The pros and cons of dancing. . .
So I've really been thinking about starting but everyone I've talked to in the sc hates it. I really don't need to because my boyfriend takes care of the bills. But it might be nice to have extra money. What are the good and bad things about the profession? And is there anything I should know about just starting out?
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
It beats working for a living. I know everyone has a different perspective - mine is that it causes you to learn to hate and distrust men.
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
Good:
The money (usually)
Freedom of a schedule. (usually)
Feeling confident and empowered (sometimes)
Being able to drink at work (was good for me)
Being able to listen to music at work (unless the music sucks ass)
It's a good workout.
Bad:
Sometimes you can leave OWING money or paying out of your own pocket to be there.
There's assholes that can make you feel like shit.
It sometimes can give you a negative image of yourself.
Drugs and alcohol abuse
Sometimes the competition is fierce. (Not just in looks, but as in girls giving hand jobs for $20).
Stripping isn't for everyone.
If you have a strong head on your shoulders, you can do okay.
Just don't get sucked into the negative aspects.
Go in, have a good time, talk to guys, be strong and make some money. :)
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
There are tons of Pro's and Con's - Avery listed them out well. But heres my 2 cents on your situation:
If I knew all my monthly bills would be looked after, and I was stripping just for spending money, I think I would love it. Just go in once or twice a week and make $800 bucks to blow on whatever....yeahhhh...that would be amazing.
As it stands, stripping is my only income, so by the time I've made enough to cover my monthly living expenses, I can't take anymore.
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
I'd dance personally because the worst thing about stripping is going in when you REALLY need the money the money and having a BAD NIGHT or a few in a row. Since you don't *need need need * the money, you are in a good spot.
You won't make good money every night. Those nights suck. Some nights you will make a good amount fast. Those nights are great.
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
one con i am having is being sore..i just started so i hope i get used to it..but my damn legs are sore everyday and my knees hurt like a bitch.. I have lost some weight and toned up tho..But yes the guys are assholes sometimes and you do think that most men are like that....
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
like 4everresolutions said, if I were stripping for spending cash I would LOOOOOOOOOOVE it!! my boyfriend pays our rent but I have to pay for half the utilities, my car insurance (200/mo), cell phone bill(100/mo), groceries(500/mo), and gas(300/mo). it sucks because my club is such a crap club and I only really make money on fridays and saturdays but even then I don't make more than 250 usually.
if you rely on dancing as your sole income it really blows unless you work at a great club and you're a super hustler

Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
I've worked for 7 years and there are more pros than cons to me now. For the past two years my (now) boyfriend has paid all the bills so I only go in 2x a month, sometimes only once (just for extra money to blow). When I go in I have a blast, make good money and peace. But when it was my main source of income there were many more cons than pros. Since your only doing in "for fun" I think the only thing you have to watch out for is alcohol/drug abuse. I've most def had my days of partying and it takes a toll on you mentally/physically. I'd say (in Vegas) in my total opinion about 80% (if not more) of people in the club are fucked up in some way so it's easy to get into that lifestyle. But I think you should try it and you'll find the pros and cons for yourself right away. Good Luck girlie :)
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
Pros:
better and healthier body from all the dancing
financial independence
freedom with scheduling
improved confidence and self-esteem
improved money management
Cons:
DRAMA (from co-workers, and possibly from judgmental friends and/or family)
no health insurance
inability to settle for a normal job afterwards
you'll always compare normal earnings to what you made dancing, and it will ALWAYS fall short.
gap in employment history; you either have to own that you were a dancer, or find a wicked good cover story
you might end up blowing more money on meaningless shit, just cause you can.
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
Honestly, it might not be for you, simply judging by your other thread.
If you felt so utterly disgusted by sharing a razor with your boyfriend, then you might have problems with random dirty men touching you.
I'm not trying to be a bitch, but many people start dancing with a romanticized idea of it in their heads.
It really can be sweet.... I am totally spoiled by the money now, it's going to be hard transitioning to a regular job eventually. But, if you are the type to be bothered by germs or people touching you, then it might not be worth it.
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
Most of the girls mentioned the reality of it.
Pros;
money,
made me more individual,
helped my social and presentation skills,
made me more confident,
more self-esteem
can work whenever
can act however you like
can work at any SC, and move anywhere
Cons
I started thinking all men were the same
made me more cocky in a way
went cold on all men
hard to look at other jobs knowing how much you make in SC
drama (whether its with staff or customers)
can lower your self-esteem at times
money isnt always as great as you think, some nights you leave with 0
dating is harder, and telling ppl what you do goes in the wrong path
drugs abuse
working with dirty girls
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
One thing I didn't mention was the drug and alcohol abuse. Although I personally haven't encountered any problems with these, I have observed many other dancers letting drugs and alcohol become a nasty habit. A lot of women can't strip without being at least tipsy, and it's very toxic to use any substance as a crutch. If you can't do the job sober, DON'T DO IT. I found that it's very easy to be a stripper without buying into the whole party lifestyle, but I know other girls have problems with it. Stripping shouldn't be a solution to all the problems in your life. It shouldn't be your last resort or your get-rich-quick scheme. Yes, you can make money. But you can also blow said money awful quick.
I advise everyone not to start stripping unless they are currently in a happy and healthy situation. It won't solve anything. It's just a job. So don't think that this will be your miracle cure.

If that aient the truth...lmao!!!
Yep if you can pull off a day a week for extra money and arent afraid to actually WORK.. not sit around... you'll probably love it...
But its def not for everybody and if you decide to work full time...well the list of negatives can get quite long and is different for everybody.
Re: The pros and cons of dancing. . .
Stripping for extra money > stripping for money you need.
The reality of stripping is nothing like most people come into the business thinking. It's sort of one of those things you don't know if you'll like until you try it.
pros:
you can make good money
you typically have a pretty open schedule
a lot of girls enjoy dancing
can possibly help keep you in shape (depending on current fitness level)
you can meet some pretty cool girls in your area
cons:
drunk, rude, cheap, disrespectful, kissy, or grabby men
trashy coworkers/having to hear regular stories from them that are completely disgusting
exposure to drug and alchohol abuse
no guaranteed money/sometimes leaving in the negative (it also costs money to buy shoes/costumes to start and there is no guarantee you'll earn that back if you decide this isn't for you)
risk of men doing disgusting things to you like cumming in their pants with no warning and letting it soak through their sweatpants and get all over you. Or pulling their dick out while your back is turned and trying to rub that on you. Or trying to lick you. >>;
