nd night there- not bad for a girl who doesn't gamble!) I even checked out their gym which is small but nice and has all of the necessary equipment. I went to the spa once for a massage and the woman was professional, nice, and my girlfriend and I felt like we could relax (i.e. we weren't rushed along). I happened to stay in a very nice suite so of course it was nice (big, regal but not tacky, etc). If I remember correctly, the color scheme was dark red (carpets, draperies, bedspread) mixed with cream/off-white (carpets, bedding, furniture). I was nothing but impressed when I walked in my room.
Honestly, my stay there was short (2 days, 2 nights) but I had a great experience. Hope you and your man do too! :D
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
You guys rock. I'm just so afraid that I'll walk in and be like "Wow. Seriously??" Some people on yelp and whatnot said the color scheme was just awful.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
Dude, the Wynn is gorgeous, one of the nicest hotels in Vegas. If you want to see TACKY, check out the Rio, lol.
Is color scheme that important, though? Its not tacky at all though, from my recollection.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
The Wynn is gorgeous! I was actually surprised that Aria was built after the Wynn and wasn't even nearly as nice. Plus, the Wynn has some great shopping.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
i just got back from vegas...i stayed at planet hollywood in the new towers (they just opened in december) the room was really nice, sort of small and had a little kitchen but wasn't stocked with any amenities but was pretty hi-tech. i wasn't extremely impressed with planet hollywood (mostly because of the staff) and the room itself was nice and had a nice view. it's also in the miracle mile which was nice because you don't have to leave the hotel (if you don't want to) and pretty much everything is in it and right in the center of the strip.
i also went to encore (part of the wynn) to go to xs, and the club was really nice and i also walked through aria which i thought was really nice and went to a bar there (expensive but classy). when you say people were complaining about the color scheme why didn't they like it? i'm just curious haha.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
LMAO bad choice at the Wynn? :shocking::rotfl::shocking::rotfl:
They've been running a special book a Wynn Resort room and get a free upgrade to an Encore Tower Suite. Check if that special is available for your time period.
Can't go wrong at the Palazzo/Venetian either.
If you want a nice pool then the Mandalay Bay/The Hotel complex would be the choice.
Of course, Palms and Hard Rock are often the choice of the 20ish party crowds. :-X

Agreed, the Paradise Tower has a (much) darker color scheme. Even the lighting was dark! No chance of reading a newspaper or book in that room! Trendy but I didn't really care for it when I stayed there in September.
Staying there in May and it's back to the Casino Tower for me. I prefer the lighter color scheme.
Regarding THEHotel I stayed there last May. Not sure about the Asian-ish/:O, guess I missed that. Public areas, lobby, lounge etc very dark. Room itself while dark wood themed not as over the top as Paradise Tower at HRH.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
I really liked the suites at TheHotel... the whole area is very upscale.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
I've stayed at the Wynn and it is a very high end gorgeous hotel. The rooms are quite nice - light colors & textures, with comfy, fluffy beds. And who doesn't love a flat screen TV in the bathroom?!
When I stayed there a few years ago on a Fri/Sat night, the rate was close to $400/night. I told the missus that we could come back next time when it was cheaper, like on a Sun/Mon/Tues. I HATE spending alot of $$$ on hotel rooms in Vegas....that cash is much better spent in the SC's or gambling.
Another great thing in it's favor is that it is well within walking distance to the Deja Vu ;)
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
From SF to LV in summer, eh? Well, at least now you won't have to pack a sweater. ;D
Although I have yet to stay at the Wynn,I wouldn't worry too much about the rooms. After Steve Wynn started the Las Vegas themed mega-resort building spree (starting with the Mirage in 1989), he sold out to MGM and purposely built the Wynn with no theme.
However his hotels are designed to specifically cater to the Asian gambler.
The only hotels I would recommend for a less Vegassy feeling than the Wynn would be the Four Seasons at the top of Mandalay Bay, or the recently opened Mandarin Oriental at City Center and maybe, Palazzo (my home away from home). Wynn's service is below FS and MO but at the top for casino-hotels.

Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
You guys seriously rock. My fears have been assuaged. I've been reading some reviews like this:
"To start, I walked into the room and was like, is this room seriously hot dark pink/red in color? Why did Steve Wynn choose that color? Like if they wanted the rooms to be supersexy they could have done a true lacquer red, and if they wanted the rooms to be soothing and chill they could have chosen a light color, but instead they chose this weird crazy hot dark pink that is too garish to be either sexy or soothing. To top off the crazy pink walls they have these orange poor-man's Warhol-esque flower prints on the wall. My painter sensibility does not approve of this palette-- too many bright colors from the same part of the color wheel. It almost felt circusy to me, like being in some kinky Victorian morality play about the dark side of the World's Fair where a girl falls asleep in a gaudy pink candyland and is set upon by sinister clowns."
....which kind of scared me. Furthermore, the photos I've seen make it look not awesome. The Wynn website doesn't really have many pictures, so I kind of made the reservation blindly.
Some of the photos made it look like a Victorian-inspired nightmare.
Thank you SW!!!

I hope I didn't offend with that descriptor. I was referring to the kind of Asian-fusion look that some hotels have. Darker colors, minimalist aesthetic, very clean lines...very much my style.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
I'm excited about the price I got on it! Through Expedia.com, I have 2 round-trip tickets + 3 nights at the Wynn for $860!
I heard one other complaint (online reviews) that the Wynn tried to charge them an extra $100 a day for extra fees?? Has anyone had this experience??

That's a fantastic price! As to the $100 charge that is what is known as an "incidentals hold" . It's a security deposit to ensure the hotel you have available funds if you charge meals to your room or raid the mini-bar in a drunken stupor.
If you pay by credit card and are not near your limit, you will not even be aware of this as they only authorize but do not charge this amount.
However with more people using debit cards instead of CCs, they will freeze $100 of your cash in your account each day. This can cause problems after 4 or 5 days in LV for some, and apparently it can take several days after you return home for your balance to be restored.
If you choose to pay cash, I believe they will want $300 per day but this you can roll over each day at the front desk, provided you cover any charges made the day before.
Regarding room colors- It seems the rooms come in different predominate colors. I've seen references to white, orange, red and earth tones for Wynn. At the newer Encore Tower, it's a black-red combo. Also the furniture at Encore is more modern than the Wynn. I don't care for that 18th cent French style myself, but I've heard the awesomeness of the beds make up for it.
If they offer an upgrade to a panoramic room, it's the same room just on a higher floor. If it's a slow period, you may get upgraded for free just by asking nicely.
Encore guests have their own pool and also can use the Wynn pool. The Wynn guests are limited to the Wynn pool only.
Excellent restaurant choices. On the pricey side, without exception. I always say I can afford to stay at the Wynn, but I can't afford to eat there!
Make sure to sign up for their players' card-the Red Card.
ETA: one other frequent complaint is the noise from the nightclubs (open til 4 am) can be heard in the rooms. Part of this is, like most LV hotels, the windows do not open. However there is a small fresh air vent that people are not aware of, and if left open will allow outside noises to be more readily heard.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
Charlie,
I've stayed @ Wynn and absolutely love the place. Lots of reds due to the Asian theme.
I just got back from staying @ Encore, the attached sister property next door; same owner (Steve Wynn), same designer, and same overall thematic elements.
The rooms are VERY similar. Here are some shots of my room:

Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
I was just barely at the day spa at Wynn ( Encore property ) . Don't get too jealous ( 'cause all I could afford was the $30 day use ). The whole place felt awesome and I'm glad I went. I think you are totally safe with the Wynn. It is very red inside, but it's feels swanky.

I've talked my way out of "resort fee's" before! Just insist that you KNOW it's an all inclusive price and they will just waive it often to just be done with it.
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
Thank you all so, so much. And thank you for the photos, MargaritaVillain! It looks beautiful.
I'm feeling a hell of a lot better about all of this.

Yep resort fees are the new cost recuperating method of the casino/hotels in Vegas.>:( Sometimes it may be worth it if you intend to use the gym or wi-fi. :-\
If you want to avoid them, I think either the MGM or Harrah's Group advertises none of their properties have resort fees, but I forget which one. :-\
Re: Vegas Hotel Advice???
I've stayed at many of the strip hotels. IMO, the Wynn and Bellagio have the nicest standard rooms of all the places I've stayed. Your package price was a great deal IMO, especially with a stay at the Wynn. I don't believe you will be disappointed.
