These r all interesting theories. Unfortunately, you have ALL missed the most basic reason.

Ok, I'll bite: And what, wise sir, is the most basic reason?

I'll give it a shot...the men have a hole in their lives and want somebody to love them. And think that by "saving" a hot young girl from the shitty life of stripping, the hot young girl will love them.
Just a variation on the "removing a thorn from the lion's paw" story.
Joe?

Actually, I typed it up, but decided not to post it. I honestly get tired of reading statements that are either psychobabble or someone saying that because I am a male, I couldn't understand what is going on. There r fundamental basic reasons why this stuff happens. The #1 issue is from basic human nature.

Joe?
If I can paraphrase this by saying that it's the "what's in it for me" then I would put this as the close runner up.

Re: White Knight Syndrome
My guy to Joe's reason: that these guys actually care and want to protect these girls they feel are being exploited?

I would probably be more inclined to believe that if the guy was not thoroughly enjoying the exploitation moments before he had his epiphany.

Exactly...
As far as I'm concerned, and I speak form my own experiences, any guy who cultivates regulars and goes to clubs on a constant basis is looking for something that he is not getting at home. I don't care if he spends a grand a visit, a hundred or if he just "sits with his friends". I'm not ashamed of the fact that I used strippers and strip clubs to cultivate mock-intimacy that was lacking on the home front for the last dozen or so years of my marriage. Hell, strippers, and later escorts, helped me survive a situation that I was trapped in for many years. Now that I'm out of it I still enjoy the no-strings aspect of being friends with women who are not really looking for a serious relationship and, even if they are, enjoy the company of a harmless old fart who just want a little affection....and pussy...
So where does it go wrong? The cross-over from lonely guy with a wallet to white knight happens when the guy loses sight of reality. I've known lots of strippers. I've befriended dozens. I've taken some on trips, lent money to a few, helped a few move, put my name on a few apartment rental applications as a reference, paid a few for sex...etc, etc. But I've done it all with my eyes wide open. I've never expected anything other than a fair ROI in exchange for my time, money and trust and I've always gotten exactly that from the women I chose to go down that path with.
The guys who think that money will buy them more than a good time are delusional. Unless you are a true sugar daddy a dancer is not going to quit dancing for you and even then it's going to cost you big, provided she is even being honest with you about it. Thinking that you can "save" a woman from an occupation she has chosen is not a reality based way to approach strip clubs or strippers. Be a good customer. If you are then you may end up being a good friend as well but only if you are true friend and not a judgmental douche who can't get past the stereotypes.
BTW, White Knighthood is not reserved for strip clubs only. You should see some of the losers who show up on TER trying to play captain save-a-ho...
Clueless...absolutely clueless...

Re: White Knight Syndrome
I think you've got to look at the 'availability' angle as well. The tendency to be a white night is in direct proportion to the youth and prettiness of the damsel in distress.
Out in the real world, damsels in distress are in short supply, and even if they exist, they have an annoying tendency to be aided by younger, wealthier and better looking Sir Galahads.
In a strip club, 'damsels in distress' appear to be in more plentiful supply - lots of pretty girls that a guy can convince himself are down on their luck and need 'rescuing'. So if a guy with white knight syndrome comes into a club, he'll soon find a 'damsel in distress' - and have that feeling reinforced when many dancers play up to the misconception.....

A prime cause of white knight syndrome. If you spend a significant sum in a strip club, you tend to want to justify that spending to yourself and "I'm trying to save a dancer" seems a better internal justification than "I spent my money on a dancer who won't even remember me tomorrow".
Phil.

Phil-W, this is one of your more sillier theories. The customer wants to justify spending money on a dancer by being a White Knight. That's just totally ridiculous. ::)
Some reasons for White Knightism, IMO, is arrogance or condescension towards the dancer. Could be Customer Shit - passive aggressive behavior, making himself feel superior to the dancer.
If the customer is spending a significant amount of money on a dancer, which means he's her regular, then she'll probably remember who he is just for business' sake. Who knows, she may even enjoy the guy's company. To say that the dancer will totally forget a good spending regular the next day is nonsense.
The OP is an example of White Knightism. He's trying to rescue the dancers from these awful customers, ironically, White Knights. Phil-W is another classic White Knight who tries to rescue the dancers on this forum from all sorts of awful customers. :D
