So a club doesn't hire you, come back later?
I'm looking to start dancing in SF soon. I've been hitting the gym lately to drop some weight I've gained recently (10 lbs gone woot woot), but I'm still working about making my legs/ass firmer before I audition. I'm in pretty good shape already, but I'm still 5-10 lbs away from strutting around in a thong. I'd probably be ok now if I wasn't so pale; every extra lb does make a difference.
I'm worried about being turned away from clubs in SF after getting back into my comfortable weight because of how intense it is right now. I know that if I got waif-thin I'd be fine, but I'd rather strip my way to a size 0 than spend hours at the gym.
So let's say that I'm not hired anywhere in a month. Is it normal to keep coming back until you are hired? What if I'm turned away from some of the better clubs but hired at a seedier club? Can I keep auditioning at a nice club until they hire me, or will they not even let me audition?
Re: So a club doesn't hire you, come back later?
i'm a newbie looking for a club as well :) i would say to start with the "middle of the road" clubs; you know the one's that aren't nasty but not too ritzy either. as a newbie i don't see anything wrong with starting with the average club and then working your way up to a ritzy club. however if you're comfortable enough, never hurts to try that upscale club down the road...worst thing they can do is say "no" and then you get hired at a diff club. if one club won't take you there is almost always another one that will.

^^ What Kitten said. There is always going to be a club that will hire you, and even if its not ideal, at least you can make some money there, get experience and be working out while you do it, as well as keeping going to the gym. Then later you can hit up your ideal club again. If you wait more than a month, they probably won't even remember that you auditioned previously. I would start at a middle-ish club, theres no sense in only trying at the seedier clubs when a middle club might have said yes. And you might even wanna try at the top clubs too. When I started dancing I wasn't confident in my looks and had no experience, and I figured I would try at all the clubs in town, hopefully get hired at a middle club, and if not I'd settle for a dive club. The first club I went to was the top club in my town, just because they could see me for an audition first, and I got hired. When I think about how I could so easily have overlooked them and just aimed for a seedy club, I'm SO glad I gave it a shot!

Thanks again. One last question- What if I don't make the house fee? I know I'm not going to walk away with much money at first and I'm really scared of owing the club money at the end of a shift. Will they give me a break?
Re: So a club doesn't hire you, come back later?
The majority of clubs will waive your house fee the first night. There was even a few clubs back in Vegas that waived them for a week. :)
I found out here in cow country that only one club waived house fees my first night. :/
Guess it depends on where you are. Good luck!! :)
Re: So a club doesn't hire you, come back later?
I've heard SF is especially tough, that sucks!!
At most clubs they waive your house fee the first night, but after that you're responsible for it. At my club, if you don't think you're gonna make it, bring it with you. If you work until closing time and still don't have it, you get suspended.

This is what I did...St. James Cabaret (Houston, Texas) puts you on a "30 day weight loss suspension plan" if you gain too much weight or are too heavy period. Well, I have lost five pounds in two weeks (healthy diet and good young genes!)....anyway, Jeff, the manager was SOOO sweet to me whenever I spoke to him about dancing there for dayshift. Anyway, he actually flagged my papers/application and REMEMBERED ME whenever I called two weeks later!! (must have been the red lipstick and pale skin) WELL, he has worked with me very very much and we cracked a deal with each other. You might be able to do something like this with a nicer club if the manager is receptive to it. This is what I did....
*this is yesterday's chat with Jeff via phone...here is the dialog in a nutshell*
"Jeff! hey! It's Danielle, the girl with the..."
"red lipstick!! I remember you! You're gorgeous!! You wanted to work day shift didnt you? You came like two weeks or so ago...."
"hahaha!! Yep, that is me! I can't believe you remembered me! weird! Look I was thinking since I'd really really love to be a dancer at your club...would you perhaps hire me a little heavier than preferred, but still let me work? And here is what I thought you'd be receptive to-"
"yea, what is it hon? I remember all that I thought needed to be changed was your midsection...that was it. Because everything else is fine! I mean, I'd need to see what you look like now of course, but I could hire you a LITTLE heavier..."
"HERE IS WHAT I WAS THINKING THOUGH JEFF, PUT ME ON THE 30 DAY WEIGHT LOSS SUSPENSION PLAN WHEN YOU HIRE ME AND LET ME WORK! *laughs* think about it! That way it's a win/win situation...you get me to work for you & I lose weight so I can keep my job there and make you look good by losing weight because I want to work for this club so much and so badly, and I make money & lose weight from working there which helps me personally! I personally thought it was a good idea, you know?"
"wow! that is an awesome idea! I'd love for you to come in this coming week or the week after, whenever you feel comfortable with yourself....and then we'll meet where we met last time, in the lobby...and I'll take a look at you in your clothing and see how everything looks. We can go from there...but I woud definitely hire you as soon as I could. I mean, I told you already I remembered you and that I've kept a place for you on my desk so I could call you soon, but you appear to really be driven and to have listened to me. I like that. Yea, I'll check you out, and even if you've lost weight but aren't quite there yet, I'll hire you, put you on the 30 day weight loss plan and then we'll 'both win' as you say. haha!" *told ya girls, he's a sweetheart*
"I promise to you that if I did not get to the look you wanted from me in 30 days, I'd not put up a fight if you benched me."
*he laughed.*
"you won't get benched silly! haha! okay! well, come in soon Danielle!"
"Alright, til then! see ya Jeff! Thank you so much for working with me!"
*click*
SO, my point to this WHOLE STORY is perhaps a club will work with you if you can't work at the club of your choice because of weight, capacity filled, etc. Just explain your eagerness to work at that particular club and ASK THEM WHAT YOU NEED TO CHANGE if it's a body issue, that kind of thing. LISTEN TO THEIR REQUEST, fix it, and keep persuing! Don't let someone ever stop you from doing what you want.
hell...I did not let my mother stop me. If my mom can't keep me from stripping...then a club certainly can't...because Lord knows my mother is much more stern and scary to deal with!

You could try your luck outside of the city, but there's only topless places.
One would be The Hanky Panky which is in Redwood City and very much the dive bar. But the people who go there are not shady and mostly locals and it's an okay place if your just wanna get your feet wet and practice your hustle.
A friend of mine is working there now and if I remember right, tipout is $40/night and $60/night for the DJ. She makes on average $150 or more a night, however, she knows that she could make more but she refuses to hustle for it. They do require you to work a minimum of 3 days though.

Dude. I worked with some 160-180 pound girls at the Hungry I ( one weekend I was just in the mood to work this club for some reason ). I bet you could easily get hired there since I'd consider a few of the girls more like 25-30 pounds away from "thong ready". Some were " traditional stripper" looking, but all body types are represented including bigger bodies which I think is great. Not the greatest money potential, but why not work out WHILE earning money instead of just working out in the gym for free ? You don't need to be a size 0 to dance. I will warn you in advance that there are many non-tippers here ( like 1/3 of the guys don't tip at all and management does nothing to encourage them to ). I felt like that ratio was pretty bad ( just so that you know seriously like 1/3 won't spend more than like $5 outside their booze money ) .
