i hope someone answers this because I'm pretty much gonna start out the exact same way, except i may have a little money. good question @ glamourgeekgoddess
Where there's a will there's a way. I worked ay a dive for my first club, dayshift, and all my dance wear came from a thrift store and I had to refinish it. I didn't even have a pair of shoes. I went up in thigh highs and no shoes. I made a hundred dollars that day and the first thing I did was buy a pair of real dance shoes. I just kept going and building my wardrobe from there. I took the bus to work for a while too. That was several years ago......
Like I said, where there's a will, there's a way.
Good luck!
Doing it now. It is possible. The club I'm working at has a Hotel above it - rents to dancers for under $200/week - first week waved for me after some negotiating to work 6/days a week. I walk everywhere. I'm making friends. I'm eating super cheap. Just bought a mini fridge and a electric kettle for my room a few days ago, so I have cold drinks and oatmeal now. Om nom nom.
It's possible to do with enough drive and creativity. The best advice I can give would be to enjoy the process of re-building your life as much as you can - it really is fun to start from scratch. Nothing to lose. You'll gain confidence in yourself and your ability to look after yourself. Don't think of all the things you don't have or the things you left behind - focus on what you're gaining everyday.
I took the train to work and worked a double shift each time in order to make it worth my while. Once I had saved a bit, I bought a POS car that I could use to get there easier and work more shifts. Once I was settled with that I bought a better, reliable car so that I could work the shifts I wanted, and here I am now. :)
:shy: Thank you ladies for sharing, it's very encouraging. ^_^
Most likely take a taxi. I'd rather not have an assload of ppl seeing me get off the bus at a strip club lol. I'm kinda skeptical about the whole public transportation thing cuz I've seen mixed advice. Some dancers say always take a cab so customers don't know your car, but then I've seen that you shouldn't. What about you?
Stripping is one of the rare jobs in the WHOLE WORLD where you can get money TODAY . So .... go audition and work TODAY and get some money. In San Francisco, I would take the bus to get to work and take a cab back from work. I'd just start out by going to the club closest to you to make it as easy as possible.
For what its worth, I have been dancing for two years, and I never, ever have had a problem both using the train/cab when I started, or when I drove there in my own car. Or, when I used a cab to stay at a local hotel rather than get the train home when I was exhausted. If you have good bouncers to keep you safe leaving the club, you should be fine :)
Hmmm...I just moved to Dallas and I don't have a lot of friends, I do have money and a car though.
ANYTHING is possible if you put your mind to it. You will find a way to get it done if you decide to do it.
Yup. All of the above(except I had a substantial amount of money). I started off with a car but it got totaled the first week into my new city. :/
At my club, 'proper' dance shoes are mandatory - you might want to check the clubs you want to work at for their shoe rules. Also, walking around barefoot is a major no-no rules-wise, and honestly, I would NOT want to walk around a strip club barefoot (ewwness).
there were a lot of things that I definately had no idea about before I found this board and just reading and researching has helped me out a whole lot
I'm scared of the bus since I have only rode it three times in my life and one was when I was a newborn, lol. Buuuut it's never to late to learn I suppose.
Um... I might try to befriend someone and pay them a weekly gas fund or something when I start making some money. I can't really afford to do the cab thing. *sigh*
you're not by yourself lol i'm from a tiny ass town and it's gonna be my first time EVER living in an actual city. I'm scared shitless. I took a train once when I was visiting atlanta. I just don't like sharing that space with so many ppl. I'm use to riding alone I guess.
Thanks luv! Same to you *big hug*
have you picked your stage name and all that already?
Yay! lol is this gonna be your first club?
