so, other than BC pills, i dont know many methods for lessenimg your period (though i think depo tends to, but all i hear are complaints about that stuff).
As for BC that lessened my period:
Well, i've been on seasonale (where you get your period only 4x a year) pretty much since it came out. love it! and, tons of doctors agree it is fine to lessen your periods. the fact is, on the pill (or most hormonal BC) the period you are having is "fake" in the sense that you are not ovulating.
I find it extremely effective. I dont forget to take pills, but i do often take them 2hr or so before or after the same time each day. I love that i can schedule my period for times when it wont fuck with my sex life. I also have unprotected sex (w/ one guy, please, no one jump on me) regularly. that is before i even list all the extra stuff it has helped me with. No side effects either.
I would hurt the person who took my pills away, lol.
I have Mirena (an IUD) I havnt gotten my period since I got it but my doctors say its safe and i should have no problem having kids later, plus i like that you cant forget to take it or anything and it lasts for 5 years.
Just what I use and I've had no problems.. maybe something to consider..
It really depends on YOUR body. I have heard girls get their period while on IUD, some don't at all. I got off BC pills, and when I did it really screwed with my cycle, so I am not going that route. I am getting a copper IUD the next couple of months, no hormones, I don't mind my period though.
I have been on the birth control pill Microgestin for over a year and it made my periods lighter and lighter until one month, after about a year of use, the period just went away. No weight loss or gain. Whenever I try to go a few days without a pill to see if I will get a period again, I get very painful headaches that do not go away until I take my pill. Hormone withdrawl maybe? Either way, I feel like my body is addicted to the pill now.
oh i totally agree it depends on your body. i had the pill where you get your period 4 times a year for a year first so that helped stop it. I wouldnt mind it, for the first year of not getting my period i was FREAKING out it was because i was preggers lol nottt good..
I have had a copper IUD for about 2 years and I love it. It, however, makes my period heavier and I get bad cramps. But I won't have to worry about bc for the next 8 years (they are goo for 10 years). It was painful going in but that's not the case for every woman. :)
Have you thought about trying NuvaRing? You insert it for 3-4 weeks (21 - 28 days) and remove it for 7, which is when you will bleed. You can use it continually (instead of taking it out for 7 days, insert a new one) to avoid having a cycle. It's great for folks who can't remember to take a daily pill.
I used to piggy-back my traditional 28 day pill packs. I'd take rows 1, 2, 3, and instead of beginning my new pack I'd start another. I couldn't go more than 2 months without experiencing annoying breakthrough bleeding, but I figure only 6 cycles a year is still pretty awesome.
Also, Seasonale has a generic (Quasense or Jolessa), which is a money saver.
