Possibly they refer to house fees as rent? Lots of clubs seem to offer a certain amount of time or shifts from your hiring date that you do not have to pay house fees.
Other than that, can't think of what they might mean. Better ask.
It may also mean that they have the option to work as an employee...which is NOT a good option because then THEY keep all the dance money and pay you minimum wage.
^Oooooooo good to know!
Rent is the house fee because you are renting space from the club.
Some clubs have an incentive program where you don't pay house fee if you work on a schedule, work a set number of days per week, or come in before a certain time.
Yep, call and ask. It's probably a free stage fee for a few nights or something while you get started.
Legally, the relationship between the dancer and club is that of "tenant" and "landlord", respectively.
If you sign a contract w/ the club to have "independent contractor" status (aka get hired), and if you read the fine print, that is how the relationship will be described.
How the club ACTUALLY treats us is another story, however :P
or it could just mean that they offer you a room to stay in above the club. Some clubs have motels attached to them and offer dancers discounted room rates or "free" rooms if dancing there for more then a few days.
It probably means house fees, but not always mean being an employee. Years ago one club would give us free house if we sold a set amount of drinks or VIP. Since I normally did this, I often didn't have to pay house. I would be a little leery because a few clubs were offering free rent because they didn't have many customers.
I completely forgot about this situation. I once worked at a club that if you worked a certain amount of time you got a free room. Since I didn't live far (and since I'd never live where I worked) this didn't pertain to me.
I've found it to mean, "No house fees--we'll find another way to take money from you."
Also, I went to work at a club in Worcester that ran an ad like this and when I got there, they were charging house fees anyway and just claimed that it was an old ad. Dude, your club runs that ad in the local dancers' magazine every fucking 3 months. (This was years ago.)
I have also found it to mean no house fees.
