I saw that last night. I have a male friend who lives down there and always said the clubs there were horrible - too strict of laws as it was.
:(
my favorite quote: "Bartle says he's most concerned with adult businesses that build and advertise along major highways.
“It just sends the signal that we're that type of people here, and it's totally and completely wrong,” he said."
i like that... we dont want people to think we are the type of people who ... like women? ::)
also what is with these 6 foot rules... i feel like that is extremely dehumanizing. its like in a zoo... stay away from the lions! Dont feed the tigers! except in a strip club... Stay 5 feet from the strippers! Dont tip the naked girls!
:(
We also had to wear pasties in the alcohol joints, but at the other end of the spectrum, they could grope in the juice bars. I do feel compelled to note: In Missouri I was top of the food chain. I found my niche finally after moving there and I started doing really well.
im sorry that blows. thats how i felt when prop 52 was upheld in cleveland... at this point i was settled into a club that i loved and was doing very solidly. Then it passed and i had to go work in P-burgh because i was afraid of legal consequences...
and the restrictions there werent nearly as strict as the ones in missouri.
im kinda bummed too, i wanted to work in STL at some point.
well, lets keep our fingers crossed that the SCs in missouri get enough money together to bribe some sense into the lawmakers.
Whats funny is that for such a "God fearing populace" Missouri has a thriving pagan and gay community. Springfield is known as the "San Fransisco of the midwest" best of all there is a baptist church next to the porn shop. (literally)
What a joke! Really...Like Congress doesn't have anything else better to do but to put the kibosh on sexually oriented businesses????
So much for my greener pasture! I may get out there before this damn thing takes effect
That fucking sucks. My hubby is from Saint Louis and we love going to the clubs when we visit there. We mostly go to East STL though, it's actually in Illinois isn't it?
Yes, East St. Louis is in Illinois. The main clubs are in the small towns of Sauget, Brooklyn, Washington Park, and Centerville, outside of East St. Louis.
There are some clubs in the City of St. Louis but I think they are stage only, no contact, and require pasties.
The "Eastside" has traditionally been a less restrictive area dating back to the days prior to Prohibition.
Aren't most of the MO clubs non nude already?
My first time trying to paste a link, I hope it works lol. This article has a few lines in it that are so funny, in sad little way :-) "They have become an embarrassment" and "all of that lap dancing stuff" WTF?! Your embarrassed about your own sexuality? OMG
Kansas city area clubs are really slow already, there is very little money. I haven't been working in KC for almost a month and a half now, so I'm kinda out of the loop. What I've heard is that the KCMO clubs will renovate to accommodate the new laws later this year...however I am guessing this will cause an influx of girls to the KS side. This BS is why I travel to dance elsewhere.
BTW Houston has the 6ft rule and, as far as I have learned on this board, extra's are huge there, right? I wonder what will really happen with the clubs and the girls trying to make a living working in them...the economy is in a bad position already and they want to put us out of work?! This is BS, strippers make the world go round. Don't they know that?!
This is why there should be some type of Union to protect Adult Nightclub workers from ridiculous legislation and poorly run clubs.
The "mainstream" will never take this Industry seriously until it starts policing itself.
Club owners have taken advantage of the lack of structure to the point where, we as workers look bad and therefore the entire Industry is frowned on. Stripping really is an art. Its artist should be protected just like musicians and actors. Someone needs to to clean this Industry up before it implodes.
Haha at not liking women. Our society is so awkward with it's sexuality. It's okay to like teh boobs! Oh and dear heavens! A strip club near a church!! What about a house near a church where behind closed doors a married couple participates in loud kinky sex?? ::)
Has anyone commented on the article? Just curious.
Hi my name is Harleigh and I'm a stripclubaholic. I have a problem. Strip clubs turned me into an outspoken raging sex crazed lesbian Dominatrix drunkard who can't get enough satanic lesbian orgies!! oh noes! Someone help me back into the kitchen and remove my shoes before I am lost forever!! I have babies to make and quilts to knit!!!!! Who is churning the butter while I'm out having wild stripper parties?!?!?
I think Alabama had something of this affect a few years ago. Seems like several clubs were shut the fuck down because of the laws getting stricter and stricter. It sucks hardcore. :(
I couldn't see the link but anyway most of the clubs are in Il. The ones in St. louis aren't really worth your time. no lap dances and you have to wear pasties. I used to work at one before the ressecion. It was ok, cause the guys would come in for lunch, but they started getting laid off and I went to the east side.
So the east side is fine, but there is no smoking in il. Although some of the clubs still allow it. hush hush.
Ok I just read it. It didn't work the first few times I tried to click it. Hmmm..... I was always told to stay out of springfield and that the clubs were dirty and that there was no money. I don't know, I'm just repeating what like 40 girls have told me, and I figure they can't all be lying. I wish someone had warned me to stay my black ass out of Columbia Missouri. Well, the dude who owned the club tried to warn me, but I had driven two hours and wouldn't listen.
Anyway, I'm Rambling this sux for springfield girls and till everyone can find a regular job again they need to leave us dancing girls the fuck alone!
You know whats funny (not funny haha but ironic) is half the politicians in this country probably go to strip clubs and if not they are caught with hookers or mistresses or in visiting other countries for diplomatic purposes they use taxpayers dollars that are meant for their trip in negotiating forign policy which instead is wasted in negotiating with a hooker or at a strip club. Talk about a double standard (those with power and money can do what they want....filthy bastards>:()
But now they are trying to look like they are looking out for the best interests of the people and families but theyre only looking out for their wallets and extra votes whatever gets them ahead:(
All it takes to pass these bills is a moralist who want to dominate others and a few more politicians feeling guilty about what you just said above and a few more sensitive about what their wives are telling them out of fear for their own marriages. And then you have a bill. And the moralist busy-bodies win once again.
The obvious key to this thing is politics. A letter or a phone call gives you 1000 times as much influence over things as someone who only complains to their friends and votes every four years. Express your citizen rights to influence events that concern you. not only vote the creeps out of office, but make their positions look foolish and self-serving.
And if that doesn't work , then you need to get out of Dodge City. Because they are not your kind of people.
Missouri is already a shitty state to dance in. Rayna, I'm not surprised you didn't take a liking to dancing in Columbia. Just a bunch of rude college kids. What really bothers me is this quote:
“It just sends the signal that we're that type of people here, and it's totally and completely wrong,” he said.
Wouldn't closing them down send a similarly presumptuous signal, by his logic? Why would we not have a vote on this?
All this comes down to is the government limiting our freedoms. Personally, I was under the impression that we were living in America. I'm starting to take all of this freedom propaganda as sarcasm.
Strip clubs aside, it is ridiculous that they want to limit porn shops. The hours thing I do not get in the least. If it is really such an evil and morally reprehensible concept, why would you let it be open during the day? I would actually have more respect if they tried to pass a bill that banned adult businesses altogether, considering that is what they are trying to achieve. But that would be too honest, and bring too much light to the issue of how fucked up this is. I fucking hate discrimination. I mean, I have to deal with all of their damned churches everywhere.
