I think it's more of number 2 quite honestly. I've seen a lot of the rough-looking moneymakers and they're either promising something they shouldn't, or DOING something they shouldn't.

I like to invest in myself but find more economical ways to do it. I'll do my beauty routine and costs in measurements of monthly cost.
I get my hair cut, dyed, and styled once a month at a reputable beauty school 20 minutes away from my home. ($36 versus $150 in a salon).
I use the glue-on nails from walmart or a grocery store, that actually look better than when I had acrylics put on! I get them in all kinds of funky designs too. I apply them once a week. They look nicer, take less time to put on than acrylics or fills, and don't damage your natural nails. ($15 a month versus $60 a month getting them done in a salon)
I do at-home face masques and hair masques once a week, and once a month will go to the same beauty school to get this done ($25 a month versus $150+ at a spa)
I also do at-home pedicures and get my toes done at the same beauty school once a month--they even paraffin dip my feet!! ($20 a month versus $40 at a spa)
I have a tanning membership at planet fitness where I can also tan as part of the membership. I go about 3x a week for an hour and a half, doing stretching, cardio, and strength. ($20 a month, gym/tanning memberships vary across the board)
I get an hour long massage at that same beauty school once a month as well. ($30 versus 100)
So in a month, I only spend about $150 on beauty and body maintenance as opposed to $500+ that these treatments would cost in professional salons and spas.
Its not that I don't have the money to spend on these things, I'd just rather keep the money in my pocket and save that for a rainy day or when my dancing days run out. The money in the bank feels way better than any fancy salon/spa treatment when I can do it on my own or at a beauty school for a lower price.
A lot of people are afraid to go to beauty schools to get treatments. Just find a reputable one in your area. They are trained with the latest techniques and their instructor watches them the whole time.
I'm hoping to get a boob job by Christmas, but I will DEFINITELY not pinch pennies on that. I will spend whatever it takes to get the right doctor and the right surgery for my body.
One of the best investments you can make is about who you are on the inside. Being a good actress, projecting confidence, using your common sense and having good sales skills are money making essentials. When guys go to a strip club they want to hear their fantasy; not your reality.
I have seen girls who are super perfect be turned down countless times. Some times it's because they did not have good sales skills, sometimes it's because the guy has some weird little fetish that he is looking for. When I say super perfect - I'm talking about centerfolds and bikini models being turned down for someone who looks like the Michelin man. There was a girl I knew a few years ago who had terrible hair, she was overweight and she did not have nice outfits; but she made a lot of money because she was a great sales person. I have seen a few girls of African ancestry who wear their hair natural and make lots of money because they were unique. Most girls of African ancestry wear wigs and extensions. I have seen girls of European ancestry who are pale white make lots of money because they were unique. Most girls of European ancestry do a fake tan.
Of course there are plenty of times where the less attractive girls will dance for less money or turn tricks. Obviously that does happen. But- some of those girls are just very smart and they know how to ask the right questions to find out what the guy is looking for. Once they know what act the guy is looking for, they just play what ever role the guy wants.
^very true. Also some guys are just intimidated by the 10s. I know some good all-rounder 10s and of course they still get turned down. Sometimes for ugly chicks. I guess some guys feel more comfortable with someone more at their level or maybe they plan to try and get the girl home and think they have a better chance with a 3 or 4.
But in my experience big spenders or regulars with lots of money.. still want someone who is polished inside and outside.
I used to spend thousands a month on makeup, outfits, shoes, tanning, nails, jewelry, conditioners, creams, massages, hair extensions. hair done, vacations, .... blah blah....and yes, it dbuy a house...efinately makes you more money... but you can still spend less...save more, and invest in an education, or buy a house, or do something less frivilous with your money..
^or do both :)
Omg yes hair is actually extremely important. Iknew a girl who made like 300 more/night after changing up her hairstyle. Also I noticed I have been making more money after wearing pigtails. I got laser hair removal on my bikini area and it is very smooth. I suggest that too. Costed me about 800 for 6 sessions. Was worth it!
I'll get my hair cut, buy outfits as I need them, buy a couple pairs of shoes, some accessories, decent make up, and maybe a pedicure and manicure once a month--but I'm not wearing fake nails. They make it hard for me to text, open cans of red bull, and light my cigarettes. They wind up causing me discomfort and damage my nails underneath. I personally don't like them and refuse to be inconvenienced in my home life (i.e. smoking, texting, and drinking my beloved red bull) so some PL can glance at my nails.
If me not having fake nails is a deal breaker then I didn't want to dance for you anyway, because that's not me and I do intend on still showing some of my true colors at work. There's a difference between creating a fantasy and completely going against who you are at the core.
Wow im not even a dancer yet! It feels great to see that other s stay on top of what most call "high maintenance" my mother always tells me "girrrl you cant even afford you" lol
Head to Toe Investing: High-Maintenance or not
1)Eyelash extensions!!!!! (You know how articles in magazines say STEAL or SPLURGE when reviewing a product?) Well, I just know that the effect of professionally applied, glamour eyelashes will reap huge rewards in the club and double takes when your out and about in daylight hours!
2) Something done to your nails, even at home. But a weekly ritual of pampering your hands and polishing natural nail clear (or otherwise), plus the filing, pushing back the cuticles (is that still a go or is still frowned on, btw)
3) A GREAT hairstyle that a) suits your alter ego, not terribly difficult to maintain on your own between touch-ups, and which b) can be toned down sufficiently when you can't let the mane wave at everybody too much!
4)Skin care:Research Products for their likelihood of meeting your needs for your skin. For body/acne scars, try cover up and treatment products like Mederma, etc....
5) A pair of very distinctive strippah shoes. Doesn't have to be expensive to be unique. Just awesome. Guys see a lot of dancers' feet...And it would not be a very fun day if you found yourself feeling like the farm hand.. and, yet, far from the pedi-goddesses.
6) Oh, ummm...and a really strong gum, mint, spray, etc if you smoke (shh!lol) and try to keep your hair pulled back while smoking so that the smell is minimized.
7) Incoporate the dreaded 'work out' in gradual activites throughout the day: Go for a walk, bike rideGo to the teack at the nearest community or university college and reeeeeallly run.....Til youre wsy too tired, feeling injured and unloved. Momentarily at least. That short stint of hard-as-u-can training I would gander to be a marker/trigger for what you should be lke in the club. You're there to have a money-making party and they're your guests.....So then, just get on out to selling
Hmm, Ive always done my own hair, reckon I'll pay a visit to a salon when I go back to the stripclub.
A mani and pedi in pillarbox red always makes me feel badass!
Excuse the spelling errors and giddiness in my post above. I'll let it stand, because it still conveys the intended message. But I was also a bit tipsy while preparing for bed when I wrote it....eek! Drunk typing FAIL.
Oh, and if you can do your hair really well, then you may not want to bother with the salon. I just know from personal experience that I should never rely on my hair expertise as I can never create the look I'm going for on my own!
X-Pole or Platinum Stages.
Heres a couple articles about how to choose your pole

X-Pole is coming out with a brass pole in October/November-ish
Personally I have a 50mm chrome x-pole that I loove. I want the brass one when it comes out too
oh good i thought im the only one spending all the money i earn on 'anouk'
i have a new outfit every week
im a bit behind on beauty i need my extensions redone, colour, mani pedi, and since i had a horrible experience at a waxing salon im going to start doing it at home.
you could say lingerie sets, hoisery and jewellery are my biggest money downfall
Don't buy a brand of makeup just because it's expensive. You can get a cheap eye shadow that is just as pigmented as MAC or UD. It's a matter of doing your research (and using primer). Foundation and concealer, however, are well worth spending some extra money. Your skin is going to be depending on those products being gentle.
If you find yourself in pain a lot from your feet and legs being in uncomfortable positions all night (fuck you, Barbie feet!) get a pedicure. Not just a nail grooming, but a 45-60min massage/scrub/mudmask/hot towel pedicure. Do it. It makes everything so much better.
If you have really coarse dark hair, laser hair removal is worth every fucking penny.
Best investment I ever made was going to college for my degree and buying a house in the middle of the economic downturn... but as far as tax write-off investments...
acrylic nails, sephora makeup, new outfits a few times a month, new flat iron every 6 months (my hair kills irons), tanning, salon hair treatments, gas, 1978 chevy truck haha, vitamins, gym membership, ... and anything else I can count as a write off lol::)
Ok, a more detailed list (for a different website in order to demonstrate the cost of stripping, even if you don't do expensive stuff to your hair etc):
Pedicures1-2x/mo with $10 tip...$45-90/month, $540-1080/year
Bi-monthly haircuts with tip...$40/2 months, $240/year
New foundation, concealer, mascara, liner, lip stuff...$10-20/month, $120-240/year
New dancer shoes every 6 months (average)...$35-70
New thongs every few months (they either get worn or disappear)...$10-36
Baby-wipes (I NEVER use these outside of work)...$60/year
Gum (seriously)...$10-15/month
New outfits...$20-150/year (depends on club changes, wear and tear, etc)
Eyebrow waxing every 3-4 months...$60-80/year
Gym membership (pretty much just for the use of a steam room, but I sometimes exercise a bit) ...$58/month, $650/year
My one big high-maintenance expense is my laser hair removal, because shaving gave me really painful ingrowns but waxing cost $50-100/month. $2200 for my brazillian and armpits, over 12 months interest free. I paid it off in 11 months in $200 increments. I am now doing my lower legs (although I never really bothered shaving them once I realized most guys never notice my hair, but it's for my future tattoos), which is costing me $1445. So I'm paying $145/month so it can be paid before the interest kicks in.
How long does eyelash extensions last for you? I want to get them real bad but I'm afraid it would only last 2 weeks at most and be a total waste of time/money.
I do all of my own hair and sometimes I'll paint my nails myself. Usually they are unpainted. Yes *gasp*! The rest of me is very primped so no one even notices my nails or toes. I have nice real nails though. They're just regular oval shaped nails I guess.
I do a really good job with makeup and can make myself look like a total doll, and I don't like tans so that also saves myself money on tanning salons.
I don't even dance anymore and I still pretty much do the exact same upkeep as I did when I was. My husband loves it. And I feel better about it.
I always wear nice outfits and believe in looking polished. I scour the web to find clothes that are different and unique. I only wear dresses now, because my belly isn't as tight as it used to be (darn kids). I always make sure I wear something flattering, and I NEVER wear black. I only wear colors that glow against my skin. I invest in nice shoes and make up.
I personally could never bring myself to wear Target bras or underwear. I just couldn't do it. I may not buy MAC, but I always wear bronzer, eye makeup, and lip gloss. I have never used any foundation or ever had my nails/feet done. I polish my toenails, and I just keep hands filed neatly.
I do my own hair. I have naturally long, thick hair, so I don't use any extensions. Its not difficult for me because I've been doing it myself for years now. I simply cannot stand sitting is some salon and overpaying, when I usually feel more satisfied with the results when I do it myself.
I have breast implants. I will invest in more plastic surgery in the future. I definetely want bigger boobs!
I don't need to tan, cuz I'm black.
I don't wear any perfume that is popular or the usual body sprays that everyone else wears. I will go and find something different. I hate the smell of any fruity, coconuty, cotton candy walmart body spray. I know some girls have good results with it, but I like a nice perfume.
I always have gum, mints, baby wipes, and plenty of changes of outfits. I own a ton of outfits. I am a hygeine nazi at work. I will never understand why some dancers smell at work. I freshen up and reapply deoderant at least every hour. I could never use the bathroom and not use a baby wipe while working.
Yes, I do pretty much the same. Lately I have been getting a massage at least once a week. It helps my overall mood and attitude in the club.
I don't do any of the upkeep any more because it's toxic.
I get ready at home. I do not want to be in an enclosed dressing room with no ventilation and someone is spraying an entire can of spay tan on themselves.
The best investment you can make is what you do outside of the club.
Fake nails are not going to make you more money.
Not to hate on anyone I've already spray tanned and had many fills in my life. It doesn't translate to more money in most cases.
Read on my website that if you really feel the need to do these things there are alternatives.
Exotic Dancing in a down economy - More!
The best investment is exercising, eating right and furthering your academic and financial education.
^ This is my take on things too.
I don't even damage my hair by straightening/curling it anymore. Getting ready for me takes minimal effort. I shave well, hairspray my curly hair, and do my makeup all nice n' pretty with drugstore makeup. No nails, no tan, nothing. I want this job to negatively affect my money as little as possible. I've never noticed more primped girls making more money than I do.
