Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
When your response to "What's that mean?" is "I'm not going to talk about tattoos."
When your response to "What's your real name?" is "I'm not going to tell you that."
When your response to "Can I buy you a drink?" is "I could use a shot of Jameson."
When you haven't been able to make yourself work more than 2 or 3 nights a week for over a month.
When thinking your hair or makeup might be a bit messy is a legitimate reason to visit the dressing room.
Damn, is everyone on this site burned out?

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
Loving this thread!! My signs are usually:
When a book to read is an essential item to take to work... maybe 2 in case you finish the first one.
When a customer tells you how much he wants to do this and that to you and all you can do is scream "eeeewwww!" in his face before walking off.
When winning a game of cards with the bar staff is more important than hustling the guy that just walked in.
When you'd rather practice a new pole move on stage or climb up the top and just sit there than hustle.
When you find every time you talk to someone about stripping you start off with "don't get me wrong, I love my job but..." then rant for 30 minutes about everything that annoys you.
When you only try and hustle customers who walk past where you're sitting because you can't be arsed getting up.

i been thinking the same? are all sales jobs naturally draining or just the ones where you market your body?
/threadjack.
when the only reason you turned up to work is coz you bought a new costume and you wanna make back the price.
when you need to buy new costumes every week to feel motivated to go in.
when i go into incredibly time consuming processes to touch up my curls even though they were fine to begin with.
painting my nails and standing under the hand dryer with them coz the air con is set to eskimo again
me last night: [to my most hated question'where you from'] im from kenya. but my dad is eskimo thats why im white. when i want summer i go to kenya, when i want to skii i go to antarctica. and i spent the rest of the stage convincing them i was kenyan because it was a dead boring set at 3am

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
When you start lowering your standards of a good night moneywise, i.e. you always set a goal of making about a grand on friday/saturday, but when you just can't be bothered dealing with the asshole crowd and start thinking "Hey, $500 for a friday isn't actually THAT bad..?"
That happened to me last night. It was a terrible night full of wankers and non spenders. I was just exhausted from talking to gazillion guys and getting shit from every single one of them. It picked up later but I had already given up and wasn't anywhere near being in the zone.
Now I'm going to spend my day watching Dancerwealth videos to get in the zone for tonight and make some $$$$!
Also, I don't know if it's a sign of a burn out of just a part of the job, but I have strip club dreams ALL THE TIME. Customer scenarios, dramas with the girls (in the club we get along perfectly) and all kinds of weird stuff.

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
^ Omg I have crazy strip club dreams too! I'll be grabbing bitches by the hair and kicking guys in the balls..things I wish I could do when someone's giving me grief at work. I wake up feeling all refreshed and think "Damn, I'm crazy" :)
I know when I'm burnt out because I start hurting people! Normally when guys try to touch me I'll just move out of the way...but when I'm at the end of my rope I'll start lashing out. I carry a little metal 'treasure chest' purse around with me and I'll hold it in the hand of my arm that's draped over the guy's shoulder I'm sitting with. If he decides to be a douche and cop a feel I'll "accidentally" slam it into the side of his head as I'm walking off. Oops! }:D
Annnnnd it is no surprise I've taken a week off..

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
When you just stop dancing and sit on stage
Coming up with any and every excuse not to go to work, like it's raining or it's a full moon, or there's a concert tonight...
When you break down crying

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
Re: anouk.oui's opining over whether stripping sucks the energy out of you more than other sales job...
I'd have to say a resounding heck yes! I worked in sales jobs throughout the first 3 years of college and there were days that work sucked or the customers were shitty but there is a special kind of shittiness that sets in when you are selling 'yourself' as a product. With dancing, you know that your attitude will wear and show in your face, posture, attitude, etc and that it is DIRECTLY linked to your sales earnings or lack thereof. Even being 'kinda off your game' can result in a catastrophic night.
I worked one particular sales-commission job where, even if I was in the worst mood, I could still 'potentially' make commission by selling the commission-based items simply by reciting the routine sales pitch. It would work or not, but no big deal because
a) I did get base-pay so I could count on a certain minimum amount every two weeks, guaranteed,
b) related to point a; I wasn't given daily cash bonuses for making the commission anyways, so there was no added incentive built-in
c) if customers weren;t interested, I didn't necessarily disagree with them or want to push the sale THAT bad, because I knew most of the add-ons were not worth their price..yet I knew the product itself was a highly sought after item, so selling the product alone made me just as happy, because I never felt that great when I DID get someone to buy all three add-ons because I felt like I was taking advantage of their willingness to buy unnecessary items.
I'm sure we dancers see how this directly contradicts the modus operandi of selling 'our' dances..and why we feel the strain so much more to 'produce' notwithstanding whether we are ON and in the groove or having a significantly shitty period of famine.
b) I

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
when you would rather sit at home because you're afraid you won't make any money at work knowing full well that you're not going to make any money sitting at home either, but it's less irritating to make no money at home than make no money at work.
-
Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
oh and one more
when you would rather scream at the top of your lungs than answer a customer's question that you've heard five thousand times even when he's spending money on you.
-
Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
When the first half of the night is spent telling each of the other girls that you're just not quite in the mood yet and you'll start working after another drink/once all the other girls are busy/when more your 'type' of customer comes in, and then the second half of the night is the same except telling eveyone that you don't feel like it tonight and will make it up the next day.

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
its when the room is full of drunk potential spenders but youd rather go home coz you cant be bothered talking to each and every one of them and they might pay for you, or might irritate the shit out of you, bother you, tire you, annoy you then leave.
why cant they just wear a sign around their necks that says 'timewaster' or 'high roller'?
-
Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
when all it takes to ruin your night is ONE obnoxious customer.

LOL I'm going to make those signs. I'll stand by the door and ask every single customer who walks in "how much money do you have in your pocket? ok here, wear this have a nice time"
except sometimes a guy with a lot of money pretends to be a time waster so I'll make the signs say "$$$$$$$$" if he has enough for a few lap dances and " :( " if he's broke.

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
thats what im afraid of. all the douchebags will opt for the money ones to give us false hopes and dance circles around them
-
Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
when you see how many ways you can use your heels as weapons when customers get annoying!
-
Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
Idk there are a few super hustlers at my club who WILL get any and all money from a guy even if he's determined not to spend it lol. I wish I knew how to do that it's amazing how convincing and agressive these girls can be. They get his money no matter what and on the rare occasion that they can't one girl in particular will make the guy feel like such a piece of shit that he'll actually leave

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
When you go up to a guy and you dont even bother to hussle him by sitting down and saying "Im not going to ask you for a dance" This actually happened to me, I was having a horriable week, but I went to work, saw a guy, sat down said that, we talked awhile. After that he suprisingly went "lets go into the VIP" that made my night, when I saw 4 girls that tried him.. Its weird but those situations just make have more hope not all guys are assholes.
When you;re hussling a guy and he gives you hope then at the end all those excuses not to go into the VIP. I had a guy "Oh, your too young, Im married and i respect my wife, Im also a strong christain, and I am against sexual contact" He gave me all the BS, it was the same week, I burned out and yelled at him "I dont give a flying fuck what you believe in, pay me or fuck off" He got shocked cause I was calm and then just stood up and freaked and walked away. He then went off with a 100% dirty girl, nice one douchebag.

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
when you work at a club with no booze yet you stillmanage to get drunk at work.
-
Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
When you welcome the drama between dancers or dancers/custies, because it gives you something to take your mind off of work, and you can spend an hour gossiping about it later to everyone because you really dont feel like working
when the idea of staying home making $0 instead of possibly a couple hundred at work sounds a lot more appealing than going in

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
When "accidentally" kicking over drinks on customers who aren't tipping at your stage is your favorite new hobby.
-
Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
I learned to do that at Hooters befofe I started stripping!

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
When...
you'd rather get a pap smear with a rake than go to work at the club.
you'd rather play video games than deal with customers.
you'd rather scoop poop in your yard than be at work.

Re: You know you have stripper burn out when...
when you walk away from a customer who's mid-sentence because you just have that feeling that he won't spend money on you
then when you see that same customer who you walked away from go into the lap dance room with another dancer you just shrug and think "oh well he was boring as hell anyway"
when instead of setting money goals for the night you set goals for the shortest time you can spend hustling a customer.
when you're with a customer and you're smiling at him because you're thinking about what a loser he is
when you spend the majority of your lap dances facing away from the customer so you can zone out for a few minutes.
