And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
... actually I mentioned it in another thread but let us come out in the open, so to speak.
How many of our number actually think sexual liberation is a good thing?
I know I am a good citizen over all. I love my grand-kids. I'm good to my pets and kind to animals in general. People too. I pay my taxes. Vote. Contribute to charities. All the stuff good people are suppose to do.
I don't do drugs and I don't drink other than socially [and even that rarely]. I certainly believe children are our most precious commodity and should be protected from all things, including sex, that might be bad for them for any number of reasons.
However, I like sex. Sex with adult women. Very much. Like any good thing I think too much of it can be bad for me. Even too many vitamins can make one sick. However, in the proper moderation I think sex is a wonderful thing, and who I am fucking is not truly anyone's business, especially my governments. The only persons who should have any input into who I'm having sex with are the people in my life who it might impact directly. IF they are cool with it then that should be that. At least that is how I see it.
Zoning is fine, because I don't think folks who do things should be shoving it under the noses of those it might offend, but making consensual adult sexual things illegal... no way!
What side do folks fall on around here regarding consensual adult sexual activity?
Should prostitution be legalized?
Should government have any say in things like who should get married and who shouldn't?
Is it the right of our neighbors to put constrictions on how we, as adults, practice sexuality as long as it is consensual and no one is getting hurt?
Where do the blues, and what members of pink find their way into the basement to join us, fall on these subjects?

Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
I am in favor of decriminalization of prostitution only if it does not involve any sort of government regulation as is the case in the legal brothels in Nevada. To approach it any other way would be pointless.
Same sex marriage? I have no problem with it.

I am in favor or decriminalization of prostitution. It should NOT involve added government regulations. While I favor decriminalization, I also believe pimping and public solicitation should remain illegal.
From a civic/governmental standpoint I have no problem with same sex marriage. I have a huge problem with it when certain factions push for it in my national protestant church.

Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
Governments usurped the term "marriage" when they were reaching for a way to codify the matrimonial contract.
My take on it is based on the notion of separation between church and state. Therefore ALL state sanctioned contracts between two [or more] people of any gender should be referred to as a "Civil Union", and the religious sacrament called marriage should be returned to its religious roots. Thus becoming two related but totally different, and separate, things.

Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
I posted on a similar thread on the pink side when I was very new, and I thought I was almost deliberately misunderstood by some who were into their own agendas. The following is what I said (but truncated) about (somewhat) legal prostitution/escorting:
"These people refuse to see that the reason human trafficking exists within the sex industry is because sex for sale is ILLEGAL.
If major cities had a zoned area where escorts could go to bars and chat up interested patrons (with or without any strip show), and motels they could go to where the sex trade is condoned but any crime involving a victim will be reported to police -- think how different things would be.
At the bars, bouncers check everyone's ID to see they are of age and legally in the country. If a girl comes in with a pimp who uses threats to make her hustle, or a girl too young for the bar solicits on the street, the legit escorts can call the cops. Now they can come and make a real bust for a criminal act against a victim. As opposed to wasting huge taxpayer $$$ on stings that might yield a few arrests, fines & embarrasment but will never even make the slightest dent in "the oldest profession".
But, the people that the legislators need to appease to stay in power won't see an argument like this. Sex work == BAD. You stamp it out, or we vote in someone who will. More cops, that's what we need. "
So, back to my reply in real time. Golden Rule, I think you're about right re: that sexual commerce should be basically a zoning issue. I also agree (to a point) with what jannisary says, pimping shoud be illegal, but public soliciting should be allowed in areas where recipients expect it.

Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
All good points. All agreeable to me. But what does it matter? Who will lobby for any changes? (I can just see my wife's reaction should I start sending letters to my legislators asking them to legalize prostitution!) And given the current politics, nothing is likely to change. Only for the worse.
-
Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
Indeed. The votes aren't there for legislators to push any agenda that subverts "sex must be within marriage only" (unless maybe in SF ?). Too many voters want their religion voted into law. The best we can hope for is realistic mayors and police chiefs realizing: we only have so much resource to try to keep the city safe. We'll just offer token opposition to escorts and strippers who push the envelope, because stings are too expensive and fruitless. These voters don't go to SC's, so what they don't know won't hurt them.
PS. Anyone hear about the "Go Topless Day" celebrations? In Denver it was held in a bar downtown. After a while, a cop came in and wanted to inspect liquor licences, etc. Eventually a 2nd cop car was stopped in the street right in front of the patio, and seemed to succeed in making people uncomfortable and ready to leave. If I hear anything came of this I'll post it on a bigger forum.
But what I would most like to know: was this instigated by elected officials, or is it just "good christian" cops, or even just natural busybodies, with nothing better to do on a Sunday PM ?

This is obviously an older post according to the date, but none the less I'll respond.
I just ran into a county attorney from CO while working in SD who bought numerous dances from me. We spoke extensively about the CO laws & the adult entertainment industry. We are going to be staying in contact, & he said he'd help direct me on lobbying to change some laws. While I probably wouldn't be lobbying to legalize certain things many people here want, there are some of us who do actually work towards what we want rather than just sitting around & talking about it. +1 for motivated strippers -1 for strippers wanting stricter laws.... current score = 0 8)

Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
Although Im not a fan of prostitution and thats only because my ex cheated on me and hired one because at the time sex 4 days a week wasnt enough. I believe in free agency. My ex made a choice to do that and conciquences that followed is I dumped his ass. But when it comes down to it people are going to do it whether theres a law or not thats there choice but I dont agree with it.

Agree with this. I have no problem with prostitution being legal though I don't think the pimp/streetwalking type should be. Pimps are disgusting creeps and I want to see them prosecuted because most of them are criminals. However it's the opposite usually when talking about call girls. Most that I've known were law abiding citizens who didn't do drugs and caused trouble.
With gay marriage I support it but understand that churches may not. I feel civil same sex marriages should be legal but that religions shouldn't have to recognize a marriage if it goes against their views.

Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
I used to think legalized prostituition was a good thing... "legalize it and control it" that kinda thing. Now though I'm starting to question if that really works, its failed to a certain degree in Europe, can't see us doing it much better here, not widespread anyway.
-
Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
Definitely would like to see prostitution decriminalized. But if the regulation of it fell into the hands of the federal or state govt, I'm sure that they'd find a way to totally fuck it all up.
I am against the word "marriage" when applied to same-sex unions. I personally LOVE "separate but equal" when it comes to legal, registered unions between consenting adults. I don't know why so many gay folks have a problem with that. The word "marriage" has been pretty badly battered & abused by straight people, and I don't want anything to do with that "M" word. Actually, what my SO & I have right now is a domestic partnership here in Cali, and it affords us all of the legal protection that a gay "marriage" (shudder) would have allotted us at the state level.
Personally, I don't care about the religious connotations associated with marriage. Just give me the legal rights that straight people have, and call it anything other than a "marriage", and I'll be happy ;D.

Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
I support legalizing prostitution if there are some controls on it and they pay their taxes. I dislike a couple of aspects of it : crack whores, and the effect it can have on marriages.
I do not technically support homosexual marriage. Maybe it's just the name, but I do support loving same-sex couples with all the rights as a heterosexual couple, except the right to use the term, "marriage."
Another problem I have with it is increased chance that children raised in such a relationship may have an increased chance of becoming homosexual, rather than what they would naturally become on their own. But I don't think that is necessarily so, depending on the couple (eg a couple of man-hating lesbians, or woman-hating gays, as extreme examples). But I would be concerned that it would skew the normal distribution curve and in the long run may have some undefined deleterious effects. Just being cautious.

Hrm I'll take the bait.
I'm pro-legalizing and pro-removal of ALL laws surrounding prostitution, except those that criminalize underage prostitution and trafficking.
Kellydancer the problem with anti-pimp ("living off the avails") laws is that they also prohibit prostitutes from hiring security and phone people, two tasks that I rely on someone else to do for me. They also make paying my mortgage, taking care of my future family and even giving Christmas gifts illegal.
More importantly: anti-solicitation laws put women in danger. If a woman is an outdoor sex worker she deserves as much time as possible to make an informed decision, rather than just jumping into the car with him. I'd like to hear that solicitation was legal WHILE incentives were going on educate women about safety on the street (and potentially move them indoors).
Avery, I'm sorry your partner betrayed you and I'm glad to hear you stood up for your values. It sounds like escorting is not for you... but negative effects in your relationship have nothing to do with the profession and everything to do with your sexual partner in question.
Therelayer crackwhores happen in every situation, just in prostitution they are more open about it. There are also crack-strippers, crack-porn actresses, crack-McDonalds employees, crack-CEOs (I had one as a client), crack-everything-you-can-imagine.
Its ridiculous to say that prostitution encourages cheating in a marriage or relationship. The prostitute doesn't have an agreement with the cheating partner!

I think it's impossible to legitimately argue that legalizing prostitution would not, to a certain degree, "encourage" cheating.
That said... It still has little bearing on the issue at hand and is in some ways a very dumb argument.

Sadly true.
If we suddenly stopped sales of items that the mass public could possibly use in a negative way, all of our store shelves would be damn near empty.
I'm so sick & tired of "dumbing down" life to accommodate a society that has no apparent smarts or self control to do it themselves. What are we? 4 years old? I understand trying to protect the stupid from themselves, but jeezus this shit is getting ridiculous.
Yeah, I know - blame the Democrats. I've been a lifelong Democrat, but I'm thinking of switching to the Peace & Hippie Party (or whateva the hell it's called).
Peace, love, sex and ganja, man :trip:

Hmmm. I would have liked to have discussed this a bit last Thursday evening. But then we didn't have the results of the election -- in which we now face a much changed legislature. If one starts messing around with sex entertainment laws now, one is apt to get some not-so-funny surprises in return.

You may be interested in this. One of my best male friends growing up was gay (yes, that was the majority of them - haha), but he was raised by his aunts. One was his actual lesbian aunt, & the other was her partner. They HATED men, to the extreme. Under these conditions one would think my friend probably would have ended up straight because his aunts always talked down about the male gender. I'm not fully sure of the psychology of it or if it was just teenage revolt, but in terms of sexual relationships with women my male friend was totally disgusted with them. To this day he is gay... & still hateful to people who show signs of straight affection in front of him.

OMG you are brilliant;D Im sincere about that too!!! Especially about the gay marriage make it civil but dont force religion to recognize it I mean that violates the freedom of religion but also allow gays, well anyone for that matter, to make their own choice

There is zero empirical evidence to support this assertion.

You will notice that it is a concern, not an assertion. I don't think there is zero empirical evidence about anything, as there always is some uncertainty, especially in matters involving humans. Perhaps you could elucidate us on your assertion.
The crack whore refers to the streetwalker <and her pimp>. (yes, it's a stereotype, but it exists)

Oh - didn't you realize that since hetero families produce 90% hetero kidlings, that it must be the same ratio for homo families?
Just do the math, man! ;D

Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
A Google search will probably find this, but there are some recent findings that male homosexuality is related to male antibodies in the mother after giving birth to each boy, increasing with each male child pregnancy. This apparently increases the likelihood of homosexuality among subsequent male children. Not necessarily the only factor, and only some probability increase, but it sort of makes sense biologically. I've not read yet if the research has been replicated or otherwise confirmed. This also seems to explain what lots of gay men say, that they don't think they really had a choice.

Gay women either.
You have to admit - who in their right mind would choose to be gay when the world is filled with ignorant, bigoted homophobes that try to make gay people's lives a living hell & treat them as second class citizens? What minority of ANY kind (sexuality, race, disability, etc), if given the opportunity to be reborn, would choose their life to be the same rather than joining what the majority of society deems is "preferred" or "normal"?
-
Re: And while we are on the subject of sexual advocacy...
Prostitution - I have no problem with prostitution. Legalize it. Having said that, it is the govts responsibly to protect the public. There would need to be rules and regulations, including condoms, protection, and required STD tests.
Homosexuality - I have no problem with homosexuality, especially two hot lesbians. }:D Seriously, I have no problem with homosexuality, guys or girls.
Monogamy - I'm a believer in monogamy. I've done the other things, and it just isn't for me. I realize that many people aren't. One night stands, multiple partners, 3somes, whatever. If they work for you, that's fine.
I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon and support this with yard signs or anything like that. Personally, I think it is a bad idea to legislate morality.
