Quit after 2 months. Missing it bad. Rant.
Hey gals.
I quit dancing after 2 months because of health issues. My club wouldn't let me work less than 32 hours and I have my internship on top of that. 42 hours of work, plus spending an average of 15-20 hours a week at art school. I was losing sleep and because my club is a smoke club my immune system was shot, and suffered more because of lack of sleep.
I got sick twice in one month because of fatigue and my cigarette smoke allergy; the second time I was bedridden for 5 days and my doctor ordered me out of work at the club for a month (Told me "You need to get to 100% and focus on STAYING at 100% for awhile). So I decided I'd better quit until at least the summer. I was missing too much school.
Ever since, I've found myself missing it. Not even missing the money, really, although I've never made that much money in one week ever. I just miss the dancing and a few of my regulars. I lost about 10 lbs and I've gained about 5 back ever since quitting.
I want to go back so bad for summer break. The state of Kansas will be going smoke free in July, the only exceptions being private membership clubs, exclusive cigar smoke lounges and cigarette stores. My internship knows that I danced and wouldn't be opposed to me doing it so long as it was just for summer break (the health issues took a toll on my performance there, too). I'll be working about 20 hrs/week at my internship in the summer, but I don't know if I can handle 52 hours of work a week. The internship is very important for my transcript and resume but the pay really is shit and my college savings fund is getting low. I need to replenish it because I refuse to pull out student loans.
What would any of you do in my situation??

Are there any other clubs that don't require you to work so much? You could also try private parties. It's not exactly the same but you would be stripping, making money, and more in control of your hours. So I guess just look around and see what other options are before committing to just this one.
It's great that Kansas is going smoke free! I wouldn't be able to strip in a smokey club either.

I've been in a situation very similar to yours when I was in college. Art is one of those things that you can't do last minute and you really need to be healthy and in a good frame of mind to succeed at it. If I were you I'd stick to what you are doing now and take some striptease classes, possibly join a burlesque troupe to get the performance part out of your system.

I'm so sorry about the scheduling requirements. WHY do clubs DO THIS ? They would have a better selections of girls if they would be more accomodating. I've run into the same problems in San Francisco ( my current club in WY doesn't require schedules - which is how strippin' SHOULD BE ) . UGH .... I hate schedules. So basically ... my recommendation would be to find a club without one OR talk to your manager and see if they will make an exception for you. 20 hours at internship + 20 at the club ( like .... 3 7's or 2 10's ) just seems like enough.

I really really like the club that I worked at. The girls were nice, the atmosphere of the club itself was laid back... the other two clubs in town are nothing like it and much more hostile.
When I worked for my two months, they already made one exception for me because I was a student but as a result, they increased my house fee since I didn't come in as often as the other girls. Sigh.
